  • @lucelva I have that same problem! D:

  • I turned off the sound and could still imagine the music by her expressions. God she's amazing :)

  • What a superb talent!

  • I have to do this song for my final in like 5 weeks

  • @tentenlovessasuke i do too.. sucks man.. cant hold my breath for that long.!! :(

  • I love her voice and her emotion while singing this song, but isn't her voice a little breathy? I was always taught this was a bad thing. Is that just a Baroque thing?

  • @arlecchinasaurus

well, she is not in her bast, vocally speaking. try to find older things of hers - I think she used a different technique when she wad younger or she is just loosing it but she had this dark, amazing color

  • @liatma1 Oh, I see! Thank you. :) I've been looking up versions of this song because I'm singing the medium-low voice version for my class. This is by far the best recording . . . she's absolutely stunning.

  • @arlecchinasaurus

    good luck :)

and yes, she is - even now that she doesnt sound that good she is amazing. .

  • Best inerpretation in the world!!!! Only Cecilia can!!!!<3<3<3

  • Man...I generally hate baroque music. But this performance is hard to deny

  • NaSpA PIESA!!!

  • this is truly stunning. i cant get enough of her.

  • delicate...

    I like this Amarilli..

  • She has such a powerful and clean voice. Love!

  • 38 idiots!

    ahahahahahahahahahahah

  • she mad my eyes tear up singing this beautiful breath taking arrangement

  • A little too operatic a performance for my tastes. But one has to really be bad to screw up such a beautiful little gem.

  • Grazie mille!:))

  • Perfetto! I could listen to Cecilia forever.

  • Que hermoso canto!!!

  • .................................amazing

  • Richard Miller is said to have hated her technique, but she certainly sings with real heart which is lacking in so many divas...

  • This is so beautiful! Thank you so much for posting it!

  • I LOVE her, no lie, BUT I really wish she would loosen her jaw. Her sound would be so much bigger and not as forced. But, like I said, I LOVE HER!

  • O.M.G. That's HAUNTING! Absolutely magical voice!! WOW.

  • Davvero brava, Cecilia, grazie

  • Incredible, amanzing , fantastic!!!!!!!!!

  • I love this woman, this was the first song I sang in my school of music and I will always remember her for being the one I listened everyday to learn the song.....

  • God I wish she would come perform in America...

  • I also feel she rolls her "r"s too much, but her sentiment is marvelous! What a grand singer!

  • makes me wanna cry

  • This song isn't nearly long enough! I could listen to her sing this song forever...

  • isn't it supposed to be "dubitar non ti vale"?

  • @UncleTito72 That's what I thought too. I only know this song because I once sang it for an audition, but I was surprised when I didn't hear that lyric.

  • @XinBiDe Interestingly enough, she uses "dubitar non ti vale" in her recording of the aria. I don't know why she would change the lyrics for this performance. Perhaps she is using a different edition of the aria? Beats me!

  • @UncleTito72

She is using a slightly different edition here, supposedly it's just a little more challenging even though it's only the one phrase that is different. Still, it's a beautiful, heartfelt aria. Im studying it currently for a solo festival and i've fallen in love with it,

  • @ Buona fortuna!

  • @UncleTito72 There are two versions, "Prendi questo mio strale" (take my arrow) is the original, actually, and "dubitar non ti vale" (don't doubt me) was added later, as it wasn't as graphic or offensive to the sensitivities of the time.

  • @UncleTito72 i think that the original version is how shes siniging it,she is ofcourse romanian and she should know more of the italian language herself since shes lived there

  • @UncleTito72 hehe I know this is a very old comment.. but I know why... at some point it was censored.... because the original lyrics that Caccini used had prendiqesto mio strale (ok I forget spelling) which are the ones Bartoli is singing means: take my arrow.... some one clearly considered that to suggestive XD

  • @UncleTito72 I've got both versions.

  • @UncleTito72

depends on who performs, some choose "prendi questo mio strale" (I thin it means take this arrow of mine)

  • @UncleTito72 "prendi questo mio strale" were the original lyrics, but they were changed, because they were considered too explicit. It speaks of literally carving open one's chest with an arrow to see what is written on their heart. I use both when I perform this, using the "prendi questo" on the repeat. :)

  • @UncleTito72

caccini wrote what se sings. people changed it to du bitar non ti vale because what it is in itlian.

