You're certainly 1 of the best steve... I'm so glad I had the opportunity to play with you at rutgers campus... n your son pete has always been a good friend of mine
Truly loved and admired the guy, all smiles and graces, and so obliging - helped me buy a terrific cue for less once, which I still own and which still reminds me of him each time I unpack it. I hope they've got pool tables up there, Steve!
from rey da guy who used to spread the cash around evry time u won and of course gave me a tip and also thanks for being a great homeroom teacher at mcguinness school in perth amboy god bless and i never forgot.
Steve was a grade ahead of me at St. Ambrose College in Davenport. He was ALWAYS at the pool halls which pretty much screwed up his grades. I think he eventually got a BA in education somewhere else. Nice guy, but seriously good at pool.
My husband and I had the honor of having him at our wedding December of 97. What a gentleman. he's a friend of my husband's family. We were shocked when he passed away. He will be missed
I'm very envious! Wish i could say I got the chance to meet "The Miz", or better yet, play him. He stopped playing the Sands tourny in Reno before I started going up there. But I got to know Buddy Hall and have some very fond memories of him.
I had the honor to play Steve a few years back in Melbourne, Fl. It was a hell of a match that I will never forget. Thanks for the memories Miz, I will never forget you or that match. Miz-7 Alien-5. Nice comeback Steve.
Steve was a great player from the "hay-day" of pool! Him, Buddy Hall, Nick Varner, ... RIP, Steve... you were a pool icon! I still enjoy watching your videos from The Sands Tourny's in Reno... -CR
The last part of the vid I remember from when I was a kid and the lite beer commercials would come on during the baseball games. We went around school saying, "even when you're just showing off!" Awesome!
It's always a treasure to look back and enjoy the memories of a true legend :), thank you BCN for such a great video and this is a tribute that shows Steve's good and happy nature, that everyone liked so much about him :)
RIP Steve and thank you Billiard Club Network :) Willie
I talked to Steve a number of times through the years and he had to audition to get that beer commercial gig. The director felt he was the only pool player that auditioned that could walk, talk and shoot at the same time.
im sure he made the tables unlevel when he leaned on them w/ his massive weight.....balls prob just a rollin around lol

I also understand he had to do about 40 takes to get the trick to happen for the camera.

More like 191 takes, if I recall correctly.
