I consider it a gentleman's muscle car. Its a little heavy to be fast in stock form, but with a few minor mods to the engine and it is plenty quick with gobs of torque.
I agree with you, Bill Mitchell was the GM head of design for both. its only considered a muscle car to those who have driven one. I remember as a kid riding in a family friend's 71 Riviera in a metallic lime green with white interior. Unforgettable! Would love to own one today.

it combines both presidential car and sport style.
from a rear look it has giant Corvette look.
