@wayne2ooo8 No. I know it isnt fast. My C-10 pickup with 454 and 4.10s is alot quicker. It also uses an assload more fuel and I dont know if it would pull as good as this will. Its a tossup. This engine has 10 ft lb more torque than the 454 but it is in a heavier truck with higher gearing. However this engine makes its power at a lower RPM and through a wider driving range.
@6detroitdiesel5 Who cares about the horsepower numbers. Chevy has a stupid aluminum block that doesn't hold up, and both chevy, ford are v8 and make just as much as the INLINE 6 Cummins. The Cummins is better no matter what you say, nor do you have any REAL facts, just stupid mileage stories. Its on how you treat them.
@6detroitdiesel5 I know a 1993 cummins motor that has almost a million miles with no rebuilts and gets its oil changed once a year and still running strong, so up yours.
@6detroitdiesel5 I love the 6.5L (own 7) but as far as outperforming, maybe with a stock cummins or stroker, but hop all of them up and our favorite little motor is left in the dust. the 6.5L is coupled to the best automatic out there though. a hopped up 6.5L is still cheaper than buying a stock 7.3L or 5.9L, so as far as bang for the buck, the 6.5L is definitely the king, but on a limitless budget, the 7.3L and 5.9L will win the performance race.
Just toclear myself up I didnt mean it was shitty I meant that I know the truck is not meant fr speed I mean its pretty good for an old diesel truck but its still slow but im not trying to talk shit about your truck.
lol at redline at 4k. I'm just used to imports revving to 9-10k. But i know, apples to oranges right? i bet it makes hella torque through all 4k rpms. I love every kind of vehicle, each is special in its own way. Except the pontiac aztec, that can suck my dick lol.
@chillincruisin Actually redline is 3,400. I dont know why it goes to a dotted red line at 3500 and a solid red line at 4,000. Anyways the computer limits the revs to 3400 (the start of the dotted red line) but it will hit the speed limiter (95mph) at only 2700 in overdrive so it runs plenty fast. This engine produces almost 400ft lb at only 1,800 RPM. Thats awesome power compared to most gas engines, but unfortunately its nothing in the world of diesels today which are at almost 800ft lb now.
I'm going to defend a fellow 6.5er here. Mine has 300,000 miles and is still. it has no problems at all so whoever says they are junk is full of shit. People think they are cause nobody knows much and they dont take care of them right. When a 6.5 maintained properly they will last forever. no these things were not made for power but there are mods you can do to get them to move pretty good and they will outpull any gasser out there. Next time why dont you get your facts straight
This is slow as shit. i have experience w/ 6.5s and they suck. my friends broke the crank clean in half as they are known for doing. they were garbage throw away motors. also if you are serious about the 10 second 1/4 mile you are fucking dumb. 10 second 1/4 mile would take around 800hp out of a diesel truck, a 6.5 makes under 200hp. Dont post numbers if ur this fucking ignorant.
@joshwright89 When did I EVER say anything about a 10 second 1/4 mile? You are the truly "fucking ignorant" one. Also if you believe the 6.5s suck and that they are known for braking cranks and that they are garbage then this makes you stupid. They only break cranks if you let the harmonic balancer wear out and dont replace it until "something breaks" (as in the crankshaft). Thats not the engines fault, its the moron that doesnt take care of it. For example, your friend.
@joshwright89 And another thing, considering the enormous size and weight of this truck and the fact that it is well over 250k miles on it now (with no work mind you) i'd say it does pretty damn good. Also it has 3.42 gears. Something most diesels dont have. This hurts its performance as well. Also note in the description that it has tons of stuff in the back AND was pulling a hill. My truck is no slower than the majority of vehicles on the road today.
And also I can say that I HAVE outrun a few vehicles with this thing WHILE i was pulling a trailer. Thats not bad. And for what its worth its 190hp @ 3400 rpm and 385ft lb @ 1,800 RPM. You cant get that from a gas engine hardly. And you can get 300hp and 500+ ft lb with a 6.5 with better fuel mileage and longevity than a gas engine. You are truly stupid and misinformed.
i got a 99 suburban 2500 with a vortec 454 with 4.10 gears and it has so much torq and speed. i pull my 30 foot enclosed car trailer with it and it drives like the trailer isnt there all toghter with the car the trailer weighs 9600 lbs the max hitch weight is 10,000
@Joeyad4 This thing would be so much better with 4.10s. I drove my C-10 today that has a 454 and 4.10s and it was so much more snappier. All in all tho I am not at all unhappy with this thing tho. I pull probably 6-7k with it (actual weight unknown but I know its alot, 1650# trailer with 330 gallons of water on board @ 8.29 #/gallon is 2700# plus all the other equipment on it, its a pressure washing trailer so there is a p/w, heater, generator, accessories, etc.)
