  • I want this video on my X250 unit.

  • I have to sing this with a friend for NYSSMA this year.......nervous

  • The word "Edelweiss" randomly popped into my head and I didn't remember where the song was from. Good I looked it up, I still love it.

  • Beautiful song

  • beautiful music and i love singing it

  • this song makes me sad because my granmother used to sing this before she died in cancer. We used to watch this movie together and a singer were supposed to sing this on her funeral, though he never showed up.

  • Oh god... I have to sing this for an audition tomorrow...

  • @Slinkydog13 Good luck! Or, I hope you did well!

  • 48 people who hates all the talented people in the past.

  • Why is this song only 2 minutes long? Why not 10 minutes? Why not forever?

  • Beautiful Song <3

  • Agree

  • Love this song! Espicially when the capitain says 'I know you share this love, and i pray you never let it die' reffering to as His country will change. This song speaks for itself and will forever be one of the best songs of this Top Box Office/ Classic of all time !

  • Sound of music

  • Adam West...Adam West...I'll come out when they're all gone.

  • It's as silly as saying Stars and Stripes Forever is the national anthem of the United States, seriously.

  • @CNR4806 But there's no doubt that it is a well-beloved song that has taken on a strong patriotic meaning, just like the Stars and Stripes Forever

  • i was Freidrich in my local communitys production a few years ago...best days of my life.

  • A Supreme Classic...Best musical movie ever made!!!

  • <3 this song :D

  • This reminds me of Natasha Richardson every time because supposedly Vanessa Redgrave sang this to her while she was sick :( so sad.. RIP, Natasha

  • beautiful song. reminds me of my grandfather. will always love you<3

  • Thumbs up if you came here after Hollywood Babble-on.

  • Comment removed

  • this was the first song i ever learned all the words for. my grandpa taught me them. he's been gone for 6 years now, but whenever i hear this i think of him. rip pa

  • Anal vice... Anal vice...

  • @bentomo88 you don;t want to diss this, not only is it a song in one of the best musicals fo all time, but this is also the Austrian National Anthem. it is kind of like dissing the Star Spangled banner

  • @obessedbookwormA2Z Since when did Land der Berge, Land am Strome got taken over by Edelweiss, a piece written exclusively for The Sound of Music?

  • @obessedbookwormA2Z "Edelweiss" is not the national anthem of Austria. The anthem is called "Land der Berge, Land am Strome".

  • @bentomo88 idiot!

  • It's funny. i am from Austria and surely the only one (except of my brother) i know that knows this song/the sound of music!

And I am from Salzburg too!

  • beautiful song

  • @ArchmageGorelam its Edelweiss

  • 素晴らしい音楽です。

    英語の歌詞も発音も素晴らしいので

    日本人の英語教育に使用させて頂きます♫。

  • Every single day of my childhood, my mother sang this song to me before I fell asleep. This was always our special song and this memory is so cherished to me that even typing these words brings tears to my eyes. I love my mother more than anything...<3

  • I've visited austria several times and everytime i go, this song plays in my head

  • my nan loved this song she loved the sound of music to she passed away on sunday and this song was hers and she was born in austria love u omi forever xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • @JackTiger9 No one here wants to listen to your conspiracies of antisemitism. Go back to the Nazi rock you lived under and stay there please

  • I love at the end how the whole audience sings this and the Nazi dudes are like "fuck..."

  • @Gollum120711 Absolutely correct!! F**k the Nazis!!

  • Every summer when I was little, I would go to Cape Cod with a bunch of my cousins who were about my age. We would all sleep together in a bunk house, and before bed, my mom, my aunt, and my uncle would sing this to us before we went to sleep. They actually sounded pretty good.

My uncle died a couple years ago. Now whenever I hear this song, I think of him singing this to me before I went to sleep. :')

  • @zahralioness aww that's so sweet!

  • grazie per questa bella condivisione !!

  • GUMMYBEARS

  • If you watch the travel channel's special on Austria, they didn't know about The Sound of Music til 13 years AFTER its release....most people there still dont know about it. It has a lot to do with the the whole Nazi/German story to it.

  • @GaddafilsAGreatMan lol at your utmost stupidity. its funny cause white people think the same about your shit music. have a nice life xxx

  • @MrMawie89 its true! when i went to austria everyone was clueless about this film...its quite a shame really.

  • @britainfan4lyf

Well they know about it in Salzburg, even if they have never heard of it in the rest of Austria.

It was weird because most English or American tourists were excited about Salzburg because of all the scenes from the Sound of Music - all other nationalities were excited about Mozart or the amazing Baroque buildings. I loved all three (plus the cable car to the Untersberg). Salzburg is a stunning city - always worth a visit for whatever reason.

