  • this was a fab game remember it well

  • Love this song. Gorgeous.

  • inb4 egoraptor

  • I really used to love this game

  • brilliant game, brilliant music

  • A very clever piece of musical writing on limited hardware.

  • No mention of Wally Beben and his stunning work for Tetris? :)

  • @almo2001 I lived in Thetford and knew wally personally, and have to admit Tetris is a STUNNING piece of music. And as for his music in DARK SIDE, dont get me started...............lets say myself and a friend spent three hours listening to it with him one night..............

  • I have this on my iPod.

  • I would like to hear the Wizball "High Score" groove. That was kickin'. I had recorded it to casette and bumped to it in the car audio in college.

  • possibly one of the best pieces of music of the age. stunning.

  • only marting galway could pull off something like this. he's god.

  • Hard to believe, but I actually liked the completely different tune of the Atari ST version of Wizball a lot more. Much shorter and less advanced than this, but a lot catchier IMO. Too bad I can't find it anywhere...

  • @marcellobello2 Atari ST = 16bit perfection

  • Still sounds superb today, what a fantastic game and music for the C64. A classic.

  • The only reason i'm here is because i saw Notch's post and was curious, and even i am sick of coming to videos and seeing "thumbs for notch" or "notch sent me here" grow up you children, if you don't have anything useful to say just fuck off.

  • notch brought me here

  • I look at stuff like this and realize that 30 years from now, the music from the games I play now will give me nostalgia.

  • awww man, back when ocean made games! good games!

  • How much effort had to be put into this! These kind of music never ceases to amaze me.

  • 1. Notch didnt send ANYONE he only send you to a Youtube Page with "martin galway" in the search bar

    2. That has nothing to do with the video itself, so stop posting this shit

  • @PalaserGmBH LOL U MAD?

  • @killmanha i guess thats the only thing you can post... an internet reference ... good job /sarcasm off

  • Hail Notch! :'D

  • This... is.... beautiful

  • I got here..... from Notch?

  • Our god Notch has sent us to this video...

  • @Wildshibby Originality 0/10

  • @Wildshibby I'll give you a thumbs up, right up the ass. Take it! it seems you love them!

  • @lol182lol Was that supposed to be funny? mr.rage guy.

  • @Wildshibby What? I really did gave you a Thumbs up, don't be a lulzcow

  • I <3 Notch

  • @Olah92sVids

How did Notch bring you here, exactly?

  • Can still take me straight to 87... I'd like to see one modern game's music remembered in 20 some years ^^

  • @Nettoyeur71:

You forgot Chris Hülsbeck in the list of computer music composer ... :)

(Giana Sisters, Turrican, Starball, Katakis,...)...His music is really good...not always the games ;)

  • Never played a C64 in my life, but this track is a masterpiece. As a music lover, I can safely say this easily stands comparison with progressive rock masterpieces from King Crimson, Yes et al.

  • @psirou King Crimson great band and i think they still play. gentle giant or jethro tull were great too.:-)

  • a game from a time when programmers knew exactly how to use the little space they had. no loading necessary. It stood completely in the memory.

    a masterpiece!

  • Easily one of the best 64 games and easily one of the best soundtracks....

  • This is the greatest C=64 game title track ever composed! This tune will be played at my funeral at maximum volume from an original C=64! Truly amazing what this oldschool 64K RAM 8 bit computer has achieved during the years SID 6581 music ruled the demo-scene...

  • Reminds me of hours playing 2 player mode (wizard + cat) with my best friend. I should give him a call and see how he is doing.

  • Mesmerizing; thats the only word i can describe this beuatiful song with";;"

  • @SaroferZ I think Martin Galway himself said he actually had no idea how he composed the opening section and was really disappointed that he couldn't continue it or do it again!

  • @hyphz

Well, i here a lot of volume shifts and delayed instrumet envelopment; if im correct. Although these techincques might have been harder to program in 1987 then today ^__^.

Lol, i think im gonna try compose this song myself on my own commodore 64; just to see exactly where the opening section becomes hard to fix.

  • @SaroferZ I think he meant he had no idea how he came up with the music and creative side, not that he couldn't program more.

  • @hyphz

    Oh, sorry, my bad.

    Anyways: Briliant song ^__^.

  • This is definitely the Top of Games music! Best Time of my life! Think of it every day!

  • Used to load up this game just to listen to the music.

  • Even though I still fail big time on this game, I start my olde C64 every other day to listen to tunes like these. :)

  • i loved this game to death as a kid, thx for upload!

  • Great Game, great sound!

  • Used to love playing this game <3

  • this is the masterpiece on the c64 for me.

  • OMG I still have a C64 under my bed!

  • I poped into town to get this 1st day it was out , with my paper round cash , i got it home and sat there just checking the Gallaway tune out before i played , then set about beating this classic game

  • WOW :))

  • The C64 just seemed to inspire great music from programmers. Great bit of music. I remember making my friends listen to this - stick that up your fuckin' nose Speccy fans! (I had a Speccy as well).

  • @MrErisian Lol i used to make speccy people listen to this a s well

  • Amazing music, and beautiful game too. TOTALLY original. The wicked electric guitar is amazing (I think it's the death music). I put it on my mobile phone as my ringtone for when I got a message, but it just got a bit too in-your-face when it used to go off in the post office or whatever..!

