Thx for writing - the vid is about a road trip I took, and we drove past Annawan right when the song lyrics talked about have 'won', and my name's Anna....so....Annawan...Anna won.
Hard to describe, as it was such a personal moment. I recall driving some ways and then seeing that huge bridge. How far is Annawan fr the Mississippi?
very touching video, Anna. used to live down in vicksburg, ms. when i was a teenager. your pics of the mississippi brought back memories of my time there.
Hi Gary - I'm so glad it brought back memories, which, one can surmise, were good ones! It really knocked me back when I first caught sight of the Mississippi. Powerful, iconic.
Thank you!! BF just slays me. Flying to Austin on the crazy chance I can be at the world premier of the doc film on him. I'd be happy just to sit in the lobby, as those with SXSW passes will fill the theatre.
Great video Anna, what a trip that must have been! When you get here, come hang with us at Maria's Taco Express, whether for Happy Hour or breakfast, you have to eat at Maria's! Can't wait to meet you! Ciao
Woody, I'll be there with bells on!!!!!! Can't wait to meet you too...omg, Austin! Yep, that was one awesome road trip. Would do it again in a heartbeat, hopefully with some of it in an 18-wheeler!!
Christy, same here. Fell in love w/ this man, dead exactly 20 years ago tonight. (Shot to death in Austin). I'm so into him and his music that I'm in the early stages of planning a Blaze-O-Rama North. There's a documentary on him being premiered in Austin in March, and I'm going to just up and go to try and see it. (It'll be in the SXSW Festival). You will definitely meet me one of these days, Xhrissa mou!!!!! Thanks v.v. much for Faving!!!
That was fantastic!!! BRAVO!!! Got me misty eyed, fur sure. Five stars and favorited!!! I fell in love w/ a dead man. That's a first for me. I wish I could have met Blaze. Perhaps, if I am lucky, one day, I will meet YOU. Thank you for this awesome video!
Stunning.. I watch this and think about how you are such a free spirit, so many claim to be so few are. Your soul is deep, something makes me want to know more about you, a bit mysterious I guess.
Steve my man, without the complex deep ones to see such things, one might as well be shallow as a puddle. Your words are much appreciated, and humbling. I'm probably the strangest mixed bag of assorted nuts & bolts you'll ever meet. And one day, I do hope we catch up with one another. Lots of stories! Swap you mine for yours!
"....luminous connections...." Such as this one, with yourself, Bill Dumas, Kathy, Craig at Lost Art Records, Marsha (Blaze's sister who also loved the vid.....Blaze moves in mysterious ways! I SO wish I was there on Sunday. If emotions were a river, I'd have enough to float all the way down to Live Oak Cemetery. Gonna be there in spirit. Put a little stone by the word "poet" for me please. I'm sure you will all find the music and voices to sing hello to Blaze. Safe trip. Enjoy it all!!
Anna, thanks for posting this beautiful memoir. Brings to mind my own solo roamings of the West, doing the driving meditation, and the luminous connections with fellow travelers that arise. Sunday we will gather and maybe pick some guitar at Blaze Foley's grave site on the 20th anniversary of his death, and I imagine that his voice over this lovely collage will haunt me all the drive to Austin.
Hoped you would! Yes, he is. Dedicated, eyes on the horizon, and by the time we got to Idaho, he was making me laugh so hard my knees would buckle, then his would go. Truck stop & restaurant staff didn't know whether to call security, or join in. Thanks so much for sharing in the ride.
"Almost"?? Right. Somehow I think that's Newfieguy code for "I wept openly". I sure as heck did while putting it together (and living the moment!) But we won't tell anyone, LOL! Tanks bye!
Thanks sooo much - the song gives me shivers each time I listen to it....and when I think of that amazing trip. Like RT said, "If ever there was a natural dividing line between one's past and future, you just crossed it!" I'd been having a "moment' that ended when we passed Annawan, then crossed the mighty Mississippi....it's going to be a chapter in my book! SO glad you enjoyed it!
Two years now. Still takes my breath away, especially now that it brought me to the man I said Yes to.
