Ah, Mali... a great african civilization. Mansa Musa was a truely enlightened ruler in a time when they were very few. I wish the Mali of today a much greater future!
I saw on a tv programme recently that Timbuktu was not always the impoverished backwater that it is today but was once a seat of great learning. A sort of African equivalent to Oxford.

I can understand if your talking about the Arab terrorists, but you really shouldn't generalize Arabs as a whole. Many are wonderful people who can't do anything under the control of their powerful leaders.
I saw some Nigerian women the other day. One was literally putting two fingers in one nostril. She looked like Frank Bruno and her voice could upend a London bus!
Mali would be the perfect country for vacations if there was a sea instead of part of that sandy desert

I agree Timbuktu would have been nothing without the Arabs. Even now it looks like a pack of mud-built dwellings collapsing in the desert.
