Seriously how is this a copy of The Smiths? And if you can even "remotely" compare the two, you should be happy.... This song is BRILLIANT, Smiths influence or not....
@missionpants - It's O.K. Musicians are allowed to be influenced by other musicians. It's not really a problem. The fact is that a lot of bands are influenced by other bands in ways that they don't know. I'm sure the GOW were aware of The Smiths at the time. What's wrong with noticing some similarities? It doesn't mean they tried to copy them or anything. I can see similarities between this song and some Smiths' material, mainly the bass line, wandering guitar, and mix.
@luckypascal: Sorry, it wasn't Tom Cochrane, it was Greg Reely that produced this album and Netwerk wasn't yet a Capital records subsidiary- that came a year or two later.
the 45' rpm(vinyl) had "misunderstanding" for face "B" ! What a great purchassed that was... CHECK THIS OUT : Both songs were produced by Tom Cochrane of Red Rider , he gave them their chance...He was on Capitaol Records and they were Distributed on Netwerk(A Capitol's affiliate Company). 2 Great songs, a couple of good albums , but became a tacky Beatle-like sounding ...well listen from the begining until the three house album...after that...it's up to you.
From "September Bowl of Green" album circa '85, this definitely showed their new-wave influence. They would change their sound on 1987's "Treehouse". Good stuff.
Hope these guys get back together to make more brilliant music!!

They are very reminiscent of Cannon Heath Down. I wonder if any members of the two bands ever met?
