And it's not just the richness of her voice, but also her masterful control over it. In songs like "Merry Christmas Darling", she does such a wonderful job of singing softly or more loudly, giving just the right inflection to the verses.
For Christmas, a bunch of Carpenters fans around the world are gathering thank-you notes for Evelyn Wallace for all her years of service as Carpenters secretary and friend to Karen. Last day to write in is the 23rd! tinyurlDOTcom/thanksev
One of my Karen Carpenter's Christmas song favorite. Tsk tsk the lady had a really wonderful voice and her music were always emanating from the heart :( I miss her....
Karen as a person touches me even deeper than as a singer. Being immensely talented and gifted she never cared much about clothes nor looks, she always focused on her singing and her artistry. Her good friend Olivia Newton-John also shows that modesty which only makes them more admirable and beloved. Miss you Karen....
The way that Karen sings this song can be compared with Nat King Coles interpretation. The way she reads the song is so pure and so soficticated , you cannot really believe THAT voice comes out of her. She never realised what talent she had.
i would give the rest of my time up on this planet to have spent a few moments with this beautiful soul. it would have been a good trade happy holidays and peace to all
She was sent from God and now she sings in Heaven. Thanks Karen for the magic and memories you have given many... Always in our hearts when we hear you sing..
Ever since I heard this Christmas album from them when I was only 7 years old, and now that I am 40 years old I never fail to play this CD starting December 1st until the 25th. It's in my blood already. This and the Ray Connif CD absolutely superb that will put you in the mood for the holidays. Thank you oh so much. Now I can introduce these to my son so he can continue playing em when I'm gone!!
Thank you so much for this video... This is the first time I have ever seen it, and for 40 years, it isn't Christmas at our house until Karen sings, "It's that time of year..." I am so thankful for the Carpenters' two Christmas albums - my favorites!
It is the cold of the Siberian winter that makes me think of her, my childhood sweet heart, it makes me happy but at the same time the Siberian cold makes me lonely ever since she left me for an another man many years ago. Alone, I am but memories of my first love always keeps me warm for she will always have a place in my heart even though I may marry an another woman and raise a family with her. But as they always say, 1st love never dies.
It's sad to see her pull that pillow over her hips when she sits on the couch. Such a beautiful and gifted woman, and yet she was self conscious about that.
@NedNickerson2010 you are absolutely right but lets not forget and other artists like karen who started singing at their 20s and their voice was powerful one example Celine dion her christmas album is now a classic and of course whitney houston and others..not everyone today is like lady gaga thank god for that
@NedNickerson2010 From my childhood...I can think of Brandy and Mariah Carey. This was in the nineties and they were in their teens/just at the cusp of full maturity. This new generation, I have no idea. --_--
It's so nice to see this clip again. Thanks for posting, Ned, and Merry Christmas! Why, oh why, won't Richard release these specials on DVD? They are pure gold.
@OceanKingNY I think Richard felt there was too much embarassing schtick in all their tv specials, except for "Music, Music, Music." I still think he could glean the songs and a few of the skits and end up with a pretty respectable DVD. There's also their appearances on Perry Como's Christmas specials that he could include, also.
@NedNickerson2010 Yes, I know how Richard feels, but it's time he got over it. These Carpenters specials are no sillier than any of the other variety shows produced in the 70s, and most of those other shows have been released on DVD already. Or, as you say, he could produce a "best of" DVD with only the musical numbers included from these specials, the Perry Como Christmas special, Richard's "Home for the Holidays" from "Solid Gold," and whatever other extras Richard might have in the vault.
Merry Christmas to all, thank you for the most beautiful versions of the traditional Christmas songs Karen, a fabulous talent, a gorgeous voice, and a special Christmas angel.
Thank you Ned Nickerson....The Carpenters were such a good part of my teenage years..and part of my loneliness and sadness..but, the songs were always inspirational to me....I actually met Karen and Richard at Hamburger Hamlet a few months before she passed away...and when I ran into them coming out of the restaurant...I just smiled but, I had just seen them inside having lunch...I sang their songs and my voice is very much like hers my friends joke about it
Listening to Christmas music and Karen Carpenter's voice still makes me cry. She was simply one of the best.

My Gran used to say that God only lends Angels for a moment to this
Earth and that Angels are so homesick for Heaven that they leave
in young " earth years". God took Karen Home in the right time, she was
homesick.
