  • Wouldn't mind meeting him.

  • Gene Wilder...pure genius, and seems such a sincere and genuine fellow. Yes, he is THE WILLY WONKA. Depp did good, but no, doesn't hold a candle to Mr. Wilder's performance. I would have to say my favorite role Gene played was Rabbi Avram Belinski in "The Frisco Kid" with Harrison Ford. He SMOKED that roll.

  • Gene is very special to me. Love this man!

  • What bothers me most about Mr Wilder's career is that there's never been a film that was just about him, something that gives him a part utilizing his talents, humor and outlook on life?.

I can easily see a film about elderly man who is an Alzheimer's patient or someone who has dementia trying to cope with his family & the humorous experience's?

I don't know...He might take that the wrong way but...

I think the world needs him to make another film

  • This man is real. Most of new Hollywood have no talent, but technology to carry their weak performances.

  • Ah, to see a man who has truly lived life. Such pain, such experience. Living out his twilight years writing about his life, and the lives of his characters. Very in touch with himself. I feel he can impart a great deal of wisdom to us all.

  • I came here to watch a Gene Wilder interview, but ended up becoming totally blown away by the wonderful guy interviewing him! Best interviewer EVER! Soft spoken, simple questions, and then immediately backing off to let Gene actually speak, doesn't rush or interrupt or "finish his sentences". Ernie you ROCK! Thank you for hosting an amazing interview!

  • i wish gene would do more interviews

  • I just sent a fan letterto him hopefully he replies back!

  • I've always liked Gene.

  • Gene Wilder Is One of the Biggest Legends Ever.

  • He needs to host SNL...that would be awesome!

  • legend.

  • My favourite Actor by miles..

  • When he looked at the camera I swear he was looking in my soul. I love this guy so much. Blazing Saddles is easily my favorite movie

  • he looks like nicolas cage in make up

  • @neo001x lol agreed

  • One of the most pleasant 15 mins i have spent in a long long while, you come away feeling better about life for some reason, at least i did anyway.........

  • I don't think any of these people realize he died years ago...

  • @hussgert2 Nope, he's still alive. He's 76 I believe and still kickin

  • It's Willy Wonka!

  • he says hes the happiest man now, but he seems so melancholy.

God bless him for being such a great entertainer but more so for beinga greater person

  • I agree, what an honest to God human being, and a roll model all of us, kudose to him!

  • I watched in awe of this man as a 7 year old child in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It seems odd listening to him speak as himself.

  • god bless gene. the sweetest man ever <3 :')

  • you can't help loving the man....

  • A great actor and those nazis who hate jews, go Fug yourselves idiots! This is agreat man whose brought joy to many of us, sound minded people!

  • I worshipped Gene's work before seeing this; now I'm staggered by the man's humility and honesty. A true artist who can't be rated highly enough.

  • I saw a PBS special back in the late 80's, it was an hour of the best of Gene Wilder. It was absolutely one of the funniest things I have ever seen. It kept me laughing from beginning to end. I wish I could find a copy of it, but I can't even remember what they titled it, maybe The Comedy of Gene Wilder? Anyway, he's definitely one of the greatest.

  • I am mesmerized with his honesty and humility.

  • Remake patch Adams with him as lead

  • @grady876876 Patch Adams would be mouch better with Gene, although this doesn't mean any disrespect to Williams, who is also a great actor but Gene has something unique as an actor, more finesse I'd say.

  • He needs to keep making movies, he has so much talent left. We need to learn more about ourselves, he teaches us how to be human/tolerant

  • I love this man, what a mensch!

  • This guy is amazing!

  • Thank you Ernie and Gene - authentic, inspiring and powerful. I'm grateful to have stumbled upon this interview.

  • I'd give anything to meet that man. To get to know such a creative force and genuinely introspective person would be the ultimate experience.

  • Wow - I'm staggered at his honesty in this interview given his position. It'd be so much easier for him to say nice things about the remakes and his relationship with Gilda but no; he's completely honest about them at the risk of estranging some fans and former colleagues. I couldn't agree more with him about the Young Frankenstein/Chocolate Factory remakes. Some things just do not need redoing. It's greedy and takes away from the original. What an unpretentious man - what a pleasant surprise.

  • Wow. I have seen his movies and to see what he is like now is like finding an empty bag of jelly beans. You can tell that at one time there were jelly beans, but now there is a sack of empty promises.

  • Gene is a wonderful,kind,funny man.

I listened to his autobiography on my ipod and when it was over I felt like I lost my best friend.

  • His voice is so amazingly soothing, I always feel so at peace watching Gene Wilder, even at his zaniest, he manages to "maintain"...LOVE HIM!!!

  • There are not enough words. The best -x-

  • is he alive

  • I have loved every movie I have seen him in. A legend. The remake of Willy Wonka was horrible and creepy. Thanks for making us laugh all these years.

  • @nostalgiajunkie70 I think he was reserving his true thoughts about Willy Wonka (the new one) and I am glad he didn't see it.

