We did two nights out. We started at White Grass, hiked up a XC ski trail to FS 80, then went north to the Dobbin Trail. Took Dobbin to Upper Red Creek, then East a bit on Blackbird to get to Red Creek Trail. From there we took Breathed Mtn trail, but we lost it and ended up camping who knows where. We knew generally where we were, and used a topo map and compass to come out right where we started (luckily).
YO the sods has some of the most unpredictable weather ever. I have a friend who was camping and it snowed over 2 feet in one night. Luckily he haad dogs with him that he had to bring into the tent for warmth. LOl looks like you all had fun. Since you were in the area did u make a trip to the purple fiddle? Def check it out if you have never gone.
Man, Im sitting here on a Sunday night with a snort of Scotch in my belly and a hankering for nostalgia...God that was an epic journey! Looking forward to Mt. Rogers! Cheers....
how did you get your fire going? very challenging in cold wet weather!

Look like fun, but I prefer the serenity of summer backpacking at the Sods!
