My Beijing Hotel Room

BBC World is available in my hotel (Beijing Friendship Hotel)at the moment. I think it was part of the agreement that such channels would not be restricted during the Olympic Games. Whether this will continue afterwards I don't know.

My window in the Beijing Friendship Hotel has a pleasant view of tall trees and a few low-rise hotel annexes.

This hotel is very unusual for Beijing. It has a large central area with lots of greenery and shuts out the manic traffic beyond. It was built in the 1950's but has been refurbished to acceptable standards. It consists of several separate buildings each of 4 or 5 storeys, linked by underground corridors.

how much did the room cost?

Don't know - it was paid for by my work. But anyway it's probably not relevant because all hotel prices were sky-high during the Olympics.
