  • Unusual gitar. Never seen or heard of it.

  • @666MetallicaDave it's a 10 strings bass

  • @enlightening Where do you get a 10 string bass?

  • fuck me, is there anything john paul jones CAN'T do?

  • Comment removed

  • it's like he goes into slow motion at 2:25

  • This sounds like prog metal.

  • this is a fucking heavy tune

  • JPJ is a better musician than Jimmy Page.

  • one of my 2 biggest influences as a bass player together with cliff burton R.I.P.

  • What a F****** GOOD MUSICIAN !!!

  • JPJ and chris squire . i bow to u

  • too smoove

  • Another god is also on the stage: Pat Mastelotto on drums.

  • @rensamanhun I fully agree. Everyone here should check out his work with King Crimson. Especially the "Power to Believe"-album.

  • All fans of this vid should check out the live performances of Them Crooked Vultures. Epic-ness personified by all musicians in that supergroup.

  • Now Jonesy finally gets the focus that he really deserves! He's so underrated...

  • k nobody cares about the guitarist in this video lol

  • my brain just cummed

  • is he using a pick??

  • @PrisonBreakFilms damn skippy he is.

  • Holy damn. His fingers must be made of steel.

  • One of my biggest influences! Learning John Paul Jones bass lines is one of best thing any bass player can do to become a great bass player.

  • @Dosdas I bought my first bass for that purpose specifically. He is tops as far as I am concerned in format of a 4 piece rock band . I have always tried to understand his way of thinking and his approach to playing .He brings alot to the table as an arranger of songs also .

  • Never heard a bass guitar sound that epic...

  • What's that? A five string bass he's playing like a guitar - those Brits: geniuses!

  • Him and the drummer were the only ones in led zeplin who weren't wankers.

  • @garyc2 thats not true at all robert plant and jimmy page were both incredibly talented musicians just as good as the other to so go die in a hole or get your facts straight

  • @ltcs2 Yeah but robert plant loved himself. He especially loved stroking his well groomed hair and calling himself baby all the time.

Jimmy Page also thought he was chocolate. He can play incedably well for someone who's guitar is round there knees. It's a woder he never got tendentisis. it's nearly attached to his shoes.

the other too jus did there job and did it well.

I never said they were not tallented jus wankers.

So don't be nasty and get your facts right. Read the comment.

  • @ltcs2 well that shut me up....

  • HOLY shiT....fuck JPJ is the FUCKIN SHIT,............the true genuius behind LED ZEPPELIN, the true genious bass player...............I DONT KNOW IF I SPELLED GENIOUS

  • RIFF!

  • Excuse my ignorance. BUT what is JPJ playing? is that a bass or a guitar??

    Can somebody tell me ??

  • @oliverbrb it's a bass with 8 strings, just like a guitar with 12 strings

  • @kenny9288 i think it's 10 strings...

  • @oliverbrb A Manson 10-string bass. John Paul Jones is a beast. :)

  • he aint shit compared to entwistle

  • That........was........amazing! John Paul Jones you are fucking amazing!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Is it Bill Bruford on the drums in this vid?

  • @ZimMortensen No he's Pat Mastelloto (he'd played with King Crimson on their last albums)

  • FRICKIN KILLER !!! JPJ !!! AND THEZE DUDES WILL ROLL UP AND SMOKE AND ANYONE !!!

  • Comment removed

  • The whole "Zooma" album slams like this.

  • Superb I very much enjoyed listening to this

  • If Led Zeppelin stayed together for longer I have a feeling Tidal would be known as the song of the century.

  • what is that instrument called?

the one john paul jones is playing?

  • @delmar3skate 8 string bass

  • @delmar3skate

it's usual 5 string bass guitar but it's made 10 string like 12 guitar works for 6 guitar strings 6 additional thinner ones and like that for bass's 5 strings ( it's Warwick though) :)

  • @delmar3skate It's actually a Manson 10-string bass. I'd have posted a link but apparently YouTube doesn't like that.

  • Comment removed

  • I'd say he's my favourite bassist ever. He could even be the best. But on the other hand John Entwistle is pretty good. Tough decision.

  • Who else plays a 12-string like that?

  • Saw these guys open for King Crimson...they stole the show!

  • @GrandFunker I saw the show in Phoenix. And the more King Crimson played the more angry I got because I just wanted to listen to John all night.

  • @nellgwen48 yeah, defintely not the best Crimson lineup! I'll nevr forget visiting their website the next day. Pat Mastelotto had posted a picture of this massive mixing board, with buttons everywhere. He captioned it with something like 'pressed the wrong buttons in Philly last night'.

  • if only the sound could be louder..

