  • Lmao, ultimate rocker right there. Hes got the look, the talent, and so much theatrical presence. Going from guitar to some Mick Jagger deal in a manner of seconds. Also Lmao at the random scarf. And the whip, that was truely something of his own. Those black chicks need to STFU tho. It was bad when Yoko did it on John's records, Marc should have learned better.

  • Ending = ``Gong Show``

  • Gloria driving the car Marc died in was a fluke, and a miracle she didnt herself. It was a tragedy, not something she did on purpose.. its sick to hold it against her.

  • Gloria s very Obama like here, It's all about her and no respect!

  • This God Awful, can the back up singers go any further over the fucking top where they don't belong?

  • Blood it on, blood it on...!

  • Love Marc, hate the backup screamers!! UGH!!

  • and for those who say she cannot sing, she does a bitching acapella version of cosmic dancer... its beautifull, and not at all tone deaf... for whatever reason marc fans cant handle gloria.. Which is just too bad, she does soo much good, and is such a beautifull person.

  • @StardustMaeField the reason Bolan fans can't handle Gloria is she was driving the car the car in the accident that killed him. But their being together changed his whole life and he loved his son greatly. Cool for him that he found his own personal Ikette (not saying she was one-so don't send me a million replies).

  • @houseofgogo arg: they're being together, wrong use

  • Gloria Jones= Diva.

  • I meant may he rest in peace

  • awesome, nobody has heard how awesome this tune is until they hear Bolan play it......

  • that gloria and her soul sister ruined it

  • Great quality - is this ripped from the offical Midnight Special release?

  • Check out witch queen Bang a gong if you want to hear a Disco version of this already classic.

  • great bolan!

  • Those backing vocalists sound like harpies.

  • The screeching backing vocals and demented tambourines add nothing to this classic. What was Marc thinking?

  • I don't know why I like this, it's bolan so thats a good thing, a little bit overboard in some areas but hendrixesque with the whipping of the guitar and what. I wonder who thought of the dominatrix theme. somebody could get a couple pesetas for the boa

  • are the back up singers DRUNK?

  • Really, that's not what I heard!

  • He really hated that SG.

  • I wanted to add that Marc did stop using her on his records, and he was on his way back to sanity when he died. At this time in Marc's life he was doing too much, coke and liquor. He gained weight and this all happened under Gloria's "watch". My complaint about Gloria is that she did not have enough sense to tell Marc to leave her off the records. I saw them in concert in the USA around this time and this sound was not what the crowd expected and it did harsh everyone's buzz.

  • The skiiny backing singers trying to out shout Marc, is the girl who nearly ruined Marc's vibe on records, and eventually had the misfortune of wrecking Marc's car and Marc died. Marc almost never drove. Her name is Gloria Jones. She was pretty much a washed up singer who Marc has a crush on and eventually a relationship. Marc never divorce his wife, June Childs. Gloria ran off the other girl because Marc was interested in her too. Unfortunately, Gloria was tone deaf, but Marc loved her.

  • @DAVWAVE

Gloria Jones on her studio recordings is a at least decent singer.

She recorded the original or first performance of "Tainted Love" before Soft Cell, which as an oldie, was a hit in Northern Soul clubs.

REALLY bad female back up singers ruin "Viva!", the first live album by Roxy Music, this in comparsion is merely annoying.

  • ВАЩЕ БЕСПРЕДЕЛЬНО ЧУМАВОЙ МУЗОН!

  • the best live version i have ever seen

  • The chicks look like rejects from the Ike and Tina Turner Review!

  • Bang a Gong....it was called Get it On!

  • @highlandcelt1 Check your facts. It was released as Get It On in the UK, Bang A Gong in the US. This is a US performance. ;-)

  • @SameMarcChannel Yes but the poper title of the song is called Get It On, was only called Bang A Gong in the US because the American censors were so anal, they thought the song title was too suggestive, so it was changed. :-)

  • @highlandcelt1 It was changed to "Bang a Gong" to avoid confusion with the Chase song "Get It On" which was on the US charts in 1971, not because of anal American censors.

  • @Rikitocker But he looks fantastic!

  • I photographed T Rex in 1975 in Canada. To see the shots go to ianmarkmusicphotos (.com)

  • @mrianmark Great photos. A unique record of Bolan's attempts to break the Canadian/US markets. It was 1974 though as T.Rex never played Canada or the USA after 1974.

  • @andytrex Yes you are right. I think I was just tired when I wrote that. The exact date of the concert I photographed was Oct 23, 1974. I remember it because it was just a few months after I photographed my first Kiss concert in the same year. There is nothing like a devout fan to correct a mistake!

