  • 1:39 sounds like a soundtrack for a james bond movie :D

  • i swear any song that dave writes with you in it everyone assumes it's about kurt. HE SAYS IN THE DVD THIS SONG ISN'T ABOUT KURT

  • @ralexh11 He doesn't exactly say this one isn't about Kurt. He says that the songs off the Self titled album aren't about Kurt (As they were obviously written before his death) But this song is about all the times he should have known something was going to happen like it did. Butch Vig however instigates the song is about his past and Kurt.

  • @TheFOOfighterFREAK You spell Kurt's last name Cobain, no "e", if you were really a huge fan of Foo Fighters and Nirvana you would know that and it's not "The Foo Fighters" it's just "Foo Fighters"

  • @SuperSexyStew14 10-6-11 1st....This is OLD MTV NEWS PAL! Who Gives a Fu#k how it's spelled...Have some Respect for the DEAD!...that is if ['YOU ARE REALLY A HUGE FAN!']...& ASSHOLE...Listen Up...It's always been under Contract 'THE Foo Fighters.' I have all the CD's & NIRVANA's & the 20th Anniv. of NEVERMIND! JEALOUS?2nd....That msg. wasn't directed to YOU! Got it? Don't bother Writing back. I'm not dealing with your 'Psychobabble' on the Net. What you want is a NET WAR...you'll NEVER WIN!

  • 6-3-11 This is dedicated 2 ALL on this CH. & that R Foo Fighter FANS. U don't know DAVE as long as I do..or what makes him tick. Most that R Foo Fighter FANS didn't even know about NIRVANA on MTV in the early 90's. U LOVE DAVE 'cuz a NEW BAND ROSE, AFTER Kurt's Death. DAVE has been Bankrolling on FF's for 16 yrs. Now! Absolutely FF's R a Great Band. But Dave is late 40's & I PREDICT FF's will Break up SOON & ALL go on their SOLO PROJECTS as Before..i.e. DAVEw/ TCV He Left FF's Band HANGING!

  • @TheFOOfighterFREAK fuck you

  • @brunobb1 10-6-11Don't be Ignorant! I didn't even Write to you. What are you '11'??? Go pick a fight with someone your own age & that you could remotely come close to matching their intelligence. FURTHER,Why don't you Crawl back under the Rock from which you came? **This shit doesn't go down on FB or Twitter or any other site..ONLY ON YOU TUBE! Goes to show the Intelligence level of you. Don't you have a Book Report to write for school? Don't bother writing me back. I won't reply. I'll BLOCK you

  • @TheFOOfighterFREAK actually no, I'm not 11, I just found your comment stupid

  • And here i was wondering how they were gonna replicate that insanley thundering bass Krist laid down on the album. Pat is the shit! And this is truly one of my faves off the new record

  • Dave has said himself who this is about. That's one of the coolest things about him - no games, no mystery. Watch the doc about the making of this album.

  • @littlebearchloe The documentary he NEVER said who this was about. Butch Vig said he thought it might be about Kurt. Watch it (Back and Forth) again. He never mentions Kurt when in reference to this song. Doesn't mean it's not about him, but I'm sure Dave is SICK AND TIRED of fielding questions about it, 17 years after the fact.

  • Y'all must be tired of my saying... I love this man! Dave Grohl IS THE COOLEST MAN ALIVE! \m/ Miami loves you! No really we do!!!!

  • The song has many meanings, number one is the loss of his childhood friend in 2008 to a drug overdose and another is kurt but only slightly.

  • Who gives a Fuck who this song is about, Dave said it was about multiple things. Its a great fucking song period.

  • first foo fighters album i ever bought and im glad that i did!

  • @JohnHavoc1 6-3-11 Good Choice. BUT to really Understand the Foo Fighters...& their Songs & vids..U NEED to START from the Beginning & listen to each CD. AND if you NEVER heard NIRVANA...where DAVE GROHL came from...that led to DAVE's formation of the Foo Fighters, AFTER KURT COBAINE died....THAN U should Check out NIRVANA too. There R so many loyal followers STILL! (If U can't get ahold of the FF's or NIRVANA CD's, U can usually find them in local libraries. U can BURN CD's in Computer :D

  • dont download it that means stealing for FF dont steal!!!

  • thats what i thought, 0 DISLIKES

  • people go to ill stick around its a good song

  • Free Album Download @ PakkOut [dot] com

  • this is not about kurt ut there are some references about him

  • J'adore l'album dans sa totalité...une préférence pour " I should have known"....très bon album....que du bonheur........

  • For those of you who have not seen "Back and Fourth" Dave said he wrote the song about a situation that he knew was going bad but kept the course however, he went on to say during the recording of the song and having Krist come in it became had for himself to not make the parallel to his past.

