to most of you wondering, isaac actually cleaned up drinking before concerts, he realized that no one wanted to see him that drunk on stage because people paid for a good performance. He didn't write these songs, you can check it out on wiki, Edgar Graham was the original writer of the ugly casanova songs. That's why you havent seen any more albums from the ugly casanova band
@120223 Edgar Graham isn't a real person. Check out the first note at the bottom of the wiki page. All the songs were written by isaac and he created the whole Edgar Graham back story for them.
are you talking donnie darko language or real stuff, because there is a whole spectrum of human emotion. fear and love. black and white. its a gray world my friend.
So there are two human emotions, right? FEAR and LOVE. fear is a long slow wave and love is a fast short wave. These energies (waves that manifest themselves in your brain and are released as chemicals) can be projected and received. This is a big part of why certain music appeals to different people. Issac Brock is one of few who are able to take those emotional "waves" and turn them into sound. And the crazy thing is, even if its a sad song, all i feel is LOVE. goddamn their great....
I saw UC in Houston in 2002 and have to disagree with your statement. Brock was no doub drunk. I spoke with him after the show (they played a very small venue) and he was pretty intoxicated. Dont get me wrong, the show was awesome. It truely was, but to say he was "sober" at this point would be incorrect. It's really his business anyhow. If you enjoy the music, great. If not then move on. It shouldn't matter what he was drinking at the time.
@Abarnes0678 I was referring to when he WROTE these songs. I'm sure he went back to drinking later, but during writing and recording of Sharpen Your Teeth, Isaac was for the most part clean.
@Abarnes0678 I shot the Houston concert and it's on Youtube. He just doesn't seem that intoxicated to me. Certainly no more then any other musician I have seen on stage over the past 20 years.
just want to say this show if you can find the video of its entirity is one the greatest live performances ever. dont care if isaac was extremely drunk.
Well, no, because he isn't a member of MM. Regardless, One of the many things I appreciate about a cat like Brock is the fact he wouldn't give a shit how you dress as long as you have something to contribute to the music. The man is wearing pajama bottoms while performing, that seems like something Brock would be willing to do as well. So, in essence, yeah, he kind of does look like a member of Ugly Casanova (and not just because he actually is one).
this is honestly one of the dumbest things i have ever read. backup? he's co-lead on the entire album. this isn't MM, it's UC, and he is one of the reasons it's a nice departure from MM. btw, he leads a band called holopaw with an album that isaac helped produce. without his voice, the UC album would be a much lesser piece of art.
ya holopaw is good, i got their newer album but i cant seem to find any websites with lyrics to it, just their older album. Orths voice takes some getting used to, but i learned to like it
I once heard that Ugly Casanova used to open for Modest Mouse and that Isaac would wear a fake mustache to disguise himself. Apparently by wearing the fake mustache noone knew it was him...Is there any truth in the Ugly Casanova opening for Modest Mouse thing, because that would be pretty bad arze opening for your own band?
isaac is a great mind. the lyrics he's come up with that can be general or so personal are amazing. lines he's made within ugly casanova and modest mouse are incredible. his music has changed me. i cycle modest mouse constantly. ugly casanova is very good too.
Though it seems Isaac was baked when he did this song, its a very good one. He has such a unbelievable voice. Everyone seems to be in the same situation this song is talking about. Isaac Brock is brilliant, no doubt about that. The lyrics are hard to understand and are not self explanatory, but thats the beauty of it :)
I heard they did their first and only tour with Iron & Wine as the opening performer. I would have loved to see UC live. Those who did were very lucky.
I get so bummed because I feel like I'll never get a chance to see them live. I've loved them for the past 3 years and this is one of my all time favorite songs ever. I'd pay a months rent to see them... maybe not a months rent.. but yeah.
i saw them twice on this tour it was amazing they played every song from the album did what isaac does which is ramble charmingly extended every song and ended with styrofoam boots what incredible memories
like i said, i can't remember the exact URL, but if i can find a way to cut down the show by song (i'm technologically retarded), i'll pass it to you; just IM me with your email addy
Oh, i didn't mean it that way. I meant i was looking for a video or something. I think isaac brock should get back together with Ugly Casanova. That would be pretty cool!