  • Jones é o maior baixista de todos os tempos... He's the imperator ....Zeppelin the Best of the Best

  • God of the bass

  • Jones is the spawn of the Devil ! he is evil incarnate !Don't look into his eyes ! jk He is the best

  • That riff is freakin' mental!!!!!!! :OOOOO

  • how many fucking strings does JPJ's bass have?!?

  • @LoganLevi006 5 bass strings and 5 guitar strings

  • John Paul Jones is a GENIUS !!!!!

  • I think the guy is playing 12 string guitar, not bass, clinehar

  • @gaguiababui it's a 10 string bass mate

  • without jones no zepp

  • Comment removed

  • Omg wth, was that a 12 string bass/ guitar?

  • John Paul is underated, he shares the succes of Led zep with Jimmy Page but never had the credit.

  • Happy birthday John Paul Jones!!! World's best bass players!

  • I dont get it , is that a bass guitar?

  • @xXPredraGXx Yes.....a 10 string by the looks of it ;-)

  • @wolfkarel Sure is, just proving JPJ is God.

  • Does anyone have a tab for this song? If you do, I will seriously be your slave for life.

  • Led Zep rocked because of JPJ and Bonzo - if your not sure - compare Page's work since Zeppelin ended, Plant's work since Zeppelin ended, and John Paul Jones' work since Zeppelin ended.

  • @Eyzeday WELLLLLL WHO WROTE THE ZEPPELIN SONGS?????????????????????????????

JPJ Wrote SOME and IS an Amazing bassist, Bonham is the best drummer ever, But JIMMY AND ROBBIE WROTE A SHITLOAD OF YOUR FAVORITE SONGS, so shut up about it.

  • JPJ with a pic?????????????????

  • @leewee11 he used picks even in zeppelin. he wrote black dog and performed it with a pick

  • @leewee11 he used picks even in zeppelin. he wrote black dog and performed it with a pick. besides, ur supposed to use picks on dual stringed basses

  • @leewee11

Yes, I think it's not possible to make sound those double strings good with fingers... He often used pick with Led Zeppelin by the way...

  • Far out.

  • Jonesy out-Paged Page

  • @coffeeairplane its so true! god i wish i was born in that era,

  • @coffeeairplane Without a doubt, he was the driving for force behind Led Zeppelin, and an unsung hero. He always chose to stay out of the spotlight, while Page and Plant stole it. The more I listen to Jonesy's solo stuff, the more evident it has become. Not to take anything from Robert, Jimmy, and especially Bonzo.

  • @coffeeairplane ah no, but jones still kicks ass

  • @coffeeairplane bet he couldn't out beck beck, or out entwistle entwistle

  • wtf up with his bass

  • All I can say is FRIGGIN` AWESOME !

  • was that a whammy pedal?

  • Is that a 12 string bass? Dude....

  • @bearchildofdeath Thats a 10 string bass with 5 courses. First time i see one and its amazing tbh

  • Yeah, this guy is a massive Badass of Bass.

  • SIMPLY LED ZEPPLINE FUCKING PWNS !!! THEY GOT AMAZING BASSIST WHICH IS WELL-KNOWN , AMAZING DRUMMER WHICH IS WELL KNOWN , AMAZING GUITARIST WHICH IS WELL KNOWN AND AMAZING VOCALIST WHICH IS ALSO WELL KNOWN......NO WONDER THESE 4 MAKE A KILLER BAND!!!!

  • @makantang What the fuck. I have no idea what you're trying to say. A band should be judged as good or bad for the music they create.

  • omg put this with jimmy's violin bow!!!

  • Sweet Jesus that riff is.. is.. . un-explainably amazing. damnit get me a thesaurus

  • Who's the drummer?

  • Comment removed

  • @VictorGuilherme Pat Mastelotto from King Crimson

  • @mhvoivod Thanks! No wonder I was thinking "Man, that guy is good!"

  • Best musician of all time, in any universe or dimension.

  • @ubernerd35 couldnt agree more

  • it's great to see JPJ in the spotlight

  • where can I get a copy of guitar wars in the UK which wont cost me £80?

  • jpj's so fuckin' progressive, I LOVE IT!!! :D

  • Awesome song. Never knew JPJ did this.

  • 12 string bass!

  • @shanesreallycool not 12 strings, it's a 10 strings, but with 5 bass strings and 5 guitar string

  • jpj is an amazing multi instrumentalist

  • Jones was the "true" genius behind Zeppelin......Period...

  • jackts9999! its a 10 string Manson bass

  • Of the surviving members of Led Zep, JPJ is the one who has most adapted himself to the sounds of today. Then again, this music sounds more like something that Hendrix would'v done. That is to say, it's from Mars!

  • John Paul Jones ....That guy still looks and sounds great !! in other words hes still got it!!... if not more!!

  • 11 people don't know what a genius JPJ is. I totally agree with ledzepzoso03!

  • ok...