  • the song isn't about Kurt

  • This is one of my favorites of this record. It's so damn good! Love it!

  • this song is NOT about Kurt Kobain, if anyone saw Foo Fighters: Back and Forth they would know that

  • Did anyone else see them on Saturday Night Live.It was AWSOME!!!...But seriously they were good.

  • hey funfoo he has all of these feelings built up and hasnt been able to express them for kurt until now.

  • i love nirvana its mah fave band .....but that doesnt mean i have to talk shit on the foo fighters

  • This album is great, I love it!! :)

    ROCK ON FOO FIGHTERS!!

  • album comes out 4/12

  • When is this album coming out i CANNOT WAIT!!!

  • this is an unbelievable track, end of story.

  • Double Bass is great! Pats' got the "Boris" Bass/Guitar Guitar. AWESOME!!!

Foos have the 3 gutars now!!! Kinda like Molly Hatchet or Articles Of Faith or whatever, sounds frigin' good!

  • my favourite of the album........ got it this morning, so good

  • I should have known that this was going to be a GREAT SONG!!!

  • :'(

  • It's peculiar that Dave wanted Krist to play bass and accordian on this track. Do you think maybe Dave wrote it expressing how Krist must've felt?

I read in a music magazine (either NME or Q) where they were interviewing Dave, and Dave said that after recording this, he hugged Krist to console him.

  • @scartissue94 source?gief

  • @Eldererr

Sure, lemme message it to you.

  • so pat is touring with foo`s man i want to see them here in mexico

i love pat thats all i can say

  • @humpterthompson he's back permanently actually...recorded the album with them too!

  • i believe this is the song from the album with Krist Novoselic on bass (and accordion)

  • Dave and Kurt didnt have the greatest relationship, but for Dave to come out and say it would be in bad taste. Hes the nicest guy in rock and he gets along with anyone.

You have the wrong guy. Krist Novoselic is Kurt's closest friend, not Dave. Krist and Kurt GREW UP together. They didnt meet Dave until their early 20s and it only lasted a little over 3 years.

  • @PersonMister I know it can be fun to debate what meanings are of anything, songs, life, etc. But it's a song and no matter who it's about... Who's friends with whom and for how long, it doesn't matter. People move on with their lives and can continually be inspired by new experiences and influenced by past ones.

My advice: Get over it. Nirvana's was great, but it's the past - the Foo is now enjoy it. Let the past be the past and turn the present up LOUD!!! -

  • @FunFooFilms 6-3-11 :-( SHAME ON U! I thought U had enough common sense 2 KNOW that NIRVANA & KURT COBAIN's MEMORY & MUSIC STILL LIVE ON! DAVE is MY FRIEND. I'm an Executive in the Music Industry & Sign ACTS. Dave & ALL Musicians Have their Moments when THEY forget WHERE THEY CAME FROM. DAVE was in SCREAM & then later joined NIRVANA...STILL the most Awesome Music& Lyrics. This was Dave's Bread&Butter. 16 yrs together? FF's..It NEVER WOULD HAVE HAPPENED..If KURT wasn't Dead. I see a BREAKup

  • @PersonMister 6-3-11 RIGHT ON! Thanks4 Speaking Up& Telling the TRUTH! I'm 'SHOCKED' that a Guy behind 'FunFooFilms' made a Comment 2 U ["Get over it.Nirvana was great but it's the past-the Foo is now enjoy it. Let the past be the past and turn the present up LOUD!"] Whoever is this FFF's IS TUNED OUT!(including using an 'old FF's Logo& adds a 3rd 'F') I'm Personal friends with The Foo Fighters& DAVEgrowlGROHL&go back 2 NIRVANA. There would be NO FF's IF 'KURT' was still Alive!DAVEsFame=NIRVANA

  • and lets not forget one important FACT about Nirvana. Dave Grohl was 1/3rd of it.

You always hear about Cobain this or Cobain that, and thats completely disrespecting Grohl's contribution to the band. You think its a coincidence Nirvana didnt get big til Grohl joined, and hes STILL making good (and sometimes much better) music?

Cobain NEEDED Grohl in that band, plain and simple. Take away his drumming, its not the same is it?

  • the only song admitting about Cobain is Friend of a Friend, which is one of the first songs he ever wrote.

The song is about how weird Cobain was, because Dave just met him. Why does everyone act like these two were separated at birth? they werent. Dave admitting felt lonely in that band because they were NEW bandmates and the whole time Nevermind blew up, he didnt have anyone there to share that experience with.

You have to look at this from Dave Grohl's perspective.

