@joelcube Yes, you can. However, Bio Bale is a great biological medium for a number of reasons...1) better utilization of space (more surface area inside that chamber for bacteria to seed on) 2) little to no water channeling and 3) it is incredibly easy to rinse and perform maintenance on. Rinsing lots of bio balls can be a difficult and cumbersome compared to rinsing BioBale.

I have no idea. if u can use the Cyclone Bio-Filter on fresh water. But i want one.

The protein skimmer works on the freshwater only the water temperature is below 50 F and use starter (such as diluted egg white solution). This unit is design for the marine tank.
