Talat's voice in this song as in all others, is as if he hasn't had any breakfast. Lata in this song is fantastic, and absolutely not unpleasant. Her voice control is marvellous and simply superhuman in this song, unlike the shaky voice of Talat. If she had control over the industry, it was because of her superior talents! She was far better at ghazals, classical songs and many other genres than Geeta and possessed far better diction.

She was the favourite of Roshan, SDB, LP, KA, Naushad, SJ, Anil Biswas, Chitragupt, Hemant Kumar, C Ramchandra, Vasant Desai, Ghulam Mohammed, Salil Chaudhary, Madan Mohan etc. It is ludicrious to say it was because of any unfariness on her part. It is also a pitiable attempt to insult all these music directors! Lata was the need of the hour, but as happens to successful people, unfair criticisms like the one you have made, came her way. She chose to ignore them: that's all they were worth.

Agreed. As wonderful as Lata is, she's unlistenable in the high pitch portions of this song.
