  • This is fantastic.

  • miss u bud, so much to say,

  • I could watch you drum all day mate, make it look too easy, lol

  • @1980sDiscoMullet

    Very cool. Thanks 1980DM!

  • Now, THIS is a really refreshing change. Relaxed, loose, improvisational, interesting and all very natural. Very very nice playing....and I love your sense of humor and feel for the music. Definitely the best Rush "cover" I've seen. Good to see a Peart-fan who plays relaxed and without the shoulder tension that alot of drummers have picked up from watching Neil. Bravo!

  • @045freddy

    Wow, Thanks Freddy!

  • I found this because we have the same last name - but I'm Doug and your Dave - that's where the comparisons stop - I bow down to your skills brother! Very cool! I always wanted to play and instrument in life but I went into comedy instead! Bravo Goodrich!

  • @555douggood

Mr. Goodrich! Thank You! ( funny, I always wanted to be a comedian. oh well.)

Check out my 'Funny Drummer" video. Let me know you thoughts as an expert...:)

    Rock on Doug!

  • man i have watched about 10 of these covers even though you add different fills by far the best best sense of natural drumming ...well besides Mr Peart. But never the less ,very good

  • @dirtylarry69

    LOL! Thanks DLarry!

  • danngg u actually made it more difficult than it originally was....

SIKK u rokk neil wud b proud

  • @IronFabianSteel

    Cool, Thanks...:)

  • I share this video with all my friends and family cause its just 1 of the best drum cover of subdivision...I can really see the passion in this mans skills! Bravo! Bro.

  • @MrRobertsmix

Very kind Mr. Roberts. Thank you!

  • Most epic, Neil would be very proud!

  • @TheBigCarp321 Much Thanks Big Carp!

  • that was awesome

  • @pjsbulldog67 Thanks PJ...... :)

  • I would really love to see this in High Def! I know this is probably not the place...But....Am I the only one who loves the possibility of Mike Portnoy playing with Avenge SevenFold? What do you think Dave?

  • @jimmymac63

    Thanks Jim,

Portnoy is a great drummer, but alot of his fantastic sound and style comes from close mic-ing, strong sound systems and studio production, tight hitting, small stix, etc. Not my cup of tea. I think AVF will be a good challenge for him. I think he left DT and is already in the AVF band. Rock on Jim!

  • I would really love to see this in High Def!

  • Neil who?

  • @OdyBeRidin

    Easy now..... LOL!

  • @OdyBeRidin Hey, hey, hey..... LOL! Neil Rules.

  • more plz!

  • @jlg5150

    ..... :)

  • i dont care HOW MANY times i watch this...its TRULY un-frinkin believable...you could really sit in on neal on this one....OMFG!...

  • @aarmington, LOL! Thanks!

  • I really like how you made this your own. Sounds amazing!

  • @satellitegirl34

    Very cool... Thanks!

  • I know I've commented before but I keep coming back to this video like a bug to a zapper. Just awesome.

  • @Stickman53fe

    Nice! Thanks man. Very cool.

  • Nice spin on a great song. Awesome!

  • @HomesliceDrummer

    Thanks, ............ :)

  • love it ever time i see it

  • @jlg5150

    Alright!........ Thanks!

  • dude im speechless

  • @gowhitesox12

    LOL!................. very nice.

  • I really dig the ride / double kick / hi hat accents on the chorus! sweet kit, I love the 3 chinas. you in a band? post a link to your site if you are!

  • @TheJsalsich

I play in a cover band for $ right now. ( Nuts in a Blender )

Thank you for your kind words!

  • wow, simply amazing!!!!!!

  • @MandMTeamProductions

    Thanks.....:)

  • Just want to say... you're a genius. I favourited the video a long time ago and, after several months, it still amases me. Thank you for the inspiration. Really, I wish I played like you. Cheers !

  • @TheHitman1990

So cool, Thank you so much!

  • Dave, this is one of my favorite drumming videos!! I have it saved in my "favorite" file and watch it often. I've given you praise before, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to give you praise again!! It's just great!!

  • WOW!

Thank you so much! So glad you enjoy it!

  • @jumpinjojo

LOL!.... to funny. Thank YOOOOOU again!

