I typically don't carry much gear like you said- it gets the attention of crowds. I think you have to go to a place where there is little going on and thats hard to find. I just hand hold my flash at times and shoot a couple of pictures and then move on.

@ericrap012 They each have their own purpose. But longer lenses are usually used for portraits.