@torque395 the 454 burb is obviously quicker snappier faster etc compared to the 6.5 diesel burbs even if they both had 410's i myself am a 454 kinda guy but if your lookin to save money on fuel look at the diesel the 454 usually averages between 7-12 whereas the diesel will average 10-16 mpg just throwing that out there
Its a suburban. What do you expect? 10 second 1/4 mile? You do realize this is almost a 7,000 pound vehicle right? Its luxurious, not fast. Also, read up, well over 200k on the whole truck, never rebuilt, tons of crap in the back, up a small hill and with 3.42 gears. I think its pretty good. Now It has new injectors and a gutted catalytic converter. Big difference :)
@canttouchmymopar Never said it was fast. Not bad for a 14 year old 7,000+ pound chunk of steel rolling down the road up a hill with weight in the back and a quarter million miles on the clock. Lets see your "mopar" do that. The way dodges are, you're lucky to make a quarter of ONE mile before breaking down.
@torque395 Ok, I see now you have enough trouble with people hating on your video I probably shouldnt jank on it anymore I know why its so slow but you know if post anything on youtube you have to have people ready to piss you off. By the way my dodge ram 360 has 280,000 going strong with no problems so you shouldnt hate dodge either.
@1997DodgeRam360 Dodge sucks thats the bottom line. And you show your ignorance calling a 6.5 a duracrap LOL! Its not a duramax nor is it "crap". Dodge is crap. Cummins is crap. I'll take a chevy, gas or diesel or even a ford gas or diesel over a dodge of any kind any day. Dodge is just 100% pure SHIT.
@1997DodgeRam360 dude you are dumb as fuck, mopars are a joke man, there trucks are oil burnin, rusty pieces of shit, i mean if you want a truck thats going to rust out in a couple years and go thru 10 trannys than thats cool i guess.
@1997DodgeRam360 My truck is 2wd so YES its IFS. And my trucks already seen more mileage than you pos dodge ever will lol. My truck still has original wheel bearings and rear brakes for christ sake. Its a GOOD truck. Doesnt need worked on ever day like a damn dodge.
@torque395 wtf? my uncle dodges has almost 500K and it has the original tranny and engine. Just the usual requirments were changed so I don't know whose dodge you know of that needs worked on everyday. you're dreaming.
@torque395 i would hope you'd have more mileage... most diesels do. I like chevy's too but i'm sure the Dodge cummins would outlast any chevrolet 6.5.
@canttouchmymopar I have rwo 7.3 diesels, one being a powerstroke, and one being a IDI non turbo, and the powerstroke has 485LBFT of torque at 2500 rpm, and red line is a 3800, but it rev limits at 3200.
Take into consideration the 6500# base wight, 3.42 gear ratio, 242,000 miles (now) never had any major engine work done including timing chain or injectors which DO make a big difference, and should be replaced every 100k miles plus a stock 2 7/8" exhaust, no intercooler, running up a hill with assloads of weight in the back. All things considered it did really well. And FYI the 6.5 is a pretty good engine if you take care of it, but if you abuse it, you're gonna pay for it. Then its your fault

compare it to the other diesels. The ford 7.3 and the cummins were 10 times the motor then the 6.5 in those years. when the competition is that much better that makes the 6.5 suck even worse.
@arxc600 the 7.3 was indirect injected up until the powerstroke came out. There were two 7.3s, one being a IDI (pre-powerstroke) just like the 6.5. Also the 6.5 was very comparable to the cummins and powerstroke of the same years. The 6.5 is a great motor and i'd take another one in a heartbeat..
I have a '99 6.5 turbo diesel Suburban with 177k miles. It's funny how these engines pull LESS the higher in the revs they go. It's like above 2,800 RPM's, it just makes more noise and goes slower. I kind of wish the automatic wouldn't take it to redline when flooring it, and just short shift it to keep the RPM's down where it pull harder. I think peak torque on these engines is around 1,800 - 2,100 RPM's.
its a diesel. its supposed to be like that. you don't tow about 2800 rpms so they put the torque curve down low for grunt when towing. for highend power you need alot of fuel and a decent amount of air like my cummins! its done making power at 3200 rpm but it will go to 3600 but its useless.
Peak torque is at 1,800 rpm, but peak HP is at 3,400. ALL engines LOSE power the further above their peak torque RPM, it just happens faster on diesels since they have a low RPM range and produce power at very low RPM. Take a look at dyno charts, after an engine hits its peak point, the numbers start dropping off, but it may continue to speed up until the engine isnt making enough power to keep it from revving any further.
