Just one person's opinion here, but I think super-dark hair threaded with silver has subliminal/metaphorical weight; it telegraphs that the bearer is a grown-up and not to be messed with. Think how they show power and position in comic-books - they give the character a streak of gray.
I'm still of the opinion that Mr. F in person is so alpha (no offense to his looks) that it makes his actual appearance less, idk, salient? ymmv.