  • there you go folks. from Dave himself.

The song eventually took on even broader meaning, as songs often do, beyond the initial inspiration. “The idea is really more that you don’t think about the specific person or who it’s about. It’s just about what it’s about. “I don’t want to take that connection from you because it might have happened to you,” he continued. “So when you’re listening to it or singing it, you’re doing it for your own reasons, not mine.”

  • “With every album, if I ever sing a song about losing someone or death, most people really just sort of assume that it’s about Kurt,” Grohl said. “And I have wonderful memories of Kurt. Kurt was a great dude. He was a really sweet guy. And it’s heartbreaking still, what happened. But unfortunately, it’s happened to me more than once in my life. So when I first started writing that song, I was writing it about someone else.”

  • How can you idiots say this is about Kurt, you fucking shitheads??? JUST LISTEN TO THE LYRICS, YOU FREAKS!

  • Really ** ...... last 19 days to wait

  • i hate that girl on the the violin, and that guy behind them on the blue shirtt, i dont like nothing that

  • Loving Pat's guitar/bass.

  • from such a different place."

Dave also said he was never really accepted in the band, because Kurt wasnt satisfied with his musical skills.

    Rolling Stone interview 7/19/2005

    Google it.

One of Dave's actual childhood best friends Jimmy died in 2009 and he wrote a song about him on the Greatest Hits record, "Word Forward."

There are people that Dave has known all of his life and for way longer than Cobain, that he writes about. Show. Some. Respect.

  • @PersonMister dude kurt said on an interview he liked dave grohl and yes they were friends not best friends but they were cool. and dave said that while recording in utero, kurt didnt like the drumming and wasnt satisfied with alot of things in the band but overall this song is about him* he said he first wrote it thinking of sumone else but then it changed meanings and since krist novolesic is in the song obviously its about kurt!

  • @PersonMister

You've done your reading and I totally agree that too many people link Dave heavily with Nirvana. Sure he was in Nirvana, but not everything about his life after, is reminiscent of his experiences in the band. If I'm gonna be honest you went a little too far to prove a point there.....and maybe approached it wrong but you are right. However you can't deny that Nirvana has influenced a lot of the music, maybe not a lot but tracks like White Limo Oooze grunge

  • He told Rolling Stone magazine: When I joined Nirvana I was the fifth or sixth drummer, I dont know if theyd ever had a drummer they were totally happy with. And they were strangers. There was never much of a deeper connection outside of the music. Krist and Kurt had a legendary lifetime connection. Those guys were soulmates. Theyd been through so much together, from Aberdeen, to the success of Nevermind. They f*cking shared everything. I never really shared that moment with them because I came

  • @PersonMister chill the fuck out and listen to the song man

  • so please, have some f*cking respect for Dave here.

I wonder how annoying it must be if people continually come to him even 17 years later asking about a bandmate he knew for 3 and a half years, he was never best friends with.

Daves unfortunately become the spokesman for that band just because he has continued on making music.

Google "Dave Grohl, lonely, Nirvana" to read the article. Its from July 2005.

  • its down right appalling to think that he would STILL be writing about Cobain after 17 years.

The only song hes ever written about Cobain is "Friend of a Friend" and ironically, its about how lonely he was when he first joined a band with "two strangers." Dave periodically went home to Virginia when the popularity got too crazy to see his family and friends.

Sorry folks, between Grohl and Cobain, youre looking for a connection that isnt there. Daves known many people in his life we dont know

  • Dave Grohl knew Kurt Cobain for a whopping 3 and a half years. Why does everyone seem to think that those two were best friends?

Cobain's best friend was Novoselic, not Grohl, and Grohl has even noted of rifts in the band between he and Cobain. Dave is from Washington, DC, not Seattle. Didnt join the band til he was 21. Nirvanas a very short period of his life. He was thrown into the spotlight with two strangers as he noted and admitted to feeling lonely in the band.

    Use. Your. Heads.

  • This song is not about Kurt Cobain. Well, the line 'I've been here before' likely refers to Kurt, but the rest of the song is about someone else.

  • @OfficialFFL than why did novelselic contribute to the song? is it all a big mindfuck by mr grohl? i bet he is laughing his ass off while we try to decipher it..

  • @jjc19461 Knowing who it is about, I highly doubt he is laughing. He just wanted Krist to be part of this very personal song I guess. If you do some googling about Dave and events over the last two years, you should be able to work out who it's about.

  • @OfficialFFL supposely "every" song is about kurt by them...