  • I bought Wizball as part of a 10-pack of discount software from Thunder Mountain. There were some TOTAL duds in that bunch, but simply having Wizball and Trailblazer in there made it one of my best all-time buys. Of the two, Trailblazer had better replay value, but damn if Wizball didn't absolutely blow me away with music of a higher caliber than I had ever heard in a video game -- not just the opening theme, but also the high scores theme. (Is there a link for that anywhere?)

  • So many broken joysticks after playing this game

  • Just gives me goosebumps, the music of the C64 was why i loved the machine so much. Id just load games up to hear the music. Wizball is just a beautiful piece of music.

  • this is how techno started.

  • I've got this game <3

bet im the only girl who plays c64 these days :D

gosh im such a nerd xD

  • @Canysha You still have one? I envy you :<

  • @TypoCandar Me 2!! I have it stashed in the closet, but once a year i've this urge to plug it in and play some oooools school games .. so awesome.

  • @Canysha

Oh my gosh, look at you! you are a girl and you play the c64!

Oh my, I bet you must be special little snowflake, have fun being all unique and junk!

  • amazing! ive now got this on my iphone :)

  • This game was the pooches plums.

  • this has made all my hairs stand on end ( pubes too ) i have not herd this in years i was about 9-10 but remember it like it was yesterday. it freaked me out a little even now that green hulked out pac-man still gets into my dreams aaaaarrrrggghhhhhhhhhhhh

  • from the 80s to 2010... still sounds great ...

  • Mmm, plus you can pick up proper pc controllers and joypads pretty cheap now, especially on ebayl, but I use a PS2 pad through a USB adapter as they're still the best ones.

@riversonthemoon ~ I remember my parents staying up till the early hours playing this as well, teaming up together to try and beat. It was great having parents just as much gamefreaks as I was. xD

  • I loved this game. My mother even got into it and she would kick my ass at it (as she did with Bubble Bobble) when we would compete for high score.

Played it on an emulator recently, but it's not the same. I need to find some way of using a game controller because using the keyboard sucks. Anyone know how?

  • @riversonthemoon u can use a ps1 or ps2 controller, just perchase a usb adapter from ebay.... in fact... any old console controller really, as long as they make the usb adapter!!!

    dj rogue

  • What an amazing original game this was, the thing that stuck in my memory, (besides game play and music) was how they could put graphics out side the usual area that the C64 was restricted to, you know? where the loading bars were, they did this top and bottom.

I know there were a few others games that did this, but why was it not used more often?? make the play area bigger.

  • The C64, back when game music composers were also expected to be coders.

In addition to the composers listed in the video's description, also search for Chris Hülsbeck.

  • first game i loaded up on christmas morning 1989 or whenever it was. aww.

  • I remember this game so well. Loved playing it and the music is fantastic! Thank you for putting this up!

  • My favourite C64 game. I could never play this properly with a joystick but I later discovered a Mega Drive control pad worked as it's the same input. THEN I completed it. :-P

  • Sorry couldnt help it............ I'ts simply f*****g impressive.

  • Nice video Nettoyeur71

Older i get more appreciate i get.

    Thank you Mr.Martin Galway

  • Epic in every sense! Think I got my first erection while hearing the guitar solo at the end, lol!

  • The 2nd game I ever completed. 1st was Tau Ceti on the Spectrum 48k.

It didn't really end, after 11 and half hours of playing it just looped.

I 'phoned my mate (a fellow '64 er) and raved on about how long I was on for !

Nerdily I used to turn of the lights and leave the title screen on !

  • @shuhelali I have similar memories - nothing wrong with that at all! Happy days...

  • wizball was one of the first games i ever finished in my life, and it have some nice ideas, and the 2nd player has contolled cat...

    it was an amazing titel

    thx

  • I wish I could still play this game. The c64 had some great tittles, head over heals was one of the few I never finished.

  • Got to lemon64 and ask that question in the forums and you will get 10,000 plus people telling you about the three or four great C64 emulators and what games to download in D64 files from many sites! Alternatively, look at the bottom of the home page for one program with 1,000's C64 games you can download in one go!

  • *wipes away a nerd tear*

  • @reverendcutterx what colour WaZ the tear ? Cat would have collected it !

  • wow great music, great game, I did not finish the game at the time, But I got the c64 version for my pc and finished the game, with a little help with extra lifes bloody hard, I used to love playing this game with my brother

    great post

  • Bringing back happy memories for me.

  • hehe, awesome.

I never did get all the colours in that pot.

I must go and get the C64 out and prove to myself that i can do it.

Call of duty - who needs it.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • one of my fave when I was a child :)

  • Incredible piece, I've been listening to it since 1987 (yes, when Wizball was released) and still love it.

    Timeless, like the C64!!!

  • @marksims68 I was 6 year old then!!!

  • this game was fantastic what the hell went wrong with the amiga version

  • sensi didn't convert it?!?! that was probably the issue =)

  • my childhood captured in a youtube vid :)

  • yah me too. not just this vid but all the commodore vids.

  • Still owns!!!

  • Completely agree. The game, the playability, the music. EVERYTHING about this game was just simply brilliant. Best game on the C64 ever! Martin Galway was the king of SID music for me!

  • The Prince, maybe. Rob Hubbard was King!

  • A masterpiece of c64 tunes!

  • My hair is simply standing on an end, I have complete goosebumps. To be able to create this legenadary piece of music with that "primitive" sound-module is............

  • Well said sir :)