  • this is the best edelweiss I have ever heard

  • funny. As a Austrian i can say: Nearly nobody in Austria know about this movie/musical

  • Sieg fur Deutschland

  • @WHOTHEDOCTORNOW: thanks very much for the explain :)

  • What does Edelweiss mean? Is this German?

  • @RussX5Z It means 'noble purity' in German. Edelweiss is a small white flower native to European mountain areas. Hope that helps.

  • @RussX5Z

Edelweiss is a plant that grows on the alps in Austria and throughout Germany. It's sort of a symbol of Austria and Germany, ironically this propaganda-movie didn't realize that Edelweiss was largely used as a symbol of the Wehrmacht and German army during ww2. This was also a marching song.

    Just look up "EDELWEIß"

  • @MrOhaiMark I went to look up the song, and the tile is "Es war ein Edelwiss".

I do agree somewhat with what you say, however I don't know how that piece could have influenced the composition of this song,

and how it is a propaganda-movie

    :) can you explain? :)

  • This movie is seen by most as a happy and silly musical. This song, and the nuns slashing the Nazis tires, should tell you something.

  • @cbethfly that nuns are vandals?

  • @cbethfly couldn't disagree more. I'm a huge fan of sound of music and I don't know anybody who would use the adjective "silly" to describe it even "happy" is the wrong word in my opinion. "Fun" and "uplifting" are words that I would use to characterize this movie and I think most people would agree with me. Perhaps happy is just a VERY basic way of expressing this but I think "silly" would be considered a complete misnomer

  • @cbethfly when I was little and I watched this, I always thought "Hmm... they're going on a picnic now?" Not realizing they were fleeing on foot through the mountains O.O

  • @cbethfly They didn't slash the tires. They removed parts of the engine.

  • I sing this song alot!!!! :) haahahhaha My favorite movie!!!! :)

  • fantastic not one token muslim or black. The good old days

  • The last song Rodgers and Hammerstien did together before Oscar Hammerstien passed :(

  • My parents always sang this to me when i was young.

  • I sing myself to sleep with this song. I wish my father had sung it to me.

  • I love listening to this song. It takes me back to my childhood years at my Grandparents' house and playing in their garden. The flower the song is about reminds me of my Grandma's favorite flower and the song also reminds me of all the flowers she used to have in the yard. But my Grandpa passed away 4 years ago and my Grandma just last Christmas Eve and I miss them so much! Listening to this song helps me think about my childhood years with them. It makes me sad but also relaxed too.

  • we just saw thw play at Playhouse in the Park in Mobile Albama and i have to say the guy who plated Von Trapp was good but nothing compared to this guy....but it was a REALLY good play thanks for playing it :D

  • wa, ésta canción tiene una facilidad alucinante de sacarme lágrimas O_o

  • Una canción tan bella no se olvidará nunca, aunque aquí no suena muy bien.,

  • How can 40 people not like this and what the singing of it in the movie stood for?

  • Escaping from the Nazi's wa not easy and it's a fact the Captain was not in symphaty with the Nazi 's. Austria's loss was our gain. They melded into our society and today their children are loyal productive members of our society. It's hard for some soldier's to forgive because of what they went through during the war. I had 4 brothers in during WWII. We hoped the 4 blue stars would not turn to gold. "Father forgive them etc" as it was said from the cross. mikeyzip

  • @mikeyzip I agree with you mikeyzip. My grandpa Samuel came over from Austria before WW1. There were alot of Austrians and Germans who were anti Nazi and 5,000 Germans died for the unsuccessful last attempt on Hitler's pathetic life, 7/20/44

  • It's tough. Knowing what I now know about the period, about Austria, and looking at the words of the song, it always gives me a chill listening to it. It's lovely, beautiful even, but that chilling part won't go away.

  • Que linda canción, me recuerda mi niñez creo quees la única pelicula que esta en mi mente, ovbio que la he visto mil veces y me gusta como la primera vez.

  • I remember the teacher at the music class made as sing this song ^^

    memories

  • but don't you realise, the Austrians were the most fanatical nazis of them all. I know this because I went out with a Berlininer for 3 years. when they invaded Austria, they were welcomed with opened arms. I dare anyone of you out there to correct me on that.

  • @praxylite Maybe some did, but not all. You can't say based on the people that you know about, that EVERY single person in austria wanted the Anschluss.

  • @RainnDropsOnRoses Just look at the Sound of Music. You have Uncle Max who didn't approve, but dealt with it. Will bet you money that plenty of Austrians just realized they couldn't fight it.

  • I love this song very much

    regards from Israel

  • All of Christopher Plummer's singing was dubbed by the Bill Lee in the film "The Sound of Music".

