I can accept Captain Jack being the Face of Boe. What I don't understand is that he claims to be the last of his species. How did he manage to change species? And if he did, did he become a species already in existence, or was he the first and last of his kind?
Well it's clear that he mutated, but The Face Of Boe also had children and the aerage lifespan of Boekind is 40 years, but een in his mutated form Jack was still...well obiously not immortal, but could ressurect himself multiple times. So if every other person of Boekind died, he's the only one left. So I'm assuming in short, Boekind are just a mutated form of Human's
It makes so much sense now. The four final words were "I am Jack Harkness". He says "old friend" because they (the Doctor and Jack) were in fact, friends. And he says "You are not alone" mainly because Jack still lives in the Doctor's life, but also because there are more time lords to find.
WARNING WARNING WARNING! There are spoilers ahead! As I was saying, Captain Jack is the Face of Boe. He has lived for millions of years after seeing the Master in the episode Utopia and is now telling the Doctor. In Utopia, the Master is hiding as Professor Yana, and Yana stands for, "You Are Not Alone". In this, Captain Jack is the Face of Boe, and he is helping the Doctor.
To the people who have not seen some of the Doctor Who episodes...
WARNING WARNING WARNING! There are spoilers ahead! In the episode Utopia, the Doctor remeets Captain Jack Harkness, who has absorbed some of the Time Vortex from Rose and now can not die. He is immortal. The Face of Boe here says "You are not alone", and by this the Face means the Master. Why does the Face of Boe know this? Boe knows this because he is Captain Jack Harkness.
@LFC007Matt JACK hasn't met River, when he's still going by Jack. Billions of years is a long while, He might have met River when he was slowly becoming the face of Boe.
@MsMoonfan4ever I did say 'yet' you know - Of course Jack will meet River it's inevitable - I can see it happening in Series 7 or the anniversary definitely but the Face of Boe back in Series 3 was obviously referring to The Master
@LFC007Matt No offence, but I don't think you're thinking fourth dimensionally. By the Doctor's timeline, River Song hadn't been introduced yet, making the easy answer that it was just the Master that he was talking about. but in Jack/Boe's timeline, at this scene, he'd already met River, when the Doctor had not. It would make more sense if he was referring to both.
@MsMoonfan4ever Well that's assuming that he will meet River but anyway enough of that, yh it would be a nice surprising twist if he was actually also referring to both but that remains to be seen
Jack cant die andten even confirmed it. He is a permanent point in time thus he can not die. If jack turns into boe (he can still age) he may have resurrected much later because if you remember at the end of the first season of torchwood he kills abbadon by letting him absorb his life force thus making it seem like jack dies, but days later he comes back to life. This means the more straining his death is the longer it takes to come back , so that could mean boe simply came back a bit later.
@GH3MAN2 it has not been confirmed that he is truly immortal. There is a chance that it is just very, VERY difficult for him to die, but now that he has lived a million years, that would make it easier for him to die.
I really like The Face of Boe". Even more After finding out who he is.
I hope that "The face of Boe" will be explained more.
"You Are Not Alone"= YANA = The Master
It kind of make one wonder how "The Face of Boe" came by this or if he was/is responsible for "The Master's" memory/personality containment. Afterall Martha knew this trick and could have told Jack.
Perhaps Jack forced YANA to the end of the universe where he would be no danger, at least until The Doctor came and fixed him.
As a Torchwood fan and not really one of Doctor Who, though I have seen maybe four episodes of Dr Who, but can anyone please tell me why the face of boe is so big? Does Jack get bigger and bigger? Can someone please answer that?
@milkz349 no one knows..yet however I have a theory. I believe that as Jack ages he loses some of his regenerative ability until he finally dies. So I think he chooses to maintain his head, and brain which contain his memories and experences collected over his billion years of life. At some point he focuses his energy on this. Plus he would need more brain cells to store it all.
Just my theory.
By the way, I just watched season 4 of Torchwood. Please say there is a season 5.
The way I see it, Captain Jack is "immortal", meaning he can never die. In which case, he shouldn't die here. He might appear dead, but I reckon if he is Jack, then he'll come back sooner or later. Immortality means you can't die, and the way they make it out on Doctor Who, there is no exception to that, especially for Jack!
jack is not the last of his kind if u watched torch-wood at the end of the new season a member of the team had jacks blood inside of him and they turned the world back to how it was and then that person got shoot they all thought he was dead then he came back to life that's because he had jacks blood inside of him
@mrmadhousevideos Look at Rex. Then Jack, then the face of boe. Then Rex again. You still certain the face of boe is Jack? :P Theres a whole season or 3 missing that could bridge the gap :3 SO, This means, that Jack died anyways before Rex's death, which makes sense since Rex is alot younger.
@Heartwing13 because he is the only immortal person alive. also, this episode takes place in the timeline of the universe after the events with Cassandra, which means that there are no more "pure humans" which would technically make Jack the last one, even if he is just a giant head now.
He's the last human, so that does make him the last of his kind. We learn in the Series 1 episode with the woman who was just stretched skin with a face, that all other humans had evolved or mixed with other species. So that works, although hearing it, you originally think that the Face of Boe is some sort of ancient alien race.
Such an inglorious final death for the great Captain Jack...