  • you are the man any cover song you do is fine by me, rock on

  • Thank you ....:) very cool!

  • @jlg5150

    Very cool!

  • I for one would like to see how Dave interprets the song today....AND....I would like to hear his version of Tom Sawyer! How about it Dave!!!!!!!!!

  • I play it the same really, But I would like to try a new one! Tom Sawyer was a thought... but I love Limelight too...:)

    Thanks!

  • Beautifully busy playing, Dave! How about trying a version of Kid Gloves, or Force Ten?

  • @polbecca

Thanks. Great tunes too. I hope to get to something soon...:)

  • hey Dave...2 questions: has anyone from Rush ever commented on this video and 2: is there anything about this video you wish you had done differently?? thanks buddy!

  • (1) I think they have better things to do then watch my corny videos.... LOL! However, I have met and spoken with Neil, but it was before" the age of youtube." (2) Something new always pops out everytime I sit down and play this song. I think that is the fun about freestyle playing... .:)

  • thxs man your the geatest

  • ............ :)

  • LOL! Nice bonus at the end! Another fun one to play!

  • Nice creativity ! Love your hi-hat and cymbal work!...Subscribed!

  • Cool! Thanx!

  • WOW!!! best cover i've ever seen.....ever!

  • Thank you! (not a cover) ... But thank you so much for your comment!

  • DK how about some van halen or Kiss

  • Nice. Maybe... I gotta record something new!

  • Great drumming dave question are those alchemy crashes and chinas?

  • Yes, I loved the sound of them. But, I broke them easy. I normally play Zildjian or Sabian. I miss my Alchemys tho. Now I practice with WuHon. Thanks!

  • Awesome cover! Can you please put the Analog Kid cover up?

  • LOL! ... Not a cover, but thanx! I have not recorded Analog kid. Just that little bit at the end. (sorry)

  • Dude, awesome. I bet Neil would appreciate your take on Subdivisions. This is a nice homage to the song and his writing of the drum part. You have very impressive skills!

  • Very nice, so cool............ :)

  • one word.. AWESOME

  • ............................ :)

  • no offense dude but u have THE weirdest drum setup ever! And u sit so low haha. But ur amazing. Really impressive stuff man

  • LOL!

Thanks, but maybe if you saw it from a different angle, you would see it is rather normal and standard.... :)

  • Dave is the MAN!! That was fantastic!! I love his fluid style.

  • Wow, Thanks JJJ!

I love your page! Rock On!

  • what was the name of the end riff you jammed too? sounded like another RUSH tune. was fuckin sick!

  • Analog kid, same album.....:)

  • this is awesome!

  • Your comment is awsome........ Thanks!

  • wow. man. great chops!!!!

  • ........... :)

  • Was listening to VH1 Classics when I heard this for the first time, and was looking for the remixes. This would be killer for the"Tour Version." I absolutely love your version.

  • Thanks, not a Neil style of drumming, but he is like a father to me. LOL!

  • I've been a Rush "Neil Peart" fan the last 20+ years and I love your version of the drum part for this great song! Being a drummer myself, there are a few of your fills I would like to borrow for the next time I play the song! Great work! Also, the drums sound really crisp through the PA system. Looking forward to another vid sometime. Keep rocking!

  • So cool, Thanks!

No PA tho, just my mixer lined into the camera input.

  • incredible hi-hat work.....wow!!!!!!awesome to listen to

  • Thanks!

  • amazing drumming! any newer versions?

  • Not yet...... I'm trying to make some time.

  • bro, i had posted once a comment that said you are a fuckin great drummer... and as i watch this vid again and again, i'm like ....totally blown away bro :D you are a really cool drummer

    keep rockin'

  • Very nice of YOU bro!

It means alot to me. Again, Thank you.

  • It's nice to see someone at the top of their game up close.Thanks.

  • Thanks Jazz! ... ( I think?) LOL!

  • That you Dave? Mike knows me...Nice job but Rush is so played......(shoot me wish i could do that) ;)

  • Yup, Mike who? ( last name?)

  • So free and relaxed great job

  • Thanks John!

  • I like it, but I think it would be a bit better without abousing of the open/close hihat strokes, if u get what i mean, also i don't like those accents in the HH at the beggining, but i like it hehe.

    cheers

  • Thanks for you opinion... It is cool to hear other peoples's slants and views. Can I see and hear your playing now?

