make no mistake. This is the real THE GUESS WHO. It makes me sick when JIM KALE AND HIS BAND OF GOONES, parade themselves as THE GUESS WHO. God Bless Burton and Randy.

I want to tell you folks that the Guess Who with the original band members of Cummings/Bachman duo was the best concert I've ever seen. I've seen many rock concerts in the 1000s from the 70s to the present, yet this band had it all that night. They played at the HP Pavillion in San Jose, CA that was an excellent performance. If only I could change the hands of time and sit through it all again, I would pay any price to do so.
I would have paid the million dollars and toured the hell out of North America and the world to recapture the cost and more. One million is nothing compared to the huge potential of the Guess Who name and two of the original leading band members. In one or 2 performances, they would have easily covered the cost of the "bribe" !!
Also, search on You Tube for "Whatever Happened to Richard". You can see Burton as he is today. Also, search for "Stone Free", he sings with Bachman. New stuff. And a cute interview with some song clips, "CHFI Live".
Jimmy Kale owns the group name and wants a million bucks for it. Bachman and Cummings told him to fuck himself and went out as Bachman and Cummings instead of The Guess Who. Peterson and Kale still tour as The Guess Who with some other musicians in the band.
He still has it. Not as "clean" or as "pure" as when he was younger but he still has it. He's over 60 and tho he doesn't have the range anymore, he's still the best voice in rock, IMO. Robert Plant is another one. He's another great vocalist who has aged well. These guys are American Music Heroes!
last summer they played in capebreton and he sounded better then he does here, im willing to bet he's sick here. by the way carpetfrogs are great as a back up band
I guess that is what is great about having a less than stellar voice. You can age and nobody notices. Burton may not sound like he use to, but I am glad he still trys. His songs have a bit of reach in range, so it is natural that he cant hit them all. I guess if he sounded like his partner Randy (self professed NON singer) or Bob Dylan, or Neil Young, it would be OK. At least he hasnt gotten as bad as Sinatra in the end, using tele prompters and talking your way through songs.
Cool video, but this is not the Guess Who. It's Bachman-Cummings playing their re-write of American Woman. It's called Amercian Woman '06. It was from their '06 tour called "First Time Around".
I can understand the way you feel about the "aging pipes." But not everyone ages the same. Paul is fortunate to still have his voice. Too bad he smokes like a chimney. Sure does not help him when it comes to his looks. Smoking causes wrinkles, and he has a face full of them.
When people age, everything ages, even the singing pipes. Cummings is not the exception. Some artists still sound somewhat like they did in the past, but not too many. I appreciate all the music he has shared with us. And for that, I love Burt.
Actually, I do not induldge in anything harmful to my body--so, smoking is out, dude. Look, I love what he did in the Guess Who, I am just giving straight. As a music composer and producer myself, my ears are for real, not just blindly nostalgic. For proof,
check out "the guess who live 1974 American Woman" and compare THAT live rendition to this one.I dig Burt, but using the "aging pipes" argument is a cop-out. McCartney stills sings with more edge and he is OLDER than Burt + a chain-smoker!

I have been researching Burton for a while now,and have found that the last time he even sounded like himself was a live show in 1974 on tv. Man, he really blows now-very forced and no edge/grit like on the Original Amer.Woman of yore. Just listen to his transistions--just depressing to listen now. I think once he began donning the mustache he began going downhill--just research his performances cronilogically if you don't believe me. Sad to see a prior giant dwarf himself. :(
Bachman and Cummings, Henley and Frey, Lennon and McCartney. Covers Canada, U S and UK.. lol What else is there? Ok I know there are heaps more but these dudes really did a lot.
my favorite band growin' up...bachman and cummings...what a combo...
I've seen the bastardized version of the Guess Who several times...inferior to the original, but I love the music so much I had to attend...no time, no sugar tonight, albert flasher...great music...
I filmed about six hours of the concert. Many, many old bands reunited for Rock the Fort. problem is it is all on Digital 8 format and my camera died soon after the concert. I will borrow one to download in the near future.
sounded better in rehersal

The dynamic duo of Burton Cummings & Randy Bachman. Their history & hits speak for themselves, Also an excellent concert to attend!!!

One last comment, those other 2 musicians are replacable, but not Cummings and Bachman. They are he driving force of the band.
Back-up musicians are a dime a dozen, and can easily be replaced. You pay to see Cummings and Bachman who are the band.

Well, I think Jim Kale was and still is an exemplary bassist. I wish they would ALL reunite.
Just saying.

The audio recording is poor, this is a pretty sweet blues version of American Woman
Though Burton's voice has changed significantly since he was a young man, he still has great control of it though.

hatchetwounder> Last time he sounded like himself was 1974?? You never listened to
1975s Power In The Music album? 1976s solo
debut album which included Stand Tall? 1977s
My Own Way To Rock? Yes, he strains now. But the "voice" was around for MANY years after 1974!
