I just made my first own wand today from olive tree branches that we cut in the garden. I just love olive tree. It makes me feel home and warm and peacefuly empowered.

It's not long that I have been called to the path (it happened so spontaneously and I found out I have always been surrounded by the crafts tools, only I was not aware of it up to now).

Hello ridgerunninstumpjump into answering your question about finding a piece of oak to make your next wand be open and allow the limb to find you. By this I mean when you find a piece(s) of oak limb...pick it up and close your eyes and see what you can feel with your energies by running your hands up and down slowly on the limb. If you feel nothing then put it down and pick up the next piece and so on. When you find the right one it will become warm or hot in your hands. Blessings to you!

i decided to start following the pagan path almost a month ago. i have been studying it on and off for years, but recently i just had a calling towards it. after reading as much as i could find i went out and found my first branch for a wand. it was a downed branch of a big hickory that i found in a remote part of the woods. even though it was downed i asked permission, and gave the tree gifts. the full moon is in 6 days and i plan to find a good oak b4 then for my smaller wand. any advice?

Hello Yuriwolf47! You can set up your altar up and lay out whatever tools that feels comfortable to you. However an athame is used in casting circles and a wand is used to direct energies.

When I first started out I had both tools sitting on my altar, but as I progressed and grew (I now practice Dragon Magick) I now use a sword in replacement of the athame.

To burn pictures into a wand you have to buy a wood burning tool that you can sometimes purchase on eBay or at a local hobby/craft store.
