if the scenario is made of tiles and the character moves always to the center of tiles (like Final Fantasy on the SNES) then you don't need complex collision techniques, only check if the next tile already contains an object or impassable terrain before allowing the movement. I can't appreciate in the video if the character stops always in the center of a tile or if it can stop anywhere.
