what's the average home price here in Oak Park....???? I llive in L.A. now but thinking of moving back to Chicago....I used to live near 47th and Ashland...now thats GHETTO.
And sont tal crap .! Oak Park May not Be the Ritchest or the nicest neighboor hood but we got sum Dope ass people around der .! Im from Oak Park 42 street .! We aint lukin at oak park as a poor place we luk at it as our home town .! Oak Park Till Dee End .!
Wow That brought back some memories, I did a little painting on one of Wright's Home's 31 years ago N W side Chicago ave. Oak Park, ILL. I Miss it there !
And how about that! I'll be damned If we don't have a shooting right on the corner I just mentioned. Isn't history great? How is that liberal handgun ban working out for all of you Oak Parkers? Don't ya' just love a town so full of "Modern Culture" and politically correct thinking?
Oh, and by the way, would anyone care to tell me what the current life expectancy is for anyone bold enough to take a midnight stroll down Roosevelt Road at Austin Boulevard? Think you might be able to live long enough to make it to Toppers on Austin and South Boulevard without getting knifed? Perhaps if you did you could buy "King Da Ka" a drink at the bar while dancing to the beat of "Who's Dat Lady"? Nothing like owning a multi million dollar home just a stones throw away from such "culture".
The true "beauty" of Oak Park, Illinois is you are only 72 hours away from lousy weather, and 4 blocks from a $h!thole that needs renovating. Yeah, they love the FLW houses you can count on the fingers of one hand, but travel south of the Congress Expressway and look at the overpriced bungalows that need everything but the kitchen sink before you can move into them and survive a Chicago Winter without crapped out plumbing and heating systems that Columbus brought over on the Santa Maria!
I have lived in Oak Park for the first 9 years of my life. I fucking loved that place, and then, I moved to California. I first lived in Mountain View, and then San Jose (which were pretty decent), but now I live in the shitty Santa Cruz County. I really wish I were back in Oak Park, because that's where I really fit in.
@SebastionBishop Oak Park belongs in and to Chicago as intimately as Frank Lloyd Wright himself did. It couldn't be anywhere else. It was Wright's sense of the expansive landscapes of the midwest that inspired his work here. They aren't in Illinois or the Midwest, they are OF them. Just like Wright.
Hey, while you are there, could you do the Sears ready made homes? I think they are in Illinois..They are SOOOOO cool. You could see if you could tour individual homes. And then what about some "shotgun" homes? There are tons of them lined up on 85 going into Charlotte, NC. I would LOVE to see those houses...Thanks :D

@MrChiRockk I used to live in Oak Park and its not too expensive but most of the homes are older which require lots of repair.

@fueledbymusic3468 Yes, it sounded like she did pronounce the "s" at the end of Illinois. I reacted to it the moment it came out of her mouth.

Oak Park just seems to me like it really doesn't belong in IL. It belongs on the east coast or west coast.
SebastionBishop 3 years ago
interesting..ive never heard that before!
Ucheb 2 years ago
Except for the fact that Wright was a Midwesterner.
Decidedly NOT east coast, nor west.

Carlinville, Il is the largest concentration; they basicly built the town out of them. Downers Grove is runner up, I belive.
However, stop by any established suburb, westbound on Ogden, and you will find a plenty.
