  • Hi had sciatica again a few weeks ago this exercise worked a treat again and was up n about in a week to the usuall 8 weeks it used to take to sort its self only my sciatica was down my left leg instead of the usuall right side and has also left a bit of a numb felling from my knee to my toe on the left leg can you help please?

  • Great video! Thank you! I've had unbelievable neck problems for years culminating in a c5/6 discectomy with fusion in 2002. I've been blessed to never have low back problems. Until today! Suddenly I'm driing and I have terrible sciatica pain in my right butt cheek. It gets progressivly worse and approximately an hour later my calf muscle is tingly, tickly and weak and my ankle is totally numb. The whole damn leg is numb. I cannot imagine what would cause this and I'm very worried. Help?

  • thank you so much for this - I was in much pain 4 and a half years and could not afford a back specialist. The pain was so bad that I had a lapse of sense and attempted suicide in January. I just could not take it any more. Luckily my son found me and called an ambulance. The nurse at the hospital recommended this video - I tried the exercises and within 4 days of doing them, the pain was almost completely gone.. after 2 weeks I feel no pain at all. In a way - You saved a life with this video.

  • Check out Dr. Hal Martin, he operates piriformis arthroscopically and has great success rate compared to previous methods. I am trying to get the word out and hope other sufferers do also so this becomes more main stream!!!! Tell your doctors, look at the improvements with surgery in only the past 4 years, lets keep it up!

  • I just tried this and it worked.

    Strangely enough, I got my pain from doing yoga (probably forward bends, from the waist). But the first exercise is actually a yoga pose, the pigeon pose. And the second is also very similar to a yoga stretch.

  • i have had a six week sciatic spell and dhc, ibuprofen and naproxen arnt helping. first time trying both these excercises and it definately eased pain for a short while. will try to do this 3-4 times a day. many many thanks

  • Is a pins and neeldes feelin on ONE side of your body (for me left) a sign of sciatica? The pain is constant. My left leg also feels weaker than the right. Is this sciatica? PLEASE HELP!

  • I'm giving this a bash, I'll try anything to get rid of this pain. I'm a full time carer for my dad (who's paralyzed from chest down and partially sighted ) and I'm always on the go and lifting him/turning him/ajusting him. I suffered from sciatica last year and it lasted about 5 weeks, but I'm sure it's this piriformis thing and nothing major, I'm getting the pain at the left side going down my left leg and into my knee, so I'm going to try this and see how it goes.   • For two weeks I've been experiencing horrible pain from my hip all the way down to my feet. I went to the doctor etc. Took celebrex..IBp...no luck. I just tried this out for a few days twice a day...I feel 90% better...Unreal! Thanks doc.

  • Great stretch and exercises. Adding head movement into your 90/90 exercise can increase movement of the sciatic nerve as well. This can also be done seated too!

  • could be a dangerous position to get into if the sciatica is simply coming from a bulging disc at the spine... too much flexion... although a great exercise if it is coming from the piriformis (a small percentage of people)

  • @warner003 Not entirely true. Although patient selection is obviously critical, in most cases of stenosis, degenerative disc disease, disc herniation, etc, this exercise can be used as the piriformis is often tight in this patient population.

  • This worked for me, had numbness and lower back was hurting, walking bent forward, after a massage a couple of pain pills and doing this , I was like new , after a nights rest and doing it a few times the next day..5 stars, I tried everything only this worked...

    I've been limping and groaning in pain for the last week...I was making involutntary *ouch* & *ahh!* sounds.

    Im pregnant and have been so disappointed in the severity of the pain that i had to give in and take tylenol 3s, as of right now im not going to take them any more and continue with these stretches as they are relieving me more than the pills without putting any strain on my baby

  • This is very useful. I was in AGONY the whole morning with Sciatic Nerve pain.

    I can feel this exercise does the right thing. It has already given me some relief. With repeating this I think I can slowly stretch up piriformis muscle in the next couple of days.

  • @AustinPowers215 If the piriformis is very irritable, it can light up the sciatica. A less aggressive stretch is advised or, if the pain persists, injection therapy is often advocated. Check out my other videos @PainReliefSecrets

  • This is absolutely ridiculous exercise being demonstrated by people who have no real idea beyond theory what's involved with real sciatica.

    This is not addressing the real issues at all but the good news is that people in this sort of pain will try this once and unlikely continue with it anyway.

  • This is an amazing exercise. I have saved myself many chiropractic visits since I started doing this stretch. If I feel the sciatic pain, I do this exercise a few times a day until the pain is gone. Sometimes it only takes two days.  And feel some relief immediately.

  • That's easier said than done when the pain is so strong you can't even lift your leg.

  • @xxFlghterXxx Possibly. I've used it on patients who have had a diagnosis of coccydenia. These people had, in addition, a tight piriformis and the exercise was effective. Check out my other videos @PainReliefSecrets

  • Pigeon pose. Notice how the spine is kept long. she did not drop off to her side. Very important!! Liked the added excercise after the pose.

  • That first stretch is amazing! Really really helps relieve the pain, providing your not having an attack, then of course just rest and do stretches like this when your in recovery. Cant reccomend this enough.

  • I've had Sciatica for the past 6 years but over the last 6 weeks it's got worse.I thought I'd try your exercises.Did them one day,felt ok.Did them again the next day and my back ceased up.I'm now in 10 times more pain and I can't walk properly! I wish I'd never tried them at all.

  • @JohnnyBlitz77 If the piriformis is very irritable, this exercise will not be effective and may well exacerbate the symptoms. If this is the case, injection therapy is preferred

  • Genuine Piriformis Syndrome is VERY VERY Rare! First you have to r/o the L/S and then other structures.

  • as an update , I've been doing this before I go to bed and when I wake,this is helped tremendously!! unreal something so simple can help that much! I've been to the point I almost couldn't walk! and this exercise has done wonders! I've even noticed I take deeper breaths now, maybe because I'm less tense.THANK YOU once again!
