Water was pointless other than a quick acquisition for Life.
My friend and I played via modem one time.....it was choppy as hell but awesome, and I would love to start a turn based game of this up with 7 avid fans. I'd take any faith...and probably win.
I hear if you custom game the staff of drowning onto your mage lord as water, you can get off to such a flying start that you can easily own half the map after 40 turns, gobbling up lvl 7 and 8 dungeons! especially due to water's good positioning relative to other faiths and good ships.
Water, by itself, is the most balanced of the faiths - this is both is main strength and weakness. It has two major trump cards. First is location - it has, by far, the most isolated starting location of all faiths, allowing you to build your forces in relative peace. Second is its proximity to the faiths Order and Life - Life has arguably the game's best archers, Order has the game's best cavalry. And since Water also starts out reasonably friendly with these faiths... three lords, anyone?
Im picking this game up from Ebay and cant wait to play it. Unfortunatly this is a very old good and most likely not compatible with newer software. Is there any way to overlook this (Programs)? If anyone can answer this please let me know. Thanks!
Any faith can conquer Urak, but it takes a good mind to lead and fight their way to victory... there are no weak faiths, only bad commanders. Just like how my brother beat Balkoth with1 life mage and a handful of archers or like how I beat Balkoth with a chaos warrior and three groups of lvl 1 raiders. Long live Lords of Magic.
In the S.E Water always had a missive advantage, their warriors kinda sucked, but were one of the fastest, and tougher then the life warriors. Were killers with quicksilver. Their healing spells kicked ass, healing waters was the best spell they had, not to mention Seer and guardian waves and the normal sight one which gave good exploration, with seagulls in the mix, made them better then air for exploration. then they have access to life and order village (order cavelry and life archers)
Great music, maybe even a little better than the order track. I also enjoyed playing water a lot. Great mages and thiefs. It's not the physically strongest faith, but by far not the weakest (that would be air). Spiders are great for temporarily disabling the movement of enemy heroes, just take 3 of them and you have a great advantage at the beginning of combat. Healing waters also makes your party much stronger, giving the ability to fully recover after a battle.
I always thought water was a nice Faith to pick. Their troops are fairly balanced and their magic was some of the best defensive spells in the game. Their water warrior was pretty good in most of the areas of the game in terms of stats. Their thieves are some of the best in the game. Their legendary creature was terrible in low numbers but the ability to mass them made them so much better than they seem. Loved water!
Water, the worst faith in the game, the only reason i ever stop to conquer them is because they have fast (but weak in combat) ships and the ever deadly serpents!!!! They own the weakest legendary creature in the game, but the creature can walk on water so its like an overpowered scout.
Warrior - best water character, but also weak in combat (joust much?)
theif - she blows at everything
mage - sucks alot, spells suck. they can heal directly but thats it.
Aside from the thief pun that I'm assuming was intentional, you obviously have no clue what you're talking about. Water is an awesome faith. Yes, spiders are weaker than other legendary creatures, but they can be mass-produced. Water warrior is actually their weakest champion. Water thieves have awesome stealth (3rd best I think) and above average damage with better range than death/chaos. Their spells are support based--freeze is easily the best spell in the game.
I like to play on hard mode, starting a thief lord, the Ring of Shelter, and a warrior. Just steam cloud the warrior, put the thief in stealth, and abuse the warrior's parry. Then go dungeon hopping and watch all the enemies suicide themselves attacking your steamy warrior.
Thank you so much for uploading this! This was one of my favorite games when I was a kid. I don´t have the game anymore though, but it was really nice hearing the music again! :D

The game IS balanced but only for single player. Multiplayer is where Mantera comes in.

I love that people are still talking about and playing this game after 15 years.

Definately helps to get ManTerA's mod. Water is buffed a bit and made a bit more balanced compared to other races.

Water is broken... I used to own entire dungeons solo on my mage lord. Cast steam cloud and then freeze on yourself ;)

I get a really strong Metroid vibe from this track, especially in regards to Prime. Sounds like it's right outta the crashed pirate ship.

Brilliantly atmospheric between 1:44 and 2:47. This is one of the great pieces of original game music.

If I played Water, I build my army around their Lizzardmen (and -women). Just because they looked so unique.

From 1:44 to 2:47 is nothing more than pure musical brilliance.

You could freeze and steam shield a gate, best defense ever
galathon3 2 years ago
What? I never thought of that - I'll go try it! I'll be back in about ten hours when I learn the spells!

Two words: Light rain!
Rekne 3 years ago
Agreed - this gives them a kicka** advantage when combatting fire, but I think Sands of Sleep is the best combat spell in general.
Chipmonk1963 2 years ago
@Rekne It kills fire units DEAD!
I loved using it on those dragons on that island north of water on the default map. Such a great game, although Water's spider creatures suck.

Water has the worse offensive spells, but the best defensive ones. Water troops are well-balanced.

well balanced in thier own population controling.

not a chance, inferno would knock up, down, left, right, in and out freeze in a HEARTBEAT.