  • @OfficialFFL Butch Vig disagrees

  • @RockNGrohl4593

Butch has never said "This song is about Kurt, Dave told me". His exact quote was "We had Krist Novoselic come in and play bass [on the song], and I'm not exactly sure what the song's about, but to me, it seems there's definitely some references about Kurt Cobain, and it's one of the most primal, raw things the Foo Fighters have ever done, and I think it's one of the best tracks on the record,"

So yeah, he thinks some of it is about Kurt. Which it is. One line.

  • @OfficialFFL

one line? seems like the entire thing could be applied to him tbf :/

  • @IDanClarkI

It could, yes. Maybe that was intentional by Dave, but I'm pretty certain the only line about Kurt is 'I've been here before'. The rest of the song is about someone after Kurt, hence the past tense of that that line.

  • @OfficialFFL

But think about it, some of the lines wouldn't make sense to be about Kurt.

    'Didn't hear your warning'

The Rome incident was a pretty clear warning.

    'Came without a warning'

    'Caught Me unaware'

Again, Kurts death wasn't exactly without a warning was it?

  • @OfficialFFL well, the rome incident was only a suicide attempt according to courtney love, and kurt's best friend dylan carlson said he was the happiest he had ever been.

  • He finally went there, right on Dave.

  • I see Noveselic playing the piano

  • @calmlikeabomb117 That's not Noveselic, it's their touring pianist.

  • Ye the new Foos album sounds amazing :D

When I heard this song, straight away I thought it was about Kurt because of the lyrics and with Noveselic playing bass it made me think that it was about Kurt even more. And aswell Nirvana were like glue, they loved each other,I don't think Dave forgets that at all.I'm not saying that he thinks about him everyday but he does keep him in mind, that's what counts.

  • I would be shocked if this isn't about Kurt. I don't know why people think Dave would never write songs about him. At the beginning he didn't want to because he wanted it to be clear that Foo Fighters was separate from Nirvana, but they're clearly established now. The Foos already have a couple songs about Kurt anyways, and the lyrics of this one clearly make it seem like this is another.

  • @TJRy12921 And don't forget the fact that Krist Novoselic (Nirvana's bassist) coincidentally features on this track...

  • /watch?v=cvokNlmNsU4

New Full Foo Fighters Song HD Album Song Track

  • @schankster8000 the video was removed...? There's a new video for Rope and it sounds great

  • the end sort of sounds like come alive. "Nothing wrong to give, I can finally live, come alive" then in this song " Maybe she was right, didn't want to fight, I should have known"

  • @madcow312 that is what i thought too. Ohh well, they both kick ass

  • I can see this being used for film and TV promo's so much.

  • Oooohhhhh! Mellotron sound! never would have thought of that ever being used. nice direction lads. :-)))

  • Taylor Hawkins!!

  • Guys, it doesn't matter. Great lyrics are always open for interpretation. To me it's definitely a song about Kurt Cobain. But if you can read something else into and it still moves you that's the best sign for great lyrics!

Thx FunFooFilms for the upload. Been listening to your vids all week! All the best from Germany...

  • This song is February Stars' weary cousin... or uncle.

  • Butch Vig himself said that this has obvious references to his ..past friend, lets put it that way.And it Vig says so, it is like it.

  • love that doubleneck

  • i'm confident this is about Kurt..

  • @cityofstars That would make sense

  • @cityofstars People have said that about almost every song Dave has wrote about someone. As Dave himself said when people were "confident" that Let It Die was about Kurt, "I've known a lot of people in my life". Just because he writes a heart felt song about another person doesn't automatically mean it's about Kurt. Kurt Cobain and Nirvana are a VERY small part of Dave Grohl's life. That's no disrespect to Kurt, but man.. Dave's not in his shadow anymore. Hasn't been for over a decade.

  • @derbydriver I'm with you. He's not in Cobains shadow, and this song could be about anybody or anything. Thou seeing as how he had Novoselic play bass and accordian on the album track it almost makes sense. I've been wrong before thou. :)

  • @derbydriver Dave never denied that Nirvana was HUGE part of his life, as he himself said he learned whats life then. And I believe he learned how to manage band-he saw all Nirvana mistakes and that hepled Foos to be better.Vig said that this song has obivous references about him so...if Vig says, it has to be that way.

  • @derbydriver oh man shut up :) kurt means alot to Dave look at his interviews

  • @cityofstars i agree

  • When is the new album released? I cant wait no more!

  • @KUKJAVELN April 12th!

  • I love this song! Can't waitfor the new album!

  • WOW. Lyrically sensational, sounds great. Gut wrenching.

  • holy shit... Nate Mendal 3:08

  • pat smear=one sexy motherfucker

  • jajajjajajja

  • Man... all these new songs sound like a best singles album!! Can't wait for them..............
