These fantastic Locomtives are testament to "British Industry" each of these Engines
ran over 9 Million Miles in thirty years.Their reputation for not breaking down was
legendary, they flattened Shap and Beatock hauling 12 to 13 to 14 Coach loads without losing more than 5mph in speed.I have seen one run to Glasgow to Euston
three times in one 24 hour cycle, then it turned up again and did the same!!!.They
are much favoured over the more modern class 90s say no more.
Agree with silverdalesapphires comment 100%. What the public want when they are awaiting their train is to see a ruddy great locomotive thundering into the station with such a personification of power that the the ground shakes and you can feel the earth move under your feet !Thanks for posting.
If one was cynical one might think that the introduction of DEMUS (Vile Voyagers) and EMUS (Poorly Designed Pendolinos) were an attempt to destroy the interest of rail-enthusiasts. Nothing around today on WCML can compare with an 87 and a rake of MKIIIs. The windows matched the seats, the buffet WAS a buffet and the toilets worked.......
The opening of this video was filmed at Carlisle, as I recognised the platform from my many trips to the station on the way to football. Must admit that locomotive sounded very ill.
I liked the class 87s there are one of my favourte electric locomotives.

Agreed! Pendos and Voyagers are pieces of plastic shite! Most Loco hauled trains were fantastic!

what a waste of these locos.
going to bulgaria.
these locos were supposedly life expired.
hmm i wonder!.?.
CREPELLO12 2 years ago
I guess to the UK they are obsolete but to a poorer country like Bulgaria they are a lot more valuable.

at least going to bulgaria is better than scrapping these brilliant locos!