  • CAPTAIN: Edelweiss, Edelweiss Every morning you greet me Small and white clean and bright You look happy to meet me Blossom of snow may you bloom and grow Bloom and grow forever Edelweiss,Edelweiss Bless my homeland forever. CAPTAIN, MARIA, THE CHILDREN AND CHORUS: Small and white clean and bright You look happy to meet me Blossom of snow may you bloom and grow Bloom and grow forever Edelweiss,Edelweiss Bless my homeland forever.
  • Arnold Schwarzenegger.....Bathroom Scene....

  • this song was first known to me through my school concert in 2009, I was a part of the school choir, I sang it with my choir mates on the stage along with some other weird songs, but this is the only of them that I could remember until now, this is the only one that could stay in my heart until now

  • my father used to sing this to me as a boy it's so beatifull

  • 1:26 fredic face

  • 大好きな曲で、この年齢になっても口ずさんでいます。

  • I love this song... My mom sang it to me when I was little.

  • 37 people supported the Anchluss

  • ANALPISS!

  • Bed of lice.

  • can anyone get the acapella of this tune ??? would be much appreciated, thanks.

  • @blsbutcha

    i can

  • Comment removed

  • @blsbutcha y were you asking?

  • 36 people have forgotten there childhood!!

  • Finally found the song i love. Gotta' watch the movie!!!!

  • I started to cry when I heard Julie Andrews

  • I never mentioned anything about past leaders, why would they matter? I'm talking about the current party.

Insulting ONE person does not mean i am insulting an entire race, how are you getting the idea that I am racist? I'm white anyway, so i would be being racist to myself?

  • I got to be honest. I'm not really a fan of musicals. But this is just beautiful.

  • this was the lullabye my grandmother always sang to me:)

  • lovely music :)

  • МОЯ ЛЮБИМАЯ ПЕСТЯ...

  • awe this was my parents wedding song. :)

  • Such beauty in the world and then such ugliness...like the Obama's in the White House.

  • @TheDonnaEl ... Shut up you filthy racist bastard. Bet you're a disgusting republican too eh? Bet you'll be the kind of person who votes for sarah palin if she runs, her with the IQ of a crack addicted whore and you with fewer.

  • @Smile4theCrosshairs Woah! I agree the man was quite cruel in what he said even though I do not like Obama myself I would not diss his whole family. What is wrong with being a Republican, how can you call me disgusting when you never met me? So I bet you think I am a racist just because I am for the GOP and did not want Obama to be president. I mean c'mon 'crack addicted whore' that is quite cruel and you could be called racist yourself.

  • @1kissbee Smile is probably dark skinned , that's why he got so angry . QQ black racist .

  • @Comrade4561 ..actually i'm not dark skinned, do i have to be not white to find racism wrong?

  • @Smile4theCrosshairs lol he didn't even mention anything about Obama being black . And you start bashing him for rasism right away . I think i understand how Obama won the election now . Everyone who doesn't vote for him is (apparently) racist so everyone votes him so they don't seem racist by picking a white guy over a black guy . When in fact there is nothing wrong in that when the white guy deserve it more .

  • @Comrade4561 Not got time to look back to it but if i remember correctly it was something along the lines of ''having the obama family in the white house is wrong.''... Now, what would be the most obvious reason why someone finds fault with the entire obama family? If it was obamas policies then why mention the family? It's obviously something personal about them, and the way he described them insinuated racism.

  • @1kissbee A non-racist republican? Well it certainly seems like they are few and far between, and I find it disgusting that people would vote for a party whose leaders are racist.

How does comparing sarah palins IQ to that of a crack addicted whore racist....? Might offend whores, but not racist..

  • @Smile4theCrosshairs Ha! I certainly don not have to prove I am not racist. I don't really give a hoot whether I come off as it or not. I should bring up that plenty of of Americans leaders were Republican. Like Abraham Lincoln (I wonder what he did?), Theodore Roosevelt (A Man A Plan Panama, anyone?), Ronald Reagan (I think he did something about a wall.). So the leaders are racist. You are too, I can accuse you of being racists towards whites or Alaskans for what you said about Palin.

  • @TheDonnaEl T.T ..... Racist! There's absolutely nothing wrong with having a different skin tone. Honestly, what era do you come from? People haven't been this racist since before Abraham Lincoln diminished the right to own slaves or something. -.-"

  • @SammyCronin Why not try to see his way too instead of bashing him ?

  • @Comrade4561 Agreed, virtual hi-five!

  • I almost cried when the chorus kicked in.

  • this always brings a tear to my eye

  • This song makes me laugh.

