Sharapova's comment was that European tennis fans really cared about the game of tennis and liked watching the volley but American tennis fans only wanted to see aces, making us sound like a bunch of wankers. Maybe she felt bad because she can't hit aces...?

Lately she has struggled with her serve, no doubt because of the shoulder problem, but she normally has a very good serve. As far as her comment is concerned, I think in general European fans are more knowledgable about the game than American fans. In any case, I hardly think her comment constitutes "crap" talk. She is normally very good to all her fans, including Americans.

How can you say that? There haven't been any surveys done. Is the game so complicated and American fans so lacking in attention span that we can only appreciate a good serve? That's what she's saying: that we're unsophisticated and inferior to European fans. It's anti-American sentiment and I think it stinks considering she had to come to America to get to where she is today.

I know of no survey that says this. However, professional tennis is more important to European sports fans than to Americans. Most Americans sports fans might watch Wimbledon and the U.S. Open, not not much else. I really think you are taking this one comment way too seriously.

guys...calm down...It is a fact that Europeans value tennis on AVERAGE more than Americans...therefore they know more about the intricasies of the game...its not American bashing, its the truth...I went to the French Open ladies final this summer and I can say first hand (as an American) that the fans in that stadium as a whole knew ALOT about tennis...get over it...

I see both points here, but I kind of agree more with the American side...non-Americans come here WAY more often to perfect their tennis than Americans go elsewhere to do the same...America has produced more great champions than any other country

Graf, Federer, Hingis, Henin, Laver, Court, and Borg all stayed loyal to their countries...Navratilova won little as a Czech, and Seles won one of nine as a Yugoslavian...

Aside from them, everyone was pretty much American...I'm sure I missed a few.
