When you do a bigger piece that takes several hours and you have to do 1 half and then the other are you keeping the first half in the kiln till your ready to weld them together? That has to take like 15hrs right?
@SEKSHINATE each half is several pieces already put together, and yes, it helps to have a kiln to keep it hot, if you look up the degenerate flame off you can see some sick stuff and they have a 10 hour time limit
@tigermonkeydragon Awesome thanks dude, I'm trying to figure boro out I just got a torch that can handle it.Ive been doing soft glass for about two months now and am really interested in mastering both soft/boro the only prob is is that everything I have learned has been off of youtube Southcentral Pennsylvania is far from the culture Capital of the U.S. so finding other heads hasn't been easy.
if you want to get into real glass blowing it will run you about 250 for a torch and then another 100 for tanks and hoses and then another 150 for some glass and tools, oh and a kiln will start around 250
you can melt glass for maybe like 50 bucks but you will have a 50/50 chance of all you're stuff cracking and also that 50 was just to start, you wont be able to maintain working for more than a week.
you HAVE to anneal anything that your selling unless you dont want any more money. you cant blow glass pipes with a 15$ torch you dumb ass id like to see you blowing boro glass with a soldering torch lol yeah you need vent and even boro glass is more than30 bucks if you intend on actually practicing enough to even make a pipe.
Okay "Buddy" Learn a few things about glasswork before you try to correct a pro! only significantly larger blown pieces need a kiln and thats only for moretti(COE96) glass. Not as essential as most people think. Although most people use alot of special tools, I have found pliers to be satisfactory. Don't be a punk you dumbass. To those intrested in glass and not being punkfuckers, first try simple pipes, when you get good offer them to your local head shops for sale.
Sorry to knock you off your high horse, Mr. Pro, but you need to google 'Annealing'. Not to mention the fact that pipes will crack if they cool down too fast. Ventilation also comes in handy so you're not breathing in dangerous toxins from burning metals.. Ohh, and those expensive Dydimium glasses that stop you from going blind staring at the sodium flare from a torch roasting borosilicate into molten fury.
again with the dumbfucks! what i offered with my first post is a cheap way to try something i love. What i suggested was 15 to 30 dollar propane torch. which clearly can not "roast borosilicate into molten fury" and does not need dydimium glasses retard. You need to google "annealing" moron. it is only neccessary for significantly thicker glass and is NOT NECESSARY!!AND I DIDNT SAY A THING ABOUT FUMING!!if you can find and oxygen/propane torch for 15$ i will give you my a million fucking dollars!
I have that job, Im a pro glass artist and I love it, I encourage everyone to try glasswork at least once. Pipes, beads, pendants, sculpture, whatever.. You can get started with your average
hardware shop torch and some glass for around 30$. peace and love my friends.
well you will need a torch, they sell small brazing torches (bernzomatic) that will get glass just hot enough to work.If you want a step up look at the "hot head" torch-$30.you will need some tools, pliers, ect. and of course you need glass. There are two major kinds, boro and coe96.with the two torches i mentioned, try coe96.If you want to work boro, which is stronger, more vibrant, and is what pipes are,you may want to look into a oxy-propane torch which will b a SIGNIFICANT investment.
your looking at like 750 for start up cost. that will get you a little torch tanks hoses and regulators, and glass and tools , but the you need a kiln which will run anohter 500+
nice, dude has a cc plus