  • @mrianmark We can all make mistakes but we can't all take photographs like those in your galleries. Your T.Rex photos are unique. I've been a fan since 1970 and have never seen photos of the band in Canada. Thanks.

  • @andytrex Thanks for your kind words. There are a lot of die hard Rex fans out there. One fan in the U.K. sent me the concert review from the Calgary Herald dating back to Oct 23, 75. This is a review in which the writer gave Marc a bad time for chastising the audience for not recognizing Ban a Gong. Marc had improvised it so much that it no one recognized it as his hit song. I was blown away that a fan in the U.K. would know about the fiasco.

  • @mrianmark As you say, I'm a die-hard fan. I saw T.Rex in Glasgow in January 1974 and even by this time Bolan was rearranging his classic hits to the extent that they were almost unrecognisable. Thankfully by the time I saw T.Rex in 1976 the old arrangements were back and by the 1977 tour Marc Bolan was better than ever.

  • @andytrex This is so true.

  • If he would have do it like he did in the Paris studios, he would have been a big hit in the USA. This was tragic, really tragic.

  • Wow, I've never seen them like this. Thanks for posting! I don't find her nearly as irksome as some people in the comments (and maybe on the stage? the drummer?) do. I'm glad it's here to see, along with all his other songs and versions of this one.

  • ~Needs More Tambourine~ ; )

  • @MaidenVenus101

LOL!! Those sistah's are sure gettin' it on!

I'll bet that one gal has the kitchen sink up in that fro'?

  • @n8tureboy ~ LOL ~ I think they were all "gettin' it on" before they came out on stage! ; )

  • @MaidenVenus101

    Ahem!

  • @n8tureboy ~ it's just that they all seem so overly-enthusiastic about being on the Midnight Special!! I bet this was one of the longest performances ever on MS ~ although I do think Frampton's "Do You Feel Like We Do" was a little more than 10 minutes.

  • @MaidenVenus101

Are you sure that it wasn't Ina Gadda Da Vida (sp?) by Iron Butterfly? LOL!

  • @n8tureboy ~ I'm not sure if Iron Butterfly performed on Midnight Special ~ but if they did ~ that definitely would have been the longest performance.

  • @MaidenVenus101 haaaaaahaahahahahhahahaaaa

  • Someone should remove this clip from the archives and remove her from humanity. Her backing shouts resemble a crack fight in the middle of a subway with jerry springer as the referee.

  • @Chilli0912 No, it is a part of History, and Marc did recover, the problem is he kept Gloria around, even though she was not in the band. As we all know she managed to run his car into a tree and Marc died, She did flee the country shortly after the car wreck. A sad ending.

  • I will say that Marc Bolan loved Gloria Jones. But why the heck did he have to let it sing in his shows, and worse on his records. I am glad to see others commenting on this. I have been guilty of blasting the poor girl, but unfortunately she deserves it for her horrid singing. It wasn't always horrible, but many times it was.

  • @susie: Marc's widow is June Child they were not divorced, because Marc died before the divorce so Marc and Gloria were never married

  • @rexmania77

June was in the process of divorcing Marc when he died.

The night he died, he and Gloria were returning from a party at a club where they had just announced they were going to get married. so it is said.

  • blimey - the funky guitars at 5:30 are a nice surprise.

  • Gloria can't sing worth shit!!

  • @oneartist9 He was too cheap to pay Flo and Eddie, and it cost him the USA market.

  • Yeah! Shut that black bitch!

  • @oneartist9 :

Too damn right... who the fuck let her in!!

  • @Chilli0912 Wow, I saw them live in the USA and those happy hookers were their. It was bad alright. Honestly, it is why T-Rex flopped in the USA.

  • @DAVWAVE :

Poor bloke...I'd have kicked her arse good and proper for that performance.

  • @DAVWAVE agree! poor Marc

  • @Chilli0912

    Marc by his choice.

  • Its sad

  • I always appreciate any Marc Bolan/T-Rex performance, but man, this wasn't their brightest moment... by far.

  • GLO SHUT THE FU*K UP

  • @imalovedrunk why did she have to sing with Marc?

  • @DAVWAVE

Kind of a silly question. No one got on stage unless Marc wanted them there.

  • How far along was the chickie in black? The only way I'd paint on an outfit like that with that tummy is if there was a bun in the oven.

  • Everyone was so fucking 'high' it didn't matter what they sounded like,,, I miss those times

  • love this!thanks for posting.

