I'm sick of grade schoolers talking about Sundin making a selfish decision. The guy was our captain, our heart and soul, the man we turned to when times got tough. After all his years of dedicated service, many 'fans' decided to show him respect by offering him a one way ticket out of town. Not only is that disgusting but it's very pathetic. Perhaps if the team was managed properly there would not have been the need to start 'rebuilding', especially one which started with our best player.

When offers were made sundin refused to waive his clause because he didn't want to leave, one would think that he would want to stay right? WRONG!!!!! He then goes and signs with the canucks. A great Leaf and a great role model, however this was a selfish decision that will hurt the leafs in the long run.

Now true to Leaf fashion, the team will win just enough games to miss the playoffs by a few points and cheat themselves out of another top draft pick.

Sundin should have been traded for a first rounder and a top prospect and they should be playing Raycroft and the kids to finish last for a chance at Stamkos. But alas, in true leaf fashion we'll end up with nothing.

Are you kidding? This team WILL NOT make the playoffs. They have to start re-building for the future, and that means talking to Mats re a possible trade. He needs to have dialogue with the GM about possible cities he would want to play in. Treat him with RESPECT, not like what Kevin Lowe did with Smythe. Tell him you will re-sign him during the off-season. The Leafs NEED prospects and high draft picks, not foolish dreams.

Fire Fergie now! Get a new EXPERIANCED GM in his place. Sundin will bring a premium on the trading block, a smart GM will get a great deal. The season is over, forget about "captains" and "leadership", and start thinking about the future. Optimism is nice, but realism is now called for.

Yes, but Philly had tonnes of great looking prospects. They also traded Petr Forsberg for 2 prospects and three draft picks! You can't compare Toronto w/ Philly.

I'll cry when Sundin goes. It's likely gonna be next season anyway, if not this one. Sundin is getting old, and as of right now we have a future of simply mediocre players. Fire JFJ.

Yes, you are right. I hope they fire Fergie soon, so a competant, experianced GM can handle the rebuilding. Draft picks and prospects are what Leaf fans should want. There is no possibility of buying players in the new cap system. We are all going to have to be patient...like 50 years patient.

They should also try to trade Tucker, Ponicarovsky, Bell and Kubina. They are all over-paid, but not to the extent where they are still not attractive to legitament contenders. The new GM needs to free up some salary room, and get some draft picks.

Getting scoring players in return is not what trading Sundin is about. In return we should receive high draft picks, and a highly rated prospect or two. This trade is about the future; 5 years and more from now, not this season or even next. Realistically our dry-spell will likely reach 50 years.

As a life time leafs fan I would hate to see him go but as a BIG TIME Sundin fan I would love to see him get a cup, what we would get for him would be good for the seasons to come as well. He's never seemed interested in being a rental, we'll have to see.

Bob McKenzie is spot-on in this segment. Fergie needs to talk to Sundin and tell him that the Leafs will re-sign him after this season. This is for the better of the team. Just don't handle it, like Lowe handled Smyth.

I hate to admit it but, mackenize has a point, i ould think even if the leafs didn't make the playoffs, ferguson if he decides to waive sundin's no trade clause that would probably be the smartest move the man has ever made in his life.
