Under a paid maternity leave system, other workers workload goes up, their salaries go down, profits of the company goes down and prices go up for goods and services.
@ALFIEAJAPAN I don't see why other workers' workloads would go up (and nor why their salaries would go down. As for prices going up, that's a matter for the company - you could say the same about all wage and salary expenses). The person on maternity leave would be covered for in the same way as anyone else on leave would be covered.
Unless you think there shouldn't be any form of leave for anyone because the profits of the company would go down.

Australian people's money is stolen to pay for someone else's kids, Australia's shame.
Australia creates economic conditions and uses social engineering to make it impossible to be a parent and not work, in order that the government can indoctrinate children early, and prevent them from having a good sense of morality and values, Australias shame.

On the contrary. In countries like USA( where NWO rules!), there is no maternity leave. You have to come back to work in 6 weeks or you are kicked out like a stray dog. Wait, even stray dogs are given asylum. Babies are worthless is the NWO. Totally antihuman.
Interesting I didn't know that. US has 6 weeks maternity leave, and in Canada, it is 1 year paid maternity leave! and also in Canada, if your wife doesn't work, husband can take 4 months maternity leave paid - however, there are certain conditions that have to be met.
If the baby boomers & previous generations can raise 3 or more kids without any hand outs from the government then so can everybody else! Anyway what's wrong with making a sacrifices not going to kill antone.
Why do some people see this as merely a women's issue? I think it is good for the baby and the whole family. Breastfeeding for the first six months is important for the health of the newborn.
Brestfeeding is essential for the baby's mental health. All women should be obligated to spend at least 6 months with their newborns BY LAW. In Europe we have 1 year of paid maternity.
Why am I going to pay more money for women to have children? This is a disgrace.I did't get a cent to have my family !Nor did my mother nor did my grandmother! This will put women back.....no one will be employ them and young women will not be given the same work and career choices as it is not affordable!
Mate, don't be sorry, it's so hard to get the full meaning in such a short space. I must confess i looked at your youtube profile. It's my impression your are a warm and caring person, please don't stop making comments. YOU have something to say, say it. You may offend, but you may also learn, you may gain respect you deserve, and, perhaps some new friends!
So you want my support to tax me to support the life choices of other people. Great idea, I mean my family doesn't really the money that I earn! People like me should be forced to provide for others since we have so much to spare.
I can't understand why my family is worth less than someones else's family! In Australia the $ received is greater than the tax paid unless you earn over $100,000! Two of siblings died from leukemia, why am I forced to fund other peoples choices, why can't I support leukemia research?
I'm sorry... Your family is worth more - it's yours!
Not everyone will use it [paid maternity leave], but there are other programs and things that others pay for and use or don't use, it kind of evens out. Schools, roads, medical, etc.
I still make regular donations to the breast cancer research, and I'm registered in the unrelated bone marrow registry. I hope I can be a match for someone and give them their life back! Do you guys have a registry like that in Australia?
Australia is a cold, selfish thoughtless Country. This is why I am leaving. Norway sounds great.

So do the rest of us taxpayers get a refund if they do not breastfeed? Or if the little bugger grows up to be a crim?

We all earn money, you're nothing special. I'm a work at home mom and I gladly pay those taxes (here in Canada) with a smile on my face.
Here, you have to work a certain amount of hours to qualify for paid leave. The women are helping to pay for their own leave, anyway.
It's simple human nature to want to help people. Do you really have no heart? As a father?
