I think American's have been so deeply trained to be so easily offended. There are similar dolls that look characteristically like Asian men and woman. In a stereotypical way. And Japanese people do not feel insulted, but feel that these dolls are cute. This doll doesn't even look like its supposed to be a black person. Looks more like a character from a video game. There are MUCH more insulting things in this world, without us looking for it in the smallest of things.

@guitarzan73 The US was not taken over by China from 1945-1952. The US does not have any Chinese Military base through out its country. The US constitution was not rewrote in 1947 by the Chinese. The Chinese did not make the Emperor give up his divinity. The US has given Japan a great many wonderrful things since the end of WWII but we have also given them our racism too. The US was still a segregated country (1945-1952).And still effects (the US more so)them if only on a subconscious level.
The Japanese know about the same on the history of ethnic relations in America as you do for say,China. Basically nothing.

The first thing I would think is that Japan was controled by the US from 1945-1952. So the racism of the US was taught to the Japanese as far back as when Commandor Perry came to Edo in 1854. He put on plays with his sailor in black face to entertain the locals. So some Japanese would not even think of it as being racist. They even have a doll called Dakkochan(Sambo like) which cameout in the 1960s. The have adopted a lot of the white mans ideas of African Americans, he was all powerful here too
I can kind of see where your coming from, but I think it looks cute. I believe the person who designed the doll intended it to be of an indigenous person from Africa. Have you seen the shows on discovery channel? They are usually dark skinned, almost naked, and wavy hair. I think American's have been so deeply trained to be so easily offended. There are similar dolls that look characteristically like Asian men and woman. In a stereotypical way. And Japanese people do not feel insulted, but feel that these dolls are cute. This doll doesn't even look like its supposed to be a black person. Looks more like a character from a video game. @guitarzan73 The US was not taken over by China from 1945-1952. The US does not have any Chinese Military base through out its country. The US constitution was not rewrote in 1947 by the Chinese. The Chinese did not make the Emperor give up his divinity. The US has given Japan a great many wonderrful things since the end of WWII but we have also given them our racism too. The US was still a segregated country (1945-1952).And still effects (the US more so)them if only on a subconscious level.

When Commondor W. C. Perry came to Japan in 1854 he had his men perform Minstrel Shows(a racist skit performed by whites in blackface) for the Bukufu Gov't in Edo. Japans 1st image of Africans came from racist whites.

The first thing I would think is that Japan was controled by the US from 1945-1952. So the racism of the US was taught to the Japanese as far back as when Commandor Perry came to Edo in 1854. He put on plays with his sailor in black face to entertain the locals. So some Japanese would not even think of it as being racist. They even have a doll called Dakkochan(Sambo like) which cameout in the 1960s. The have adopted a lot of the white mans ideas of African Americans, he was all powerful here too

I can kind of see where your coming from, but I think it looks cute. I believe the person who designed the doll intended it to be of an indigenous person from Africa. Have you seen the shows on discovery channel? They are usually dark skinned, almost naked, and wavy hair.