  • Those girls are banging those tambourines like they're back in church! Hey ladies....it's not even Sunday!

  • Comment removed

  • Those teeth are heffed up beyond belief before Marc came on....

  • About all I can say is wow. What a showman Marc B was! Is it wrong that I thought it was kinda hot when he flogged his guitar? He was so special, such a shame he left us too soon.

  • Spinal Tap, you've got nothing on these guys ...

  • When was the last time you saw a REAL performer get down on stage like that, screw AND whip and punish his Ax and blow something up? Musical 'Eargasm!

  • Those chicks were well out of it. And Pat Hall can't even hit a tamborine in time. Did she have no idea of the terrible racket she was making?

  • villamuelas forever LUIS¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

    T.REX impresionante sin duda

  • villamuelas forever LUIS¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • What really irritates me is the slow responce of the google/youtube netwoork. Don't you have enough hardware to serve your customers or don't you just care!

  • The greatest rock n roll video ever made!

  • Saw them a few months earlier during their German Tour, without the back up singers. Once they arrived on the scene that was it and this great band was on their way down. Marc Bolan was unique in his own rights, but like so many others should have recognized the writings on the wall. But he didn't and so became a parody of himself ,utterly pathetic and grotesk.

This performance shows the beginnig of the end.

  • @atzengruber

I just must to dissagree You! This Camp-like perfomance was not the beginning of the "END", just a showcase to have a fun! He made a lot of a good music after this and he was no way going "under", there were many tracks after this that were "unique" like "Rapids" from the album "Tanx". He was just having fun like most of us sometime should do. Nevertheless, he really was something different!

  • @pollenprognoosi

++Agree ! "Tanx" was his last great work, but this performance came afterwards and it was downward from then on...

  • @atzengruber

Was it really so? Anyway it wasn't just downhill for Marc. He got his moments even later times - dont'ya agree!

  • And what can we learn from this experience?

    Never share cocaine with girls...

But all in all: I'm deeply impressed by this performance. By this person. And by what it stands for.

  • @diehippiemaus For real? Is it cocaine that's making them basically sucker punch that tambourine that never did anything bad to them?

  • love this video I have the Midnight specials and I dig those girls on the tamborines they are rocking!!!!!!! Another why the BEST music came from the 1970's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks for the video now i need a time machine

  • 04:09 YEA YEAAAAAAA

They don't make em like this anymore kids

  • Who are the guys at the beginning who inroduce the act?

  • @mickeyismyname Seals & Croft.

  • Wow. This whole performance is shockingly great. Those gals can really work those tambourines!

  • OMG. that backup singer is the best! I'd like to hear her sing this lead hahahah. aesome footage. phenomenal. rocks more than The Doors.

  • Wow!!!!!!!!!

  • This is what's missing from music today: Live performances where the music is actually live and not a canned track with lip-syncing.

Maybe not studio perfect, but real, raw, no holds barred, rock-n-roll :D

  • shit version

  • MARC IS SUCH A TALENT,BUT HIS LIFE ENDED SO TRAGICALLY

  • #PLAYLIST

  • fuckin love this this version

  • I like the tambourines and the back up vocals. Gives it the feel of a tent revival.

  • Comment removed

  • I saw T.Rex do this live in Folestone back in the 70's, I was lucky enough to grab the tambourine, and still have part of it today :-)

  • Gibson SG played with tamborine + yellow feather boa = orgasm.

  • Before there was Prince, Bowie et al there was Marc!!!!!! Hey listening to the female backup I don't feel so bad...

  • bah ekelhaft der hat sich ja angezogen wie ne transe!

  • crack whore ruins it

  • @cmcgarth1O ACTUALLY ONE OF THOSE "crack whores"WAS ROMANTICALLY INVOLVED WITH MARC BOLAN!!!!! ie GLORIA JONES!!!!!

  • That's his second wife on the right side closest to the drums.

  • they were never married :(

  • Brilliant video! So much electricity between them, they are SO talented. Thank you for putting this up. I LOVE it!!!!!

  • Yes apart from the clothing that was as good then as anything now. Had he stuck around he'd sure be awsome today. Joins the list of inventors in my book a true child of the revolution

  • Superb!

  • Much hating on the girls there, I thought they did a great job. Could have used some different clothing, perhaps =P

  • Love it! Marc Bolan <3333333

  • Brilliant performance!

    Delf n Kaz x

  • screw the tambourines, bring back the baritone sax...just how much coke have these ladies had?

