I learned about George Washington Carver, Frederick Douglass, Crispus Attucks, Dr. Charles Drew, Dred Scott, Harriette Tubman, Booker T. Washington (and the list goes on) in history class (the late 60's) long before Black History Month ever existed. I also learned about Abigail Adams, Betsy Ross, Susan B. I understand completely, It is not about celebrating black people it is about celebrating the accomplishments of our ancestors and the fact that we were able to rise up against the odds. I may not know about the other months in depth but they are there to celebrate past events not to celebrate for being black. I am proud of what was done for me before me and I feel that it is my time to give thanks, and not just in that month but all the time.
You might say "Recognize", but that's not what happens, people celebrate it, which creates more seperation. Also why live in history and that's one bad thing about black people, you always want to look at your history and justify that with your future.

Black history month is to remind us that blacks where once socially unaccepted, which is unimaginable for most of us. Singling out one particular race teaches children that don't have a month devoted to their race's significance implies to them that their race isn't special enough. I understand completely, It is not about celebrating black people it is about celebrating the accomplishments of our ancestors and the fact that we were able to rise up against the odds. I may not know about the other months in depth but they are there to celebrate past events not to celebrate for being black. I'm a Israeli Jew. My opinion is that humans naturally recognize fiscal differences. So what she says is somewhat unrealistic, but understanding. Black history month is to remind us that blacks where once socially unaccepted, which is unimaginable for most of us. So its good to remember what blacks faced to accomplish freedom, its not like there just celebrating for the hell of it. It should not be scene as as a racism issue or anything of that sort.