  • The 24 Italian songs are completely redefined when sung by artists like Cecilia Bartoli.

  • Beautiful beautiful!

  • beautifully done, but a little too slow for the proper time measure. i'm learning this with my voice teacher at the moment for a competition and she showed this to me.

  • Simply Amazing.

  • two people used the unoriginal "X people" put down

  • 35 deaf people and an increadible interpretation!

  • 33 people missed the like button.

  • beautiful, just magnificent

  • wow just wow

  • Wow, just wow!!!

  • che brividiiiii

  • Diooooooooossssssss que interpretacion!!!! increible... Grande cecilia!!!!

  • when she sings 'dolce desio'....I, for one, believed it! She is amazing.

  • seems like she's a member of the nda tribe

  • 33 dislikes are u kidding me cecilia is awesome!!!well i guess every diva has haterz!!!

  • @mathcounts234 yes the rolling is a bit much. I was so distracted by it, I didn't focus on the song at all :-P

  • where I can find the hole concert?

  • @hellainhell

In a DVD - Cecilia Bartoli - Live in Italy (1998)

  • @hellainhell try Courtney Love

  • @hellainhell whole, not hole.

  • Esas notas valen oro!

  • i love how she keeps true to the original sheet music by keeping it super free, all these other arrangements enforce timing and a strict pattern.

  • 1:09 those arent the words Cecilia wut happened to dubitar non ti vale... I HATE HER lolz... absolutely beautiful her voice is as stunning as her physical beauty

  • @taurus51491 i think theres two versions...probably an original and a newer one. this is the way i learned it too...Prendi questo mio strale. :)

  • 1:09 those arent the words Cecilia wut happened to dubitar non ti vale

  • Amo, amo, amo questa canzone!

  • Espectacular!

  • Phenomenal singer. Truly, she is amazing. But... she breathed wrong a few times. Please, don't kill me.

  • @Michaelad567 Lol, she's amazing. I say she can breathe wherever she wants, lol. xD

  • La amooooo!!!! O.O

  • You can always tell Bartoli knows the words she's singing, in whatever language she's singing in.

  • Thank You!

  • Best version of this song on youtube so far, all the others just like..Belt it out. Good job =)

  • Un'interpretazione prodigiosa!

  • How does she control the air??? even at ppp she sounds so clear!!!

We can feel / hear the sound floating around. Wow!

  • Amarilli, bella mia

¿No crees acaso, dulce deseo de mi corazón,

  • I honestly don't like Bartoli too much, in particular her disgusting Baroque coloratura barking. Awful!

But this song is absolutely great. As you say, magical! Thanks for sharing.

  • favolosa!

  • beautiful!

  • Cecelia Bartoli, my hero :)

  • I prefer her version the best, but she does tend to produce a lot of airy sounds, for some reason, which is not necessary, and a full sound would be just great.

  • Her voice is so expressive in this live performance, the recording is also heavenly. Nobody sings with so much nuance and detail. I am a soprano and I try to sing her music as a warmup. HA! No One sings like her

  • Way too much schmaltz.

  • @kkallebb

    Schmalz isn't spelled with a "t".

  • what key is this in? thanks

    btw. she's a goddess. :-)

  • @anasta2d It is in g minor (one flat in the key signature).

  • @anasta2d It's in g minor. 2 Flats in the key signature.

  • Fantastic!!

  • I'm singing this in my opera class... it's truly a work of art.... makes me cry at the same time :'( But I still love it <3

  • Regardless how many time I listen, she makes me cry with this aria! :'((

  • Mi fa piangere!!! Gloriosa interpretazione!!! Woooooow

  • wooooooooooooww............!!!!!!!!!!!!! after i had heard my friend sing this i was astonished,i didnt even need to sight read it,i just heard this by cecilia and i already have it down.except for the ending 8th notes...lol im so inspired and excited to sing it at my northridge audition =] i have a year til then but im still excited lol.....i love this song,

  • CECILIA !!!

    Come sempre.....FAVOLOSA !

  • Perfeito...

    Arrepio!

  • I don't speak Italian, or know any, for that matter. But this piece speaks to me. I can feel every emotion she sings, without having to hear the words in my own language. It takes true talent to sing a song and affect other's emotions. Especially, when you can't understand a word. Expression in vocal performace, truely does make a world of difference.

  • Phenominally expressive. Excellently trained. I'm considering this piece for a recital.

