@SimoMcGauneo The Akron/Macon twins could scout an area the size of California in 24 hours. They could travel 8,200 miles at flank speed (87 mph) carrying 92 tons of weight + ship weight of ~100 tons. planes in that era could travel 500 miles tops (that means 250 miles was a point of no return to wherever you were flying if you happed to come from an aircraft carrier). The design of the tail was changed to placate idiot politicians that wanted rear fin to be able to see the control car up front.
There is footage of the crash. The lower tail fin bent like a piece of paper then returned to it's shown shape. The fins were bolted onto the frame instead of being connected internally with the other fins like the German zeppelins were made. This was a tragic flaw of both the Akron and Macon which were brought down due to tail fin damage in high winds.
@19Somebody85 They did, I have a copy of the whole un-censorred video..it's called "military censorship" they din't want the public to know how delicate the sky Leviathians truly were..lol!
Well, of the zeppelins that survived their operating days intact, all were scrapped for salvageable aluminum (needed for aeroplanes during the wartime). Furthermore, for an airship as large as an ocean liner, you need a shed into which an ocean liner would fit :P
BTW, there IS a piece of Graf Zeppelin's nosecone left in the Zeppelin Museum friedrichshafen. There's also a replica of the Hindenburg's promenade deck with a little piece of the hull also built inside the hangar...
thats sad that those airships designed to follow the wind, and that because the ballon was round the wind gave more pressure on the side so the ballon broke apart. lmao.
There were rumors the ship didn't come up to gov't specifications so a congressman wants to take a ride on it??

too bad none of these huge ships were saved for museums. I'd love to see an airship as large as an ocean liner.

@Trainfanatic192 Faketeencat2 is probably referring to the body of the airship.