I protested by not seeing it either. I think that is a pox on the house of Tim Burton - leave the true original great movies alone.

    Gene is AWESOME!!!

  • Nicholas Cage when he gets old.

  • THE REAL and ONLY WILLY WONKA.

  • @jinnai702 I totally second that.

  • @jinnai702 Yes yes yes. Gene's performance as Willy Wonka is quite outstanding, and so is the film.

  • good questions asked.gene wilder -legend

  • He is one of GOD's angels, I'm sure.

  • He made me cry at the end!

  • @that1weirdkid27 me too!!

  • a wonderful legend , a pleasure to watch him interviewed.

  • The day this man passes on, it will be an extremely sad day, especially for anyone that truly enjoyed his work in theater, movies, or his books. truly a magical genuine special man. i have ALWAYS been a fan of Gene, and Mel Brooks of course, they were a great duo.

  • God, he's so wise. He seems very spiritual too.

  • I want a WONKABAR!

  • oh no i think he's still got a way to go, yeah there's still that twinkle in his eyes he and Christopher walken are my all time favs,( comedic i'm talking) not straight, my best altime acting ability is Daniel Day Lewis, but gene wilder is magic he has a magic presence about him, long live gene, king gene

  • Johnny Depp can't hold a candle to the DEFINITIVE WONKA.

  • @310sucks agree 100% gene is willy wonka not depp.

  • @310sucks thats very true and depp is an all time great and he cant fuck with that awesome performance by mr wilder...

  • gene ooze's with wisdom.

  • @thehomefront you didnt need the word with

  • No he lost his amazing voice :(

But he will always be remembered

  • such a sweet sweet man, and i love him!

  • omg this is gonna make me cry cause i thought he was a lot younger and he may pass away soon! D':

  • @faanosoccerr part of the beauty of giving someone flowers is that theyll die...if they lasted forever they wouldnt be appreciated

  • Gene is one of the best, even his not so good films are good (to me anyway)! I wish Willy Wonka was not remade the first is a piece of cinema perfection the same can be said about Young Frankenstein! As someone that is learning the process of screen writing, I have a list of films that I'd love too remake, not because they were bad films, just not done (in my opinion) as good as they could have been (either poor dialog or simply miss cast). I am a fan of Johnny Depp.

  • he has love and life in his eyes... such an amazing man :)

  • What year was this from?

  • @scarlet000begonia This was shot in 2007 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Houston, TX. Thanks for watching!!

  • Ernie, you are an amazing interviewer!

  • So very, very sweet. I wish there were millions more on the planet like him. The world would be a different place.

  • Gene wilder is amazing man great man only if i could meet him in person :)

  • The Frisco Kid, Harrison Ford and Gene Wilder one of my favorite movies. Sad that he doesn't do movies anymore. I believe the remake of Willy Wonka was so-so, at least Depp didn't even attempt to BE Gene Wilder's Wonka. I'm just tired of movies having 85% of it be cgi.

  • excellent. thank you for asking such good questions with out belittling nor, offending. it's so rare to see a good interviewer do it right. again, excellent.

  • I haven't watched the new "Wonka" movie for the same reason (too dark) and probably never will. I'm not a big fan of remaking movies anyway. It's as if the original wasn't good enough. They do the same with classic songs and I hate that! My uncle took my brother and I to see "..Wonka..." back in the early 70's when it first came out and that's a memory I'll always cherish. Young Frankenstein was great too and I wish they'd just leave it alone.

  • @celebrityimpressions I agree one hundred precent about remakes (I still haven't forgive Madonna for redoing American Pie) I disagree with your analysis of the new Wonka movie being too dark. I say the old one is MUCH darker (remember the scene when they're on the boat and those frightening images flash on the walls of the tunnel?). While this is just my opinion, I also think that we have lost many subtleties in films making the new one more overtly dark while the old one was much more nuancey.

  • One of the most beatiful men in the world, inside and out. Such a kind heart. God I would do anything to marry a man like him. I'm way too young of course, and he's married. But if I were older, well, that's a different story. I love him so much! I listen to Pure Imagination nonstop. He is a genius, too. No one can beat his ideas. Love always <3

  • "Come with me, and we'll be in a world of pure imagination"....

  • I really miss Gene Wilder movies, what a funny, charming man. I love how he still has the big blue eyes and crazy blonde hair.

  • hes got a kinda fluffy intensity i think

  • What a wonderful man and comic genius, Gene Wilder!

  • One of the sweetest men to ever walk the earth, and as always, a class act.

  • Bring Back Gene Wilder! One More Movie!

  • That sweet, wonderful man. When he talks like that I keep getting teary-eyed, don't know why really. I love him, just love him. Yes, am a fangirl, have a crush on Wilder, will never regret it :)

  • Great interview :)

  • Gene Wilder is awesome. Young Frankenstein was epic!

  • i love this man...he's gotta be the sweetest most amazing guy ever.. thank god for gene wilder.. simply amazing . much love always

  • @skathic86 Gene really is. He is a legend for all of the right reasons.
