Bless you for sharing a child's wonder awe and sensitivity of other living creatures rather than teaching them to hunt - which is all too common on here - very refreshing video 5/5
@blushing sun123 actually they are more closely related to a rodent than anything. a lot of people think they are pigs, but they're not. I live in Arizona and we have a lot of Javelinas here.
@hunter69denys no, the javelina are NOT rodents or even in the rodent family, they are from the Tayassuidae family. They are the Collared Peccaries, Who are found in about 34% of the state of Arizona, and are also found in Texas and New Mexico, but originate from South America. Their nicknames are: "skunk pigs" "Must Hogs," The Tayassuidae family is also known as the New World Pigs.
@TrustorBust716 Thank you. I'm an aussie and I have a friend from ABQ New mexico and he used to hunt javelina and He showed me some photo's and videos of them and I always thought they were a pig but he insisted they were not. but he couldn't tell me what they were. You however seem to be very savvy so thank you for ironing that out.
theres always packs of these at the university where i live.. sometimes my friends are scared to go to the parking lot because theyre always just moping around. if theres one thing i know is mind your own and they wont mind you as long as you dont get too close
I had a moose calf, hangin out in my back yard one winter (bad winter),.... came up on porch beggin for food, every eve, we fed it what we could, it finally died of starvation? fell next to my truck...poor guy
i have had three show up out side my apartment in scottsdale, they love potatoes, bread, bananas, anything I think. they eat, carb out and pass out from sugar I guess. they sleep with their nose in the dirt blow a big dust cloud up with every exhale, can you imagine how much dust they inhale? they are very funny to watch, hope they keep showing up
Last night,Christmas Eve,I just happened to look out front of our house.Imagine my awe when I thought I saw 2 dark dogs in the middle of the road & realized they had snouts & were Javelinas! It was 2 in the morning,my camera could'ntncapture their beauty(yes, I said beauty)So I woke my hubby as proof they were there. Then there were 4 adults,2 babies! No room at the INN I guess...We're in the burbs 43rd ave & 101 in PHX.I pray noone hurts them. They eat plants & mean no harm to humans or animals!
Sooo is a javelina a pig or not? Wikipedia says no but I'm getting allot of mixed reports. All I know is I wouldn't pick a fight with one.

Very nice video. Lovely pigs. Do they eat cactus? They smelled you, but they didn't feel threatened.
