There WILL be times of high traffic when installing extensions becomes problematic or even impossible, but this happens to me on my paid hosting as well. I assure you that I have installed MANY extensions on free 000webhost sites, including CB, Fireboard, Hot Property, etc. Installing from zip takes longer and so fails more often than "from directory", but you say you have tried that. But, "from directory" is tricky, so are you sure you were doing it right?
recovering a password is 100% impossible as the password in encrypted. What you CAN do is simply click the "lost password" link in the log-in section and have a new password sent to your admin's (your) email account.
There is no need to have any files in your public_html folder: the files that were there to start an be deleted as they serve as nothing more than a welcome message. Make sure you delete the database and re-create it as well.
DUDE you need to have some newbie people in front of you that have never done this before, like me, and do this whole video over again. I can't figure out what the heck you are doing, and I've been at this for 4 hours.
good question. By default, joomla articles are created in a wysiwyg (what you see is what you get editor). The first thing to know is that this is just a plugin and that there are better ones, namely JCE. If you want to script HTML/Javascript you can hit the HTML button and then you are good to go. BUT, sometimes this messes up code, so I actually run WITHOUT a wysiwyg editor by turning it off in global configuration.
What you CAN'T do is script PHP. YOu need a plugin for that. I use the Sorcerer bot (there is a module too). Also, because when you script you dont actually add the html and body tags, how to you write javascript in the head? Again, another plugin. I use jostag.
So...
turn off wysiwyg, get sorcerer for php, get jostag for javascript head code.
excellent tute...except one thing...attempting to install component but receiving this error message. * Warning! Failed to move file. * JFolder::create: Could not create directory * Unable to create destination
...even tried to install via "from Directory":
error message- * JFolder::create: Could not create directory * Component Install: Failed to create directory.: "/home/a5899542/public_html/components/com_morfeoshow"
When trying to install an extension for the first time, install a simple template or simple plugin, NOT a component or module. If it works, then you know the problem is with file permissions on your host and so will had to chmod the offending folders to 777 (just to be sure). If it doesn't work, which it propbably won't based upon your particular error, the problem is an incorrectly set ftp file system layer configuration in global config. Watch my other tutorial on how to set it.
..with finnishing your installationguide I got the message "JError XML-RPC Server not enabled.", if I try to go on my created "website". Did I do something wrong? and if yes, what???.. Or what should I do, to get the website running???
That is a VERY non-standard error. I suspect that some files are missing. Unfortunately you will have to start again, which really isn't that bad: I can do a manual Joomla install in a couple mins now that I know what i am doing. You will have to delete the DB and re-create it and delete all Joomla file/folders (do this in the host file manager and NOT via ftp). Also, if you had to do the zip trick, THAT is where the problem almost certainly is. Redo it, take you time, and use winrar.
...okay...I deleted all files, downloaded the same package (but this time from an other server^^) in did all the other steps, explained in your tutorial. now it works!!!! Jear.... maybe the file was damaged at the first time...
this is on joomla 1.5.3. Joomla is now at 1.5.5. I'll check it out right now, but I seriously doubt that the FTP config has been removed. It was in the OLD Joomla, 1.0.x, that there was no FTP in global config. Maybe you are confused? I will check it out right now and confirm.
Yes, I just installed Joomla 1.5.5 on 000webhost and it is exactly the same as I demonstrate here, including configuring the FTP file system layer on global configuration. I fear that you are using the old Joomla 1.0.x, or that you are not clicking the Server tab in global configuration to get tho the FTP settings.
WOW. Thanks that actually work. You really know a lot about joomla. I am 15 years old and I just start learning joomla and I will be very happy if you give me your email address so I can ask your help when I have problems with it. Also I am wondering if you know a good source of tutorials and templates for joomla. Thanks a lot your my hero!!!
Thanks for the quick response. I solve that problem but I get another one when I try to enable FTP. That is the new error: JFTP::connect: Could not connect to host "127.0.0.1" on port 21
Hi alex I have a problem. I stuck in the ftp settings, I do what you do but I get that error: An Error has occurred! Unable to open configuration.php file to write!