    I jizzed

  • I Wish this video had a better audio quality *-*

  • Oh God the Solo is sooooo Amazing! Thats soooo cooll mann Fuck!

  • 8 STRING BASS FTW

  • @Jackts9999 its ten string, lol

  • @abar1204 Oh ok...10 STRING BASS FTW!!

  • i would really like to see john paul jones on guitar

  • i know he uses swr stacks, but can anyone tell me where he gets that amazing distortion?

  • is that a 10string bass? I DIED AND CAME BACK TO LIFE!

  • Cool song. Loved the "Zooma" CD and saw the tour. Great stuff!

  • towards the end of the song i guess we saw a little bit of jimmy page in jonesy !!

  • i dont get why he didnt do shit like this in zep having a song like this would have made them 10x better

  • @jbassman666 There were quite a few songs, if not most with complex basslines. But i do agree this style would of been cool.

  • Best bassist of all time.

  • This is the first video I've see the gave JPJ the proper footage.

  • To be honest,I never knew the bass could sound as good as the electric guitar but here it actually does sound better!CRAZY! I just wish he wasn't so UNDERRATED!

  • 200

  • Glastonbury this year.we end up with the fucking Gorillaz. over Zep,uk music as just died!!!"

  • WTF

    Your a god in Bass!

    nice one Sir John..

    =)

  • what kind of guitar is jpj playing and how many strings?

  • @zepp1977 Apparently, it's 8 string bass, each of the usual 4 string is doubled, as for a 12 string guitar... but it seems that in the solo part, he can split the bass from the treble choir, or he may use an octavior effect, to sound like a guitar...that man is creative musician, anyway!

  • @BALKISDREAMER He is amazing!!!

  • johnpaul jones is the best at playing bass

  • The best. The best. ^_^

  • Badass!

  • I'm so glad to see JPJ thriving and enjoying his work, and most of all sharing it with the rest of us. An unsung hero, indeed. When one listens to the rich bass and keyboard lines that underscored the Zeppelin sound, it becomes apparent that Jones was a key creative force.

  • John Paul Jones is not a only a great bass player. HE IS A MUSICIAN and a very skilled one O_o

  • @MrZoaBearr you're fucking right!

  • Not one of the best, THE BEST...

  • John Paul Jones is completely underrated

  • @spicyn00dles By who? all rock lovers know that he is the best bass player ever. he composed a lot of stuff with led zeppelin and he played with lots of musicians. he is a fucking genius

  • Awsome!

    John is verrryyyy talented.

Oh and I didn't really hear any guitar, is that just me?

  • holy shit

    that was awesome

  • wtf of weird sound and guitar!

  • What effect is he using?

  • @Mynameisjack2 Sounds like just distortion, 8 string's usually sound different from the average bass.

  • Is this song in an album? if it is what is the name of the album?

  • Zooma

  • i would roll my best green bud with Jones and be happy for the chance

  • I love Geddy Lee, John Entwistle, Jack Bruce, Chris Squire, Flea, Billy Sheehan, Victor Wooten, and many others, but John Paul Jones is my all time favorite. He's such an excellent musician, and nobody grooves like him. He and Bonham were the best rhythm section ever. Glad he's still rockin'!

  • @governorgilf whitout question the best bassist ever. His solo stuff has some heavy and funky bass lines! I also like John Entwistle, my second favourite.

  • The members of zeppelin are like organs in a body, they don't function right without the others

  • Have you not seen Them Crooked Vultures? I think JPJ does mighty fine with them.

  • without question one of the best bass players of our time.

  • @clinehar of all time

  • wicked

  • @rekycheky im starting to see just who WAS zeppelelin

  • john is so awesome no wonder zeppelin sounds so good and them crooked vultures

  • If you guys dig this, check out "Highway One" by Them Crooked Vultures. Kinda reminds me of this. It wasn't on the 1st album but they play it live...Jpj plays a bass mandolin in it.

  • q porcaria

  • Dude. I thought that was a fucking guitar playing, not JPJ.

Jesus, he's like the Chuck Norris of European bassists.

  • No, it's a 5 string bass.

  • @MrAlexOfBullhead : it's a 10 string bass !

  • *looks closer*

    Godammit!

Hell, dosen't stop the fact that it's a bass guitar!

  • It's actually a 10-string bass.

  • We already concoured that.

  • Pat Mastelotto-drums

  • NUNO BETTENCOURT!!!

    PORTUGAL!!!!!

  • Anyone who doesn't know: Check out the Them Crooked Vultures. JPJ is an new band with Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters) and Josh Homme (Queens of the stone age). There stuff sounds amazing, in large part because of JPJ.

  • Or maybe in third part cause of JPJ. The other two aren't fucking idiots you know.

  • Technically, without a Bassist that can pull together such a Powerhouse Drummer and Riff-tastic guitarist, music sounds raw.