    Thanks again!

  • I like what you've done. Adds another level to the song.

  • Cool! Thanks!

  • great talent, but your all over the place, keep it tight. it's not a solo.

  • Thanks..... but it is a freestyle jam-along version, not a cover "like Neil" version. I take alot from Neil already. He has paved the road in Gold.

  • There are plenty of talented drummers on this site doing perfect or near perfect renditions of Peart's songs. It is nice to see someone go out on a limb and put their own slant on it. Right on Dave! Keep rockin

  • Nailed it..... thatnx a bunch for understanding! Very cool.

  • Great job man, but my only criticism, as it is a RUSH song, it's already a "technical' song, you may be overplaying it a tad.

  • No disrespect, but I get a kick out someone saying it was a bit too techical. That is like saying back in the day, Pam Anderson's boobs were "Too perfect", or you gave me "Too much money". Simply does not compute. I think he did a masterful job!

  • You kill me Jim...LOL!!!!!!!

    Thanks for your support.

  • Thanks, I dig your opinion.... but remember, it is just a free/fun jam along thing. Not a cover version.

  • Thanks...?

It is NOT a cover tune version. Just my own freejam playalong fun. But, Yes, I do tend to overplay when jamming for fun and not for the song.

  • @deldine70

LOL! ...ya think? Very true. Just played it for fun. Thanks.

  • Man I have watched this now atleast 20 times in the last 4 days and am in awe at the ease and fluidity with which you play. I love Peart , Ginger Baker, Mitch Mitchell and Nicko from Maiden . I can watch these guys play allday. And I find the same goes for you. You have a great panache!! Absolutely love what you did with your version. I watched your " history 85-98" vid and was hoping to see you do some Maiden , is that something you ever covered? If so do you have a vid ?

    New Fan

    Ian

  • Maybe something from piece of mind?

    Yeahhhhhhhhh!

    Thanks, I'll try.

  • I think I've got wood!!

  • LOL! Thanks.... I think. LOL!

  • Bro, that's a good thing. You're awesome!!

  • Dude i have watched this vid everyday since i discoved it and everytime i am mezmerized i checked all over and i did not see the rest of the analog kid song. anyway i hope things are going better for you and i hope you can get back to posting vids agian sometime soon. peace kid. Freekin amazing

  • @nuphi90

    Thank you so much......... :)

  • I watch this at least once a month....you are talented as hell.....Right On DAVE.....Give us more!

  • @Italianuzi

LOL! Right on! I'm trying to find the time.

  • @Italianuzi Okay everyone, time for us to collectively put our heads together to help this young man find the time to entertain us! Please help, because we are all obviously starved for new stuff! :) There Dave, hope that helps!

  • @jimmymac63

Very cool... I hope to get some new stuff out this winter...:) Thanx a boatload!

  • I`m a Rush fan since 1980 and play guitar for years, and you play very well, really good sound.

  • Thanks!

  • Dude your freekin sick on this song i love rush and neal but i gotta tell ya i love your version unbelivible you have ruined the original for me. please tell me you have more rush vids i would love to hear the rest of anolog kid

  • Neil is a great drummer but he seems to stiff; too rigid at times. Dave is loose and having fun. He took a little liberty with the song and still did a great job. Way to go, Dave!

  • Thank you so much! It means alot!

  • Thanks, so cool!

I'll try to get some more vids going. ( I'm going thru some tuff times right now )

    Thanks again!

  • Thanks, I'm trying.

  • @nuphi90

Very cool, Thanks man, I'll post when I shoot an new one.

  • LOVE THE DOUBLE KICK IMPROV!!!!!!

Its like Subdivisions on "performance enhancing drugs". GOT HGH??

  • Thanks!

  • Of course whenever I see something to the effect of @@@ does his version of Rush's @@@@. I don't have a lot of expectation. But I have to say I really enjoyed that. Nicely done!

  • Thanks a bunch!

  • does anyone know where this footage came from? coz i really wanted to watch "The Analog Kid" that Dave just starts playing in the end of this video. source anyone? thanks!

btw, AMAZING ARRANGE! i just love it, watched this like 9384840375 times and counting! VERY NICE WORK, KEEP IT UP DUDE! you rock

  • he made it himself. old footage he converted over to digital. it's kind of what he does.

