Really, Bert is my all time favorite Sesame Street character, and I always wondered how he put up with Ernie. I guess if you love someone enough you can put up with their annoying habits.
The picture of Bert is a bit too grim looking for me. It especially doesn't blend when Ernie sweetly says "that's a lullabuy". Though I will say that, if I remember correctly, this clip was one of the first steps in my realizing that waiting until tomorrow really isn't so bad. I was just a kid, after all, and when you're in that age range, twenty-four hours seems like more than twenty-four years.
I remember this clip. I had this on one of my recorded tapes that I sadly no longer have, but it was the newer version with the music added. It's great to see the original clip the way it was first shown.
So cute

Ernie, you're obsessing again..! I don't think this is healthy.

Oy. This gave me the willies. Bert isn't answering him! It isn't the same at all! Please wake up, Bert!
Does this remind you of anything?

Am I the only one who thinks that this is incredibly sad?

Ernie's Bert impression sounds a lot like Jim's older Muppet voices. I love it.
That first annotation - I can really picture Ernie saying that.

Ernie's night time conversation here seems so innocent and adorable.

ayb Caroll Spinney. He's such a great artist too. Kinda doesn't feel the same without Jim Henson on set today.
