Beautiful family Misty & Mountain man, you must be proud of your kids. The best thing we can do for our kids is to make them self sufficient. We will not always be there, your kids will also teach there kids, and you can relax a bit.( except when you babysit)LOL
Those Shuns are great misty, i am a chef, i used that exact one you used for the bacon but an 8" for years, the D shaped handle is great if your a righty. Great steel, great blade.
Misty, I know in one of your videos, you said what breed of hens you have, but I can't find it again. So, please say again what the breed is that lays one egg per day. The hens I have now give me an egg every two or three days, and they are young....not a breed I want to keep. Thanks.
You should be very proud of your kids, I have worked with youth from 7-18 most of my working life and its frightening and unbelievable how many I have met who wouldn't be able nor willing to do the tasks at hand in this video, nonetheless be able to cope without constantly being provided for by parents or fast food! lol Poor misty struggling trying not to get involved, its great! I did however felt absolutely starving after watching this video, its the sound of that sizzling, Yum Yum! Great vid!
It looks absolutely delicious! My daughter has become quite the dough eater as well. While making bread I can't keep her little fingers away from pinching bits off! LOL Your children are gorgeous and did fabulous! I now know when doing biscuits on the stove to flip them last time I burnt them. Thank you for sharing!
That was nice, how many chickens are laying? that bacon was nice and meaty. I use bacon to season our soups lots of beans and split peas. Have been getting a fair amount of kale, swiss chard, carrots , beets and rabe from the garden. so it all goes in the pot. I am going to try to make biscuits on the stovetop like you did. Thanks Misty and Mountain Man and kids for the great video.
O yea got up at 6 and have a huge pot of Pintos on waiting for church people to come by for lunch.Going to have Pinto beans(soup beans in KY) ,Fried potatoes and cornbread .Going to fatten those fellows up so their mamas wont be fretting.Love ya all and God Bless all of you!
Those gals are great little workers Misty and I know you and MM are so proud that they can carry on if you had to be away or got separated. That little brother would be taken care of like momma would do it.Hugs to all of u and fine video there MM
what kid knows how to make homemade biscuits these days? The kids now days can barely put a pop tart in the toaster. I have been teachin my g'babies how to cook.
I LOVE your videos, and always look forward to "checking in" each morning to see what's going on with you and your precious family... It's wonderful that you share your family and cover so many topics on living a simple lifestyle (how envious I am!) and this pushes me to ask if you could do a few more videos on your cook stoves. Most of us turn on the gas or the electric burner and away we go - but it's not the case with a wood burning cook stove, so please share more...
Man what I would give to live like you do. Well I do use a gas stove so that is as close to a flame as I can get. You guys could turn that un to a business. Teach people that want to learn how to do what you do. Yes there are many details but you could get a pretty penny out of it. Clearly something all would need to agree on. Just an interesting suggestion?!!
when i was growing up there were 7 of us children...basic math was taugh to us in the kitchen..we all learned fractions and multipication at the stove....it was also a chemistry lesson...the kitchen is the best classroom
@centervilletn ..i love this kinda of cooking...we ate like this back in the day....Jackson co Tennessee...back in the holler...i picked blackberries all summer and fought the rattlers and copperheads...swim in the creek...these are my kinda folks....God bless..!
hey misty, im looking for cabbage, brocolli and cauliflower plants in the next 3 weeks...is anyone got any for in your neck of the woods? id like to plant a flat of each.
@MistysCountryCooking just let me know...ive got to buy some soon..i usually put mine out last week of february...id rather buy them from folks on cane creek than anyone else. Do you and Mountian man have us army alice packs?...
There is no greater joy than having your meal with your children, grownig, and raising the food on your table. It is a sweeter treat to have your lovely children prepare this meal with your guidence. Heartfelt wishes of joy and peace to you and yours.
Have you ever tried cooking the entire slab of bacon? I've never done it myself but I have seen on a tv show called Bacon Paradise theres a few restraunts in texas that cook the entire slab and serve it to you to cut however you want I was just wondering how that might taste whether its much greasier than slices or if it tastes any better/worse
I imagine that breakfast tasted even better because it was cooked by your lovely girls. I would really like to try my hand at making those biscuits. Do you think they would turn out as well if cooked over an open fire or perhaps a rocket or deadwood stove?
Good video! Good breakfast. >>But the video is really about the blessings received from >home-schooling kids in a Christian home. Eight minute long video & NONE of the kids fighting, complaining or whining. No one was a 'buttinski' & No one started an important message with 'Mom, Mom, MOM> You know what??" >>What a Blessing!
I'd bet there is hardly any television watched by the kids & if there is any, it's wholesome programs with no 'snarky' people in it.
Wonderful video! You have such sweet children to help you. Why did you cut the pork rind off your bacon? I buy slab bacon sometimes and the rind is on there, I cook it like it is.
I have been trying to get my daughter to estimate too! I adore your kids Misty! They are so good to you and their daddy. Surely, the Lord has blessed your home to have such a wonderful family. God Bless you!
Goodness that is the best ! Im thinking I'm getting hungry , boy O boy do I love them bisquits ! Good job !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now that's a country breakfast ! She is so right mom ,sooner or later you gonna have to leave the room ! :) :)
ummm..*whips out my napkin and tucks it under my chin* could I have a black coffee with that bacon, over very light egg, w/biscuits and gravy? lol...I usually have 2 eggs, but since you only got 8 this morning and I'm watchin my cholestral I'll pass. Your family is so sweet and everybody pitches in and does their part. Its just really great to see that. God bless ya'll.
Awesome!!!! You and Mountainman are doing the best for those kids teaching them to do for themselves at such an early age. The last two-three generations of children would be lost if they had to live as our grandparents in the past. Thanks for sharing as always.
Good job folks! Nice team-work, great self-sufficiency... wonderful to see a sweet family work together with such home making skills and camaraderie! Thanks for sharing -

Good job girls!! Going to go make myself a country breakfast which I rarely do....Its hard to let go and just let them go at it but thats how we all learned this reminded me so much when my mom.was teaching me how to cook good thing she started me early because she passed away when I was 16...
I love seeing children feeling so comfortable in the kitchen. Can't say we have a dough eater, though...lol. The breakfast looks great, girls. Wonderful job! :) Yes, Mama! You have to let them do it eventually!
that rind reminds me of the fat back we used to eat when I was a little younger. I can't eat that anymore because of my sky high cholesterol but I sure would like too.
Y'all are such a sweet family. I use that same biscuit cutter. : )
