I'm assuming they are living in New York, which is very expensive. But I find it completely ridiculous to pay over 1300 dollars in rent for one room in some other persons apartment. More than likely it would be more expensive for her and her boyfriend to rent a place of their own. They might even struggle financially if they did so. But I'd rather struggle in my own place then live in an apartment with strangers.

@tutango16 Europeans do not buy clothes for cheap. They usually do not have many things because they pay a lot of money for a few particular things. When I was stationed in Germany, the Germans would not buy a lot of things that are cheap because they believe the quality is not as good. So, they save up and will pay $500 for one pair of jeans. The judge told her that the correct word to use is "lend". then later on, when the the correct word would have been "borrow", the plaintiff decided to go with "lend" to keep the judge happy. hee hee. non native speakers of English are so cute!