  • same :)

i have 5 performances of this coming up :S

  • @moshingbutterflies. I am singing this at my recital! good luck!

  • i love this. absolutely beautiful!

  • wauw

    wauw

    wauw

  • meraviglioso.......

  • her rendition is gorgeous, perfect, but I think she could do without the faces she pulls at times.

  • Most beautiful Amarilli ever. Cecilia is an enchanting angel.

  • Amarilli, mia bella

    D'esser tu l'amor mio?

  • maybe her technique is off at some points, but I'm sure this is so historically accurate or at least reminiscent of what Caccini heard during his time.

  • She does a very intentional 'mia amore' at the end. I even detect a wink. You go, Girl!

  • Ooooooh im singing this in a church on 25th Feb :)

    Cant wait...sooo excited.

I hope i do this song as much justice as Cecelia.

    Her voice is so stunning.

    <3

  • This piece is of the heart, and so her interpretation is beautiful, and that includes the way she uses her technique. If you observe her other pieces, you can find her use of the technique and artistry as one is impeccable there as well.

  • im doin this with my voice teacher now

  • It seems to me that she was a bit sick when she sang this.

  • closed vocal chords: a good example how a mannerism can take over and become a technical defect. the dicition is good, the vibrato debatable.

and please, guys, if you reply to this comment, try to remain on the level of objective discussion. thanks.

  • Agreed, the piece itself is wonderful. Heard it performed by some semi-pro in the country last year. Much better than what bartoli does here, adding here own stuff. Still enjoyable tho :)

  • she has horrible technique

her songs are beautiful, and her ornements the best i have EVER heard, and i think she is one of the most stunning female opera singers of the st century, the only thing is her technique isnt perfect. She still gets the notes and everything perfectly though...

  • @no1phantomfreak so how is her technique horrible? her tone is IMMACULATE and she has perfect pitch, she usues her soft palatte, and shes using her diaphram, shes obviously doing SOMETHING right because shes famous.... your not. So you have no right saying her technique is horrible.

  • Im not saying shes bad. NO WAY!!! shes my favourite singer!!!! Im just saying the WAY she gets her notes isnt what the majority of teachers would dome right. I still think shes amazing - horrible was a bad word - strange is better?

Never think for a second i dont think she is amazing

  • Not all you say is true, a baroque trill can also be back and forth, not only a repetition. e.g.

the Fitzwiliam Virginal Book (comtaining music early as 1570) shows examples of shaken trills written out; Purcell mentions different ways of embelishments; C. Ph. E. Bach also list embelishments in his famous essay.

The "breathy pianos" are more a matter of artistic freedom a performer can choose to do, or not, than a technical "miscapability".

  • Divine.

  • wow. she is definitely a musical artist, this is the first i have seen of this singer...everything she does is for a purpose...so very controlled. i like the breathiness in parts, i think it actually adds to the drama of the piece...really really great.

  • oh my god, she is so passionate. this is one of the most beautiful songs in the world.

  • An historic trill. Ornamentations and technique have evolved throughout the centuries just like music has.

  • oh and her trills have gotten faster. its so much fun to walk in a different room and listen to how fast they are

  • @LtothatBoogie funnily enough this trill is most likely not historic. i suspect that since bartolis voice was trained for bigger halls, it is difficult to keep it as agile and flexible; it requires more strength to fill the space. richard wistreich elaborates on these singing techniques in the cambridge companion to singing.

  • Cecilia at her best. I love her piano tunes most.

  • i have to sing this in voice class, and i absolutely love this version, wish i could like that

  • me too

  • @ actingXownsXyou

    dont we all

im doing it too for my th grade exam, and the junior champion ship

my singing teacher played this for me, and then was like "your turn" i felt like such a fool, coz i sounded so crap next to her

  • mezzo soprano?! Ma come?! Che brutta versione! Dov'e' finito il barocco?

  • Elemosino per differire.

  • I don't know any English word which would be strong enough to express how extraordinary I think this is...

  • master

  • love the dress

  • ToT!!! I was learning to sing this song!!... but I moved to other city and I have never learned...

    lovely... really lovely

  • breath taking

  • I love her too! Beautiful song, beautiful singer!

  • OMG, that was perfect!

  • Her voice reminds me a sweet flute... I love her <3

  • She is a beautiful singer.

  • heavenly!

  • Abre meu peito e verás escrito em meu coração: Amarilli és meu amor.