Make sure to access the site via ftp, and edit the properties of configuration.php (right click > properties). CHMOD the file to 777. configuration.php is NOT very complicated, nor does it need to be modified routinely: only during setup really. So, make a backup of the file ("configurationORIG.php"), and then try editing the original configuration.php file directly. Pretty much everything should be set up already, except for the ftp configuration section.
Hey is there anyway you can upload mods that are too large to free server then have them work? I tried to upload jevents. I split the files up in zip files, but could find a way to get it to work once on the site. If there were a way to zip up files from the Cpanel, I think it would work, but couldn't find how to do that.
Your tutorial worked perfectly for me, even though my site is hosted by a different provider. Only thing that I had to change were some file permissions (777) in order to be able to install other templates.
WOW! That is ALL I can say! Not many people actually set aside some time to go so in depth as you just did. I mean 2 VIDEOS just on one thing is amazing.
O O. That did NOT work. Don't be afraid to try again; it took me a few tries to figure it out. Now I can do it with my eyes closed. Delete all the files/folders AND delete the database and try again. MAYBE it could be salvaged, but if something went THAT wrong then it is simply a better idea to NOT risk a corrupt installation that will cause problems before long and to just try again.
The video is great... thanks. I have one problem. I can't log into the user manager. It gives me a Restricted access error. I can get into most of the others but some I can't. I followed the video to the T. Thanks for your help.
yes.......Front Page Manager, Media Manager, Menu Manager and User Manager I can't get in. it gives me a message of Restricted access. But all the other selections I can get in.
I did a bit of reading on it, and I cant say that FOR SURE this is the problem, but I suspect your installation is corrupt. Either some files did not manage to get transferred, or some people have suggetsed that for some reason the included windows unzipper is corrupting files.
I'm sorry but you will have to try again...
Delete the files AND the database
Start again, download and use winrar, MAKE SURE you include ALL files.
I have never used jftp, BUT in looking up the error it is clear that LOTS of people that use jftp end up with this error. I encourage you to try a different ftp client (you chould have more than 1 anyway so you can narrow down the source of errors). I use core ftp lite (free) and I NEVER run into problems with it. Only when core ftp (or another ftp client) can't connect will you be able to deduce that the problem is with the server.
Your how-tos would be greatly improved with one simple adjustment. Try to verbalize the step you're performing BEFORE you actually do it. It's hard to follow what you're doing when you take the step and then say what you just did. Thanks for en excellent, timely how-to.
I understand what you mean, but I had to compromise. Youtube videos can be no longer than 10 mins, and even in this case I had to split it into 2 parts. Any more than 2 parts (20mins) would simply be too much for most people so I have to move fast. NO ONE will be able to follow this in real time anyway, so I explain what i do while I am doing it so people understand exactly WHAT I'm explaining, and then they will have to rewind and follow the step, and then move on to the next one.
you mean you want to use a domain that you have registered elsewhere? When you make an account at 000webhost you can specificy that if you already have a domain. You can do it afterward too, im sure, but I havent done that yet. The more difficult part is forwarding the domain FROM the registrar. Fir that, simply ask your domain registrar to do it for you if you dont know how.
The only problem is that you will have to fix
Joomla's "home" link to explicitly point to yoursite . com / index . php instead of just
yoursite . com. This is easy to do in the menus by simply creating a new
menu item, but can sometimes be harder with some plugins like the
"breadcrumbs" ones that may require you to edit the php files directly to
fix them.
alexwestconsulting 3 years ago
did it work on 000webhost?
The answer is to use a .htacess file in your site root. If you dont
alreay have one, just simply create a new file called .htacess. In that
file you place this line:
DirectoryIndex mynewpage . html
where "mynewpage . html" can be anything you want. Your site will now
default to that page.

I've tried to use 000webhost for Joomla 1.5.6, but some reasons I couldn't install mod_s, bot_, etc. zipped files neither upload folder like this:
/home/a3634715/public_html/bot_JoomlaFCKeditor2.6.1
I'm not sure it is depends on free or paid case.....

That is, FIRST try CHMODING it and then setting the FTP setting in Joomla, IF that doesnt work, do it manually:
var $ftp_enable = '1'; //enables it
var $ftp_host = 'yoursiteurlhere';
var $ftp_port = '21'; //standard port
var $ftp_user = 'my000webhostid';
var $ftp_pass ='my000webhostpassword';
var $ftp_root = '/'; //type exactly that
