  • (cont'd) However, the correct thing to have done in her case would be to call the police.

  • @juliewasneverhere But he probably would've gotten away by then and/or away with the whole crime altogether. Look at Michael Jackson. Jerry Sandusky could've used a good shot in the head as well (Forget a stun gun.). "Coker" (1977) and "Kennedy" (2008) made only murderers eligible for the death penalty, so the death penalty is only for murder at present-- and at least Michael Jackson finally got divine justice in 2009.

  • (cont'd) In that case, that is what premeditated means. She planned it, simply. If she had not; if, perhaps, she found her nephew being abused and then pulled out a gun and shot the abuser, it would not have been premeditated, but since she planned it, it will be considered as such. Child abuse of all kinds is absolutely detestable and heinous and there is a part of all of us that would like to seek revenge on these terrible people who hurt our children. This would most likely end in perhaps the "righteous" deaths of actual wrongdoers, but also in the deaths of people with whom others have had a disagreement with, or who they suspect of committing crimes, or who they simply don't like. The death penalty is one thing; however, vigilante justice would surely cause havoc and much destruction. The problem with vigilantism is that is puts a lot of power in the hands of people and asks them to use their own judgment while giving them the power to murder other human beings. This would most lik

  • My view on the death penalty is this: It is not normal to commit heinous crimes. It should not be treated the same as petty crimes, like theft, which even good people commonly do.

Instead, we should acknowledge that the abnormal behavior comes from some mental deficiency - either an illness, or a social dysfunction caused by environmental factors. Everytime we use the death penalty, we lose an opportunity to study mental health; it's like saying, "We can't figure it out, so we'll kill 'em!"
