Never heard of this guy. When I was little, you could hear this kind of music in Appalachia, just on our back porches. Seemed like a lot of people played, not like now. There was more of an interest in regionalism. Now everything is so radically "federalized" that there is no real culture left in many places, lol--- a bunch of "consumers" and "box stores," and so on.
Love this song. I'm gonna learn it on fiddle at some point. I live not far from Riley, maybe twenty miles but I've never met him would like to jam with him some day. My brother has at one of the conventions I think the one in Mt. Airy.
Love it! I love this song and you two are great together. Looks like alot of fun jamming on the deck way out in the boonies. Is there any instrument you can't play?? : )
I had the privilege to talk with Riley Baugus a few years back when he was on tour with Dirk Powell and his cajun band "Balfa Toujours" here in Sweden . I spoke with hin briefly after the concert. Such a nice and warm hearted guy!! He even let me try his banjo!!
I love to hear some beautiful music on some handmade instruments from NC keep the Appalachian spirit alive, your music touches my soul, please don't ever stop.
I wish, I wish my baby was born And sitting on its papa's knee And me, poor girl And me, poor girl, were dead and gone And the green grass growing o'er my feet I ain't ahead, nor never will be Till the sweet apple grows On a sour apple tree But still I hope, But still I hope the time will come When you and I shall be as one I wish, I wish my love had died And sent his soul to wander free Then we might meet where ravens fly Let our poor bodies rest in peace
I watch and listen to this Video every day. I wish I could play my Banjo with such empathy and be gifted with similar vocals. Soulful, haunting and absolutely brilliant. Many thanks. STP
Anyone know of a version played in this style with female vocalists? I found "modernized" remakes which i didn't think much of, but nothing like this.
@mkmckune I found some lyrics that seemed to have come from a womans perspective and would like to hear it from a female vocalist also. If you find it let me know.
That is a a beautiful song. I'm a big fan of "old timey" mountain music. Part of its beauty is its simplicity - the harmony in this song is its icing. I wish Tim would come play in Knoxville TN some day. We have the Tennessee theater which would be an excellent venue.
awesoooooooome i god i love it so much. i really wanna buy some CDs from Cordelias Dad but here in germany i didnt find them so maybe i have to look in the internet, that will cost alot from america but id pay everything :)
@batfancy thats living life. im looking to buy a piece of land in my hometown in Nova Scotia. i love your music and voice. i first heard you on the cold mountain soundtrack and been a fan ever since. i especially love your amazing grace rendition on the banjo. Love from Canada. God Bless
@USMC1861 Yeah, I hear you. But we just kind of went for it- not much to put in tabs if you know what I mean. You can sure contact Riley about the tuning he used- that would be a good start.
Wow pretty amazing.. Talk about a multi talented person. You yourself as well to be able to play so many instruments. Great video of what this music is about "Sitting on porch and playing good friends"
Tim, Your video style is all over this with the short walk around the garden and the zoom on the bees at the end. Nice playing and singing with Riley.
The simple truth...........