  • @lowspark68 isnt one of them his widow? I know he married a backing singer after his first wife

  • @87susie No, he never married it. He had chances to divorce June, and put it off. The song he wrote right before he died..."Soul of my Suit" was about June Childs.

  • Comment removed

  • Brilliant!

    Delf n Kaz x

  • god, it looks they all had a pile of coke before going on stage...and it was the chicks' first time.

  • Stronking fun packed performance by the band!!!!!!!!!!AWESOME!!

    FUN ROCK!!

    Delf n Kaz x

  • The black chicks dont rock but Marc and the boys sure do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • great song, great band, chick in the red wasent too bad either lol

  • That's why Marc hooked up with her, had a baby with her, and ended up dead with her behind the wheel.

  • i guess Hendrix started at Monterrey and Marc had to join in...

  • cinema bizarre remixed this song eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep

  • sack the backing singers

  • LOL! Half the time, it looks like the drummer's thinking: "give it a rest with those bloody tamborines!".

  • We saw T. Rex around this time (1973) in Long Beach, California. Think it was a few months later.

They were a great band to watch live!

Marc's voice was so unusual, when you would first hear it in person - it was quite shocking! It was so distinct and unique. Unforgettable.

Will never forget the way he would smile at the audience.

    Mickey Finn was outstanding also!

This was right around "The Slider" album promotion time.

    T. Rex was one of my favorite 70's concert memories.

  • Stunning video! Marc could put on a show like few others!

  • Thanks C for the share I have always found this clip very interesting!

  • Clive, actually this was 1973 so I was only 3 years old but still rocking.

  • Lead; Marc Bolan

    Drums:Bill Legend

    Bongos: Mickey Finn

    Bass Guitar Steve Currie

Backing Singers : Gloria Jones/Sister Pat Hall (Cosmic Choir).

    Backing Guitar: Jack Green.

  • @StudioResurrezione1 Sister Pat Hall was hot then! Hot!

  • Great song T. TREX !

  • Bolan and gang hamming it up for all they were worth! SUPER!

    Delf n Kaz x

  • PS PS:

this performance originally was longer - the part where Bolan joins Mickey Finn on congas was edited out for the final broadcast, as you will notice the cut at 6:26 ...

  • PS:

well done splitting the sound to two channels, works extremly well, especially hearing both guitars seperated starting at 3:52 ...

    Thanks ;-)

  • glad you noticed! :)

  • Unfortunately USA was not really ready for Bolan and his glam back in 1973...

    -------------------------------------------------

Just 18 month later the world saw the birth of "Disco Music" with all kind of these glittering fanrasy costumes.

And don't forgett: KISS had still to arrive, too ...

  • Well some of us in the USA were ready!

We saw T. Rex in Long Beach in 1973 during "The Slider" tour, and will never forget that concert!

He did a very similar version of Get It On/Bang A Gong the night we saw him.

Love watching this clip. Brings back great memories.

P.S. David and Angela Bowie were in the audience that night. They wound up having to watch the concert from backstage because they were too recognized to sit amongst the general audience.

    It was a great night!

  • When I first saw this clip with Gloria and Pat I didn't like it, but the more I've seen it I REALLY like it a lot! The sound mix is a bit off but this is really a great version. I recently bought the CD issue of Gloria's "Share My Love" album and it's great! Does anyone know what's happened to Pat Hall? I can't find anything with a clue as to where her life lead her. Great video!

  • @anothertominohio I've wondered too what happened to the singer. Hopefully we will find out. I've watched this numerous times and it is outstanding! I love seeing Marc and Gloria interact with each other and the chemistry is palpable. They made a great team! I've never seen Marc so happy, energetic and completely at ease. Bravo!

  • british rock icon wurz x

  • Really outstanding performance as always from the main man himself!!!!

  • Wish they did more than two songs for this particular show!...........SHOWMANSHIP SUPREME!

    ROCK ON MARC!

    Delf n Kaz x

  • in the words of Herbie Flowers... "my favourite performer!"

    WoW x

  • Marc IS music!!

I would have caught the tamborine and the boa...and gladly knocked anyone out to get them hahahah xXx

  • Marc is your's...but Mickey is MINE!! hahaha

  • Sorry,you have to Share!!!

  • Ohhhhhhkayyyy!! lol

  • Love it!!!!

  • Wow! So much energy from everyone on this. Tanx for sharing.

  • I love this performance,Marc is FINE.

  • Dig Mickey...trying to move with some soul!!! hahahahaha

  • Absolutely lovely!

  • Marc IS Magic - 5 stars
