  • I drooled all over my keyboard 45 seconds in.

  • OH. MY. GOD.

  • the most perfect f# ever.

  • She has been my childhood favorite, for no one I've heard yet can do it as well or on the same note for note. I remember my aunt would write to her; I grew up with photographs of her all throughout the house. I'd listen to her day to day, and never got tired of her!

  • Ten minutes of some of the most gorgeous singing ever. And that high F#! Wow, best sung note above E natural EVER.

  • This has got to be the reason the internet was invented surely. Had never even heard of this incredible woman till I stumbled on one of the other recordings whilst I was youtube grazing a few months ago. She is extraordinary. Thank you so much to everyone who uploads her gorgeous voice

  • I was never overly fond of her voice, but never realized how beautiful she is!

Merveilleux!

  • ive always found (relatively) soft high notes to be kind of fascinating, and she certainly had them, so did beverly sills, though not this high. Mady Mesples voice can have sort of a pinched quality sometimes, although most of this sounds good. I think i prefer the fuller, rounder sound of Dessay's high F# in her recording of this aria in the 90s while she was still performing things that high

  • @skitzo429 Really? I find Natalie's really screechy, it almost hurts my ears, Mady's is warmer I think.

  • @eugenelohks i think natalie dessay might have somewhat of a screech now (post surgery and stuff) but in the 90s i thoight she had a really nice full sound, mesple has always been sort of pinched in my mind, although her high notes were (or, could be) softer

  • I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE her high f-sharp!!!!!!!!!!

  • Fabulous. She's such a wonderful actress!!

  • Listen to this with some bad-ass headphones (like Bose) and you'll hear how clear and beautiful her trills and everything, for that matter, are in this aria! She was definitely a force to be reckoned with!

  • Wow that was FREAKIN AMAZING :D

  • Ummm yea she's so awesome and definitely one of my all time favorites!!!!! But yes this is my favorite aria of all time and nobody does it better than her, in my opinion.

  • shrill? i hope you just mean the timbre..

as for Robin, sure she goes high, but she produces those acuti in a very ill manner.

So I stick to Mesplé rather than scoops.

As for the role itself, to me, Mesplé and Dessay just own it

  • Everything she does - her trills, her high notes - are exquisite.

  • Of course, we all know that this is Jeanette Macdonald. :_)

  • oh god...her trill on the F was gorgeous...light and delicate and sad sounding like a delicate bird in pain...just like Ophélie

  • dahmn those are some high notes

  • Yes, this is my favorite of her singing-- Hamlet. She sang the final high note for about 10 beats, and her trio were marvelous. I didn't bring this music from home and I miss it a lot. Thank you for posting it.

  • Gorgeous F-sharp in the end!

  • Really impressive! What a perfection!

Notes flow naturally and you feel in Heaven..

  • Stunning singing.Brava!TY

  • Mady Mesple is my favorite singer of all time.

    Her voice is so inspiring.

    :)

  • I adore her too!

  • She is im-pre-ssi-ve as Ophélie...

  • She is gorgeous with her hair down!

  • yes PopoliDiTessalia you're right. Mado Robin is Queen of high notes.

  • No, Mady is.

  • She is a Colortura by the way

  • She has a beautiful voice and she is beautiful! I GIVE HER VOICE TEN STARS!

  • Outstanding. She is at her best here.

  • Who has ever sung the last note the way Mady can? Not only does she have a great instrument but her musicianship is incredible. She sang the Queen of the Night at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. I loved her but the reviewer said she could not be heard beyond the third row. I guess he was a Sutherland lover. So was the Lyric of Chicago.

  • Natalie Dessay also took the last note up in a few performances.

  • This last note (high F?) was Mado Robin's trademark...

  • actually the high Bb That mado interpolated into lucias madscene was her trademark

  • ....and a beautiful woman.

  • she certainly brings a girlish vibe to this aria... i feel as though Ophelia is a girl, not a woman... lovely, light.

  • Excellente Mesplé...

    Et musicienne accomplie...

  • Quelle voix légère ! Et quelle justesse, spécialement dans le staccato ! Et un contre-fa# à la fin ! Je rêve !

  • Sublime! Vive la France!
