Cassino was truly a team effort. The Germans defended well and bravely. The Poles (4 battle), Americans (1 battle) and New Zealanders (2 + 3 battle) fought well. Each attack hurt the German defenders. Don't forget the French effort in breaking through. Clark and Alexander both did a good job. Clark was more strategic. He knew this battle was about who would be the great conqueror of Rome. History shows Clark as being the great victor.