  • Cool, Thanks for the help brotha C. I love the new kit pic you sent me.

  • Very cool, Glad you liked it. I just continued with "Analog Kid" a bit for no reason. I hope to get more videos on soon.

    - DKG

  • thanks for the reply. i just wanted to know if there is the chance that you had your own "version" of Analog Kid, which by the way is one of greatest Rush's songs.

thanks anyway, and keep it up ur really amazing and i love your version of Subdivisions!!

  • Thanks!

Go to my MYSPACE. ( dkgoodrich )

  • @codibick

It comes from me bro. I hope to shoot some new stuff soon. Just to busy right now. Go to my page and them my myspace if you like. Thanks!

  • Esse cara é foda!!! great drummer...

  • .... Thanks!

  • wow man, that was awsome nice one

  • Glad you dug it.

  • Dave, I can't tell you how many times I have watched this video. I know you read these comments. You are one of the top players in this industry. Whether or not you have a family and other committments, don't ever give up on this. You have a gift and I should be reading about you in Modern Drummer and not watching a video from 7 years ago. Work your ass off because the rest of the world needs to recognize your talent like the rest of us on Youtube have. Good luck- Ryan

  • Very, VERY kind of you Ryan, But I'm a Knowbody. I never got put in the right place at the right time. My only success is YouTube & Myspace. Like many others, I'm sure.

Thanks again for your kind words.

  • Ok this is the video I couldn't find until now. I had it several months back but had lost the link.

This is my favorite rendition of Subdivisions!

Your playing is fantastic broseph....wondering if you're a Boston bad boy?

    Masshole here, lol.....

  • "Masshole" .... CLASSIC!

    I'm a NEWYORKaDORK!

    Thanks brosiff!

  • Would that make me a North Craplinian

  • LOL!

  • I like the intricate high hat work

  • Cool!

  • OUTSTANDING! Very smooth and nice additions to the original classic.

  • Nice, Thanks alot!

  • dam it i hate you, why do i have to watch this video everytime i get home from work?....... and even worse when i listen to the song in my car i think neil is missing the double bass in some parts.. I <3 UR SHIT KEEP ON ROCKING!

  • F*ck'n Cool!

Thank you so much for that very high compliment!

  • Dude, you're not only In the pocket, you PICKED the pocket (whatever the hell that means). You are a talented MoFo. Enjoyed tremendously.

  • LMAO! I love that line! Can I steal it? ( Like I have stolen alot of my drum licks from great players.) LOL!

    Thanks man!

  • I watch this once a day haha!!!! do you have the rest of the video for the analog kid you were playing at the end?,,I request more of your own covers by rush,, their great!!

  • LOL! Thanks! I'll try an do some more stuff to video. So nice of you.

  • This is amazing, man! I LOVE IT! XD

  • Thank you!

  • Obviously not a cover as some people oddly think so. Rather a masterpiece I listen to often to get my spirits up. My fav rush drumming tune and you KILLED it man. I've passed this on to many people. Neil would be proud of guys like you and honored to see what you have done here. Btw, whats the drum at 4:26? It doesnt fit to me.

  • Thanks!

It is an Elec drum. ( small explosion sound ) I don't care for it anymore either.... LOL!

    Thanks again.

  • Cool. I like how you're not concerned with getting it exactly the same as Neil.

    Nice feel.

  • Correct!... Thanks a bunch!

  • Thanks man. I dig.

  • by the way, what module are you using to get that sound out of your electric pad?

  • Just an old Pearl drumX. 1985? LOL!

  • Thanks.

You are right. I'm over-playing for sure! LOL! Not a cover version. Just for fun.

    Thanks again!

  • i like your playing, style, even though it didn't really fit with the song.

  • Dear God! I think Neil Peart has just met his match!!!! If he did something like this at a concert I think a riot would break out! From 5:03 to the end you are rocking the f-out!

  • Thanks! Very nice of you but I'm NO match for Neil. He is a legend... and I'm just an fan of his, who failed to ever get anywhere with my playing.

    Thanks again.
