Based on the commentary from Vince I'm guessing this guy thought he was going to be a star one day and Vince put him in there just to show him he wasn't going anywhere in this business. Even Barry O had more stage presence than Paul Fisher.
On the cartoons they made him look like he is jacked up on steroids but he was far from that. Which would be nice too see wrestlers with out the steroids,
Fisher is, by far, one of the sexiest jobbers the WWF had during this time. He may not have been one of the best athletes, but he did what any jobber should...take the ass-kicking like a man. Love how Sgt humiliates him like a school boy in his underoos.
This is an awesome video! These were my favorite kind of jobbers...the sexy ones who never really were trained properly. Sgt Slaughter is a bad ass and he wipes the floor clean with this redneck. F***ing awesome all around!
@steve0040 Yeah I remember. They started doing that in 1972 with The Spoiler (Don Jardine), and they used a variation of that with Freddie Blassie in 1973 when he would bite his opponents' foreheads open. Also with Baron Von Raschke in 1976 with the red X. It was done for psychological reasons: Vince McMahon Sr. thought if they censored the action then the fans would be more curious to see these guys do those moves at the house shows.
@steve0040 They started using that 'X' back in 1972 with the Spoiler. He was wrestling Tomas Marin and he put the claw on him. A second or two later this big 'X' appeared on the screen, but you could see at the bottom of the 'X' where Marin was lying on the mat that he had blood running down his chest. After that, every time the Spoiler used his claw you would see the 'X' whether there was blood or not. They also used it when Baron Von Raschke used his claw in the WWWF back in 1976.
@TheMidnightEDxpress Here's a list of forgotten jobbers. See how many you remember: Juan Caruso, Lee Wong, Mark Tendler, Tom Reisman, Tomas Marin, Vicente Pometti, Pancho Valdez, Luis Torres, "Spaceman" Frank Hickey, Chuck "Popeye" Richards (Chris Candido's grandfather), Tank Patton, Hans Schroeder, Big Jim Lancaster, Mike Pappas, Ricky Sexton. That ought to do for starters. Ah, nostalgia. All these guys worked for WWWF/WWF during the '70s, and all were jobbers.
It's nice to hear these original broadcasts with The Fink doing ad work during the introductions. This Fisher guy looked like it was his first time and he had little idea of what he was doing, or read the script.
It's kind of interesting how some wrestlers, namely the jobbers, didn't condition or put enough hours in the gym to prepare themselves for these wrestling matches. Now they do, but Paul Fisher is embarrassing to watch when competing against a proven wrestler in Sgt. Slaughter. Just took the punishment, got into submission and lost the mach.
That's THE Paul Fisher, rhythm guitarist from RAT'SNEST. They played the venue the night before, met the Grand Wizard there, and YES, the original jobber was sick with fever and Paul volunteered to stand-in for $350 and a bucket of chicken.
Truth IS stranger than fiction! Yes, RAT'SNEST played with my band in NYC once @Zappa's. Needless to say, Paul Fisher was a better guitarist than he was a wrestler. Don't worry, Paul got a prescription for vikes the next day for the sprained neck, two loose teeth, and a rupture.
Very funny match, the ref was more intimidating then Paul was. lol Also, thanks for the show every week, I have heard many Wrestling shows. They all fail in comparison to the Don tony&Kevin Castle show.

The Wizard was one of the best managers of all time.
He owned some grocery stores in the Boston area if I'm not mistaken so he was quite a businessman outside the squared circle too

Steve, of course I remember it, McMahon screaming "Oh god, this is disgusting! someone stop this already!"
Great memories from my childhood!

Fisher looks pitiful. And they listed him as 220 lbs, he looks no more than 180 tops.

That had to be Fisher's only match...they must have run out of jobbers at that taping and pulled him out of the crowd. He botched every move.
