Why can't people just enjoy this excellent performance without the tired Bieber/Gaga insults. Nothing beats the music of the 60's & 70's in my mind but times change, like it or not. I dont like rap either but heavy metal & big hair bands are a bunch of satanic garbage too. Carole deserves much better than these negative posts...including this one I just wrote!
I recently bought the remastered version of Tapestry. It includes one CD of Tapestry and another CD of live versions of the Tapestry songs done with just Carole King and her piano. I love hearing her piano.
Its a real treat to hear her play the song on the piano, her performance on the piano is orders of magnitude more funky than any one else whos played the song. Since the song is her own, she really plays it from the heart. Thanks Carol!!
Wow, working the chords out for a new band I realize it's actually written in a MINOR key (Cm)!. And actually, when it moves to the relative major (E flat) in the bridge, it sort of softens, rather than brightens: rather the opposite of what you would expect....!
Amazing to create such a positive, optimistic, driving song in a minor key. She is a very talented songwriter!!
@xtenkfarpl well, in the interest of accuracy--and though i am a musician and songwriter, i am not an expert on music theory, just know what i hear--it's not a pure minor. it's a more fleshed out, complex chord than that, and i believe it's what is sometimes called "the hendrix chord", a sort of indeterminate chord used a lot in jazz/funk/blues, which implies both major brightness and minor darkness at once. if she were hammering away in straight-up Cm, it WOULD sound less upbeat/empowering.
@wash2007 It's a c minor 7 chord to open without the third (eb) so it has a sense of moving somewhere even though c minor is the home key. She does a lot of altering of the bass, usually a step higher, in the major seven chords and four steps higher for minor 7 chords to give that jazz feel once she gets to the "Ooh baby...." Too many theory classes here, but that's another story....
You say Jonas Brothers, I say The Rolling Stones
You say Justin Bieber, i say Queen
You say Taylor Swift, i say Guns & Roses
95% of teens these days listen to the same crappy pop songs over and over. if your one of the 5% left who still listen to real music, thunb this up, then copy and paste it to least 5 video's. DONT LET THE SPIRIT OF ROCK&ROLL DIE
I dedicate this tune to BRUCE (mav3r1ck69) and his wife and 2 kids and ALL the rest of the people of New Zealand affected by the recent 6.3Earthquake! I will light a candle! ~ Yara
What's amazing is, because she wrote these songs, they are hers, and she is such a great musician, she can do them live in a way that celebrates and transforms the difference from the studio version. I'm in love.
She is just so great! Best American female songwriter. And still kicking strongly in 2010! Go to nbc.com to see the Toyota Concert Series appearance by King and James Taylor!