My grandmother, who mispronounces EVERYTHING, always refers to this song as:

    "Idol-wise"

  • LOVE this song. Saw the moving at the Dundee Theater in Omaha Nebraska, Seven times! my aunt worked at the theater good times. Goosebumps all the way!

  • Why would anyone care what someone said about this . If ya don't like it OK. go away. Friggin goose bumps. I love it.

  • Imagine they're saying "penis" instaed of "edelweiss".

  • @CottageFtw what a sad little TWIT

  • @WarriorSage2

no reason? just feel like insulting? give a decent reason before calling someone a "sad little TWIT"

  • @DJDizzy113

Funny you say that as edelweiss was actually a famous waffen-ss marching song also known as "Erika". The sound of music butchered it here though...

Don't confuse the Wehrmacht with Nazis, you've watched to much lame propaganda, go die in a hole.

  • @MrOhaiMark ur not doing much better with your manners.

  • @EExecutable

Well sorry but it's hard to grow up in a world where everyone tells you your ancestors were monsters without looking at facts >.>

It's funny what propaganda can make people believe. The allies committed far more atrocities then the axis including a holocaust. Unfortunately Brits never remember the 6-7 million people they starved to death in Bengal or the 1 million they killed in concentration camps during the Boer war.

I hate to rant on such an unrelated video but I can't take it

  • @DJDizzy113 Not cool man..i love this song, but calling someone a nazi is as bad as calling a person a Nigga of Jap.....not cool...

  • Edelweiss, edelweiss, you look happeh to meet me. I love this song, but the pronunciation of "happy" from the Captain just makes me laugh.

  • Comment removed

  • Ich liebe diesen Song, sehr schönes

  • @rfgarcia79

    Ja, ich auch.

  • We are doing this song in our school Concert

  • I dislike this video/song,,,,,, such good song.... sadly short . :(

  • I am in The Sound of Music at my studio and this is my favorite song ever!!!

  • I've become addicted to this song. Its just so pretty.

  • What I'd do to get in this musical as Von trapp.....

  • This was Hammerstein's last song. He died just as the show was opening, this was his last piece. And it has all the beauty of a lifetime.

  • Why would ANYONE click dislike????!!!! SERIOUSLY PEOPLE!! GET SOME CLASS!

  • i love this song (: im so excited that my school's orchestra is gonna travel all the way from california to play this at disney world next week.

  • I was in the Sound of Music at the state theater last summer! I was briggita, shes nine and Im 12.....

  • This the film is set during the 1938 German Anschluss with Austria the family sang the song to insult Germany as it is very patriotic, the flower of Austria being the Edelweiss

  • We used to sing this at Guide camp...it had actions lol

  • small + white, smells like shite edelweiss

  • @PaulEFC86

I would like to know what shite means :\

  • @jimmyxx3 Old English derivative of "Shit."

  • @avidpianist

Sir, edelweiss and shit are not the same thing.

  • @jimmyxx3 I agree. I was just telling you what 'shite' means.

  • @avidpianist

I see, thankyou for your information.

  • @avidpianist Why would you bother watching it then, you have obviously heard it somewhere before so why would you watch it again when your in the "know" that your own systematic hearing conscience is not attracted to this song. That kinda makes you sad to re-watch, even worse COMMENT on a video that you dislike. Or maybe your one of those youtube gangsters who watches videos and causes controversy, tryna make himself look hard and only watches rap or whatever you kids watch these days.

  • @Briggsy102 Lol! I love Edelweiss. I grew up watching Sound of Music and Christopher Plummer's performance inspired me to become a theatre major.

I was simply explaining what the word 'Shite' meant to jimmyxx3.

  • @Briggsy102 Hey, not ALLL kids listen to " todays shity" music ^_^

  • Dit is zo mooi nummer!!

  • I have sing this in our school play

  • awww this is what my dad used to sing to me before I go to sleep =(

  • @rexviper8 Me too!!!! How funny lol Miss the good old days ...

  • @rexviper8 my grandmother sang it :)

  • One of the loveliest songs of all time, despite its simplicity.

  • @Evasively sometimes the simplest songs are the best ones :)

  • My most faverorite film ever!! My grandad used to sing this to me when I was little and he played it ont he piano. Happy lovely memories.

  • this is now my school song

  • Classic Rogers and Hammerstein

  • I love this song! Had it sung at our wedding

  • I wish there was a love button on this thing...lol

  • @midnytemoonowl78 Yeah. This is a beautiful song.

  • BEEEEEAAAAAAUtiful!!!

  • This song makes me so sad in a good way.

Our school did this production and no song means as much to me as this one.

When everyone joins in I get a chill :P

  • 

  • this makes my mom cry
