I had a Rover (bubble shape) and me Head Gasket kept on leaking, then my pulley idler disintegrated resulting in most of the 16 pins breaking and damage to the piston. Needed another engine, nice shape but the 'K' series engine was very poor and generally substandard. The older Honda engine was far more reliable. Rover, once a great family car has become cheap and nasty - I wouldn't even consider them now.
The Rover 214 Si 1.4 is famous for its acceleration from a standing start which means that the Si (Standard Fuel Injection) engine is doing its job in generating the torque needed which then creates the wheel spin seen at the starting line, so that Rover 214 Si is a good wee car and should stay as far away from a scrap yard for the next few years as far away Britian is from Australia.
yeah, i replaces mine with a 1.6l Land rover gasket, it's more than the dogs bollox.
I've recently added a new cat converter to mine and added performance bit and pieces. It's not a Rover 200 any more, it's a Rover rally car cum bat mobile.
ouuijja wats your problem? the headgasket is also a problem on vauxhalls the same age. i am a mechanic, and own a 1.4 why? because its fun to drive and the speed is fantastic
rovers have 1 of the most powerful 1.4 engines to date (corsa - 80bhp) (106/saxo - 75bhp) (fiesta - 80bhp) rovers are hellish! lol, 1.8 16v with 149bhp!!! no turbo!? brilliant, such torque.
But the Audi is 1980 model while the rover is 2000:)

one time i use to ricing with bmw 1.8 and i won....
