I can see both sides of the coins here on the ATV thing. I mean its nice and all to enjoy the trails and for tourist to see this county to see its beauty. But you just know there are some "Idiots" that dont know how to drive those things or respect the "Land" or "Mountain Trails"... And in those cases I too would hope those idiots find a clothesline after its to late. Show some respect people.

The town of Matewan is very ATV friendly. We were riding the Hatfield McCoy trail system and stopped in Matewan for lunch and fuel.

It's changed quite a bit in the 10 years since I've been there. (I grew up on Beech Creek, nearby.) I have to ask... how did you get by riding 4-wheelers on the road?? lol

SinceSince the trail system opened, they've relaxed regulations, allowing ATVs to travel short distances on the road where the trails cross it.. in practice this has led to pretty much blanket riding the roads by all ATVS, protective gear or none, whenever. And with things so rural, there's no one to see it a lot of the time.

in small towns like this they dont care most of the time , around here you can go riding down the main street and up the highway and alot of places without getting in trouble ,you just can goof around in the middle of the road though

Really, because I have lived in Matewan for 20 years and I don't know of anyone dying on the street. They haven't. We have had people die on ATVs, but they were not on the road.
